    Mr Miller,
    As a complete novice, I was able to set up my home network in a few hours, following your incredibly informative and easy to follow set up tutorial video. THANK YOU !!!
    My Network:
    - UDM-SE
    - Unifi Network Pro 48 PoE switch
    - (5) U6 -Long Rang WiFi access points
    - Cameras and door bell to follow
    I was able to set up a super fast, secure access point WiFi network through my home and yard. I am extra grateful for the concise explanation you provided on creating additional networks, rules & permissions, and security measures. None of which is explained in simple layman's terms at Ubiquity or anywhere else for that matter.
    I hope you continue to do additional videos on best practices/ maintenance/ advanced user tips and tricks for us novices, especially as firmware updates and features evolve.
    Again, thank you.

    Dude I absolutely love your videos! They are so informative and easy to follow and understand. Good to have a fellow geek such as yourself make and provide these videos, to not only display the latest network technology, but to also consider practical network and security configurations to implement. I will be upgrading our Wi-Fi network at church and have learned a lot regarding Unifi/Ubiquity from your videos. Kudos and thanks!

    Don’t know how a computer game refers to cables, but at least this guy explains it’s actually Power Over Ethernet

    Hi great video!! I've followed your guide but I'm struggling with main network - iot network communication! This is what I did:
    1) I've enabled Multicas DNS on both main network and IoT network
    2) I've created the two exact firewall rules discussed in your videos:
    - RULE 1: drop LAN in (all) -> from main network -> to iot network
    - RULE 2: drop LAN in (all) -> from iot network > to mail network.
    As soon as I disable those two rules, everything works; as soon as I turn on those two rules I can't reach my printers and chromecasts.
    I tried the following configuration, but I'm a noob, so I don't know if it's ok or not:
    - RULE 0: new rule: allow established and related: accept LAN in (all) -> match state established + match state related
    - RULE 1: eliminated (the rule was: drop LAN in (all) -> from main network -> to iot network)
    - RULE 2: same as before: drop LAN in (all) -> from iot network > to mail network
    Please, somebody can help me? Is my configuration correct? Thank you very much!
    My configuration:
    - dream router as controller;
    - three old UAP-LR

      UDM SE and Pro should not be used in production environment where clients are consistently using Microsoft Teams and Zoom. There are tons of problems, UDMs cannot handle, consistent, voice packets. Microsoft teams and zoom sessions will drop. Adjusting smart queues on 300M+ is recommended to troubleshoot but worthless.

    Thank you for the update UniFi. Something you can add to this is using special characters or spaces in your Wi-Fi name/SSID or password can create issues with certain devices for some reason. I guess older technology or what not. Hopefully that saves somebody to extra stress.

    Hey Jack - I love your videos. They are always very informative. I have a couple of questions. I noticed you didn't create an SSID for the Camera's. Are you just using the IoT SSID for the Camera network? You also showed us how to create 5 rules. You have 7 showing on the screen? Block lan from cameras and Block IoT from cameras was missing. I assume it's pretty much simlar to how we created the other rules? Love your stuff! Appreicate yah!

      Only one of the cameras was WIFI-only. He was happy to have this on the LAN SSID, so no dedicated Camera SSID required.

    Do you have an idea why my 3 AC PRO can't handle 20+++ users when they're doing a Google Meet video conference simultaneously?
    For each Access Point, I've done
    1. Different channels each of them (either the 2.4 GHz one, or the 5 GHz one).
    2. VT40 for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with each of them set to Medium Power Limit
    But still can't handle that moment sometimes.

    Recently watched a video from Shane Whatley where he made POE cameras HomeKit enabled. If you set up a VLAN for your exterior cameras so they don’t see the rest of the network, would it still be possible to use the workaround so they are viewable in HomeKit and stored via HomeKit SecureVideo?

    Wait, so the Dream Machine Pro SE can act as your home wifi router? I don't need to purchase a separate one?
    My plan was to set up my ISP modem, run the rj45 to a dual-band 3000 sq ft router, and then from that, feed the dream machine another rj45.
    But the individual router can be skipped altogether? Do I just need the UDM Pro SE & an access point to set up 3000 sq ft of wifi range?

    NEVER EVER EVER assume a wireless connection is more secure than a hardline. Wireless signals can be collected and decrypted without even being on your property. It takes a physical intrusion to intercept a hardline (Ethernet) connection. Please do not follow his advice on allowing the wifi camera to access the regular LAN network. It should definitely be on a separate VLAN. If you're really paranoid, cameras should have their own dedicated network connecting only to the router with a VLAN configuration on place at that level.

    • @MillerTechnicalServices
      @MillerTechnicalServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do realize the Wi-Fi connection for the dedicated camera vlan is susceptible to the same thing you just described right?

    • @austinrausch9836
      @austinrausch9836 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MillerTechnicalServices yes, which is why I recommended a completely dedicated network. There is no 100% on network security. There will always be a vulnerability. Limiting the number of vulnerabilities is the name of the game. Posting a video depicting a camera having access to all devices on a network, in my mind is a bit reckless. The key is compartmentalization at the highest possible level. While that may not be the most efficient in terms of speed, it is the most secure, albeit not 100%. Nothing is 100%.

    The Dream Machine is great for a single home use site, but what if we don't need all the functions of the Dream Machine. At the price point, it is expensive if you don't need all the features. What is the replacement for the USG or USG-Pro?
    That is what a lot of home users really want. A USW-Lite PoE in either 8port or 16port, a gateway and a couple of access points.
    Unfortunately that is where Ubiquiti falls over for the home user. The Dream Machine is way over kill for most home networks, where a gateway, lite duty PoE switch and a couple of access points is all that is needed. The Dream Machine, as it cannot be controlled via a cloud based controller, is not really good for Enterprise.
    Add to this that the Unifi Software is a mess of missing features and not knowing what direction it is going, I am failing to see where the Unifi line up fits in right now. The software is barely worthy of being called Beta, the feature set is poor for the price point. It's not suitable for Enterprise and it is too complex for most home users. There are just better options at the price point.
    Edit 25 Aug 2022: 7.9.2 is an improvement and a lot of newer features are worth looking at, but you will still find yourself switching between legacy and new interface to find all the settings.

    Does that Plex port firewall rule allow IoT devices to reach the Plex port of any address on the main vlan? Can you specify the Plex server address in the firewall rule?

    • @MillerTechnicalServices
      @MillerTechnicalServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes to both questions. I have 3 Plex servers at my house, only one of which is accessible via the WAN side. That’s why I just opened the port between networks.

    This is really everything one needs to set up his network. Love it, couldn't be better. Thanks man! Oh, yeah, what's missing is the connection from the ISP-modem in bridge mode to the Dream machine.

    Also, do you need to allow Ports 8443 and 8080 for the camera to connect to the cloud key controller? The Block Cameras from LAN won’t let my cameras connect with it enabled.

    • @MillerTechnicalServices
      @MillerTechnicalServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won’t be able to view them unless you’re on the security network. You can go ahead and forward those ports and see if it works.

    • @ArcticWolf343
      @ArcticWolf343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MillerTechnicalServices Allowing the ports didn't work. I'm logged in through my cloud key 2+, and I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the security network do you mean the 192.168.20.x?

    • @ArcticWolf343
      @ArcticWolf343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got it to work by allowing the static IP address that I gave the cloud key access to the camera network.

    Not seeing the option to select "lan" during the "block lan from iot" and "block iot from lan". It is only listing my VLANs I created, not a general "LAN" option...

    Good morning friend, excellent video. I need to ask you if you can explain or recommend a video on how a category and a restriction application can be added to a DPI Restrictions group (outside of those that already exist there). I want to be able to add new apps to web locks, but I don't know how to add them to the DPI Restrictionsn group that I have created in the UDP PRO. I would appreciate it if you could guide me or tell me what I can read or review, thanks.

    Great Video! Is it correct, that the different networks can not be defined with the Cloud Key Gen2 Plus? Only with the dream machine? Thanks

    • @MillerTechnicalServices
      @MillerTechnicalServices  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, this is not correct. You need a gateway to pair with the cloud key. The cloud key runs the controller applications. The devices are being controlled by it. No data passes through it. If you want a full UniFi system without it being a UDM (I would never recommend UDM for a business), pick uo a Cloud Key Gen 2 + and the Gateway Lite.

    Question, if a opening a hotel, let say is going to have 10 rooms, and each room is going to have its own network.
    Do I have to put a u6 for each room?
    Also for instance the hotel has 3 floors and 2 internet services, so I will need to 2 UDM pro?

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I've seen in hotels, each room doesn't have its own AP. The APs are usually placed in hallways and meeting/conference rooms/lobbies, etc. You will need to have a "heat map" done of your hotel to see where the wifi signal reaches from AP. You then use this this data to place your APs strategiaclly so that your hotel has good coverage. In other words, if you only have 1 AP for a long hallway, your guests at the far end of the hallway may not get good signal. If you place your APs too close to each other, they can cause interference. You also need to be mindful of the construction of the hotel. Thick walls will cause signal issues.
