You did a great job on that old Buffet. The hole that is bothering you could be filled with air-dry clay and then sanded and painted. No one would ever know it was there

Have you ever tried using spackling or compound paste to fill in the missing veneer then sanding it smooth? It works well if you paint the furniture. Not so much with staining.

Painting this piece to be used in your cabins was so wise. Not everyone who stays in your cabins is going to take care of your furniture. It seems it would be easier to maintain a painted piece. It turned out beautifully!

I loved how the buffet came out. I bought some piece w the Veneer coming off and was going to replace, I think I will just paint over! I love where you have the table in your living room, why not keep it for yourself? It’s a nice anchor point in your room and you can still put your tv on top or over the buffet! 😃

Hi Mary, I am a furniture refinisher and I love using hemp oil on dark paint. It enriched the paint colour beautifully and buffs to a lovely velvety sheen. It also cures to a hard finish in 30 days, so it's very good protection. I don't know if it's helpful for this buffet, but maybe for future pieces you want to paint a dark colour. May God continue to bless you and yours.

I've painted a few buffets like that, even glued on almost exact medallion! I have one that was glued on maybe 15 years ago, and it's still holding! I think I just used East 6000 as well. One tip for that chipped up corner would be to use automotive Bondo. It works like a charm for things like that. I've never painted any furniture black, I might have to try soon. I go to color, as yours usually is, as wait! This is a beautiful piece!

@@janicemiller4788 if you check out John’s Furniture Repair here on YT you will be able to see a young woman repair veneer, cane, and anything else a piece of furniture may need, her work is amazing, she just restored a Grandfather’s Clock that was over 200 years old, the clock face restoration was beyond beautiful. The only negative for me watching her channel is there isn’t a new video every single day!
I believe she learned her craft from her Dad, and last video her daughter who is a young teen was helping her, and she said that her daughter could do many tasks in the repair or restoration of furniture. I was wondering if Mary could have fashioned something out of wood putty to fit in that hole and also to fill in some of the veneer, although Trena, at JFR would never have done that, but again her livelihood
depends on her exquisite repairs, while Mary’s doesn’t, and the things Mary works her magic on are not family heirlooms.

Mary, my husband and I were in Holmes County last week. The weather was amazing for July. Thank you so much for your videos on things to do while visiting. We went to all the thrift store and antique malls in the whole area. My husband is such a good sport. We did visit your booth were I purchased your grapefruit and mint candle. I am really enjoying the fragrance. My favorite place was the Blessing Acres Farm. We went there on our way out. The gardens were beautiful and I purchased enough fruit and vegetables that will last through the next week. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you again for your recommendations. I enjoy seeing your transformations. You truly have a gift. 🌺

Late to the party, but had to comment. I had a similar buffet years ago with a nearly identical flaw. One of my vendors told me about Rock Hard Water Putty. It’s a miracle product. I bought the largest canister (it’s still dirt cheap) because I wasn’t sure how much it would take for me to get the mix of powder to water correct. I’ve rebuilt hundreds of corners and other busted off details, filled SO many missing areas of veneer along edges, used it to mold replacement trims, and filled thousands of holes/dents and I still have about a quarter of the canister left.
Sandable, paintable, carveable, and dries quick & so solid you really can’t tell it’s not original after it’s painted as long as your sanding job is good.
