Stevie Ray died in 1990 in a helicopter crash. He was, is, and forever will be the pride and joy of Austin 🇨🇱! I saw Stevie at least 20 times! We used to pay $3.00 to see Stevie live at clubs in Austin. He was a regular at Antones, the world famous blues venue where everyone from Muddy Waters to B B and Albert King played and always let Stevie sit in if he dropped by. Loved and respected by ALL the old blues masters. Absolutely one of the all time greatest guitarists! A true guitar god! RIP SRV! 😥 Thank you for the music you left for us.

I was at his last two shows at Alpine Valley where he died. Eric Clapton had to follow him as the closing act. Clapton came on stage after Stevie finished and proclaimed Stevie the Greatest of All Time. And then Clapton asked the crowd, "How in the hell do I follow that?" He proceeded to play all love ballads because it was all he could do. His show became a couples concert. By then we were so blown away by Stevie we hardly listened to Eric. We just sat there in awe for hours. It was a spiritual experience. I've been to hundreds of shows and that performance still ranks #1. I cried like a baby when I got the news of the crash at work the next day. That damn fog made my drive home a bitch. His helicopter pilot had no business taking off in it.

Chris Duarte is the guy that has filled SRVs shoes, since 1990... and ironically enough Chris's from Austin Texas. He comes from the same generation and Tradition, as SRV but Chris is heavily jazz influenced and it puts him in a relatively obscure place but he's probably the best guitar alive. Hell Eddie Van Halen even said in response to: "what's it like to be the best guitar player alive?" Eddie's response was, "I don't know, ask Chris Duarte." Just figured I'd fill you in.

In 2 days it will be 29 years since his death 😢 My friends were at his last concert at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin. It's a ski resort and after the concert it was very foggy. SRV got on a helicopter to take him to the airport in Chicago but it crashed into a ski hill, just after midnight, killing him and 4 other people. The pilot Jeff Brown, agent Bobby Brooks, bodyguard Nigel Browne, and tour manager Colin Smythe were also killed. The concert was SRV and his band Double Trouble featuring Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan. What a horrific tragedy and loss to the music world and families! Even though there are other great guitar players, he was one of a kind!

If you want to see the best example of man and guitar intertwined, watch “third stone from the sun” at live at the el mocambo. It’s insane. SRV is definitely my favorite guitarist of all time. He died in a helicopter crash on, I believe it was, August 27th 1990 at the age of 35 if I’m not mistaken. Thanks for the great reaction.

If you’ve heard Jimi Hendrix then you want to listen to you want to see Stevie Ray Vaughan perform “Voodoo Chile” and Little Wing” Personally I believe it’s even better than Hendrick’s he takes Hendrix songs to a whole other level! If you want to listen to some more slower real bluesy stuff check out SRV with Johnny Copeland performing “Tin Pan Alley” and “life without you” a song written for a friend who died! He did not know how to read music he learned strictly by ear, SRV Passed away August 1990 at the age of 35 in a helicopter crash after leaving a concerts! RIP SRV 💔

August 27, 1990 was a very sad day for me and the world. I was headed to the Jersey shore (Wildwood N.J.) right after I heard the news. My first stop when I got there was a custom airbrush T-shirt shop where I had a shirt made of my own design in honor of my hero. I still have that shirt. I felt his music, and the fact that we shared a birthday 10 years apart resonated with me. He was born October 3, 1954 and I was born in '64! I felt like I knew him! I truly miss him.
