Just wanted to leave a comment to say a massive thankyou for the step-by-step basic instructions! Other than one or two very minor UI changes that were pretty easy to work through this was a godsend for me, as a complete newcomer to this kind of thing! Thanks!
The ease with which a basic VLAN can be configured is impressive. I'm planning a network for my new house, and I'm giving serious consideration to UniFi - basically because of the ease with which it integrates as well as the quality of say, the cameras. More tutorial videos please!!
Awesome tutorial man! Please definitely make a tutorial on how to properly set up an IoT & Guest Network! Would be super helpful! If you can explain how to set them up so that people on the guest network can still let's say Chrome cast to like a TV and things like washer and dryers can still send info to a phone on the main network that would dope!
Videos on the settings for a Synology to play nice with the firewall settings between the two would be great. Since you can do VPN on NAS and/or UDM, Port forwarding for some items like quickconnect and understanding how to set these up properly for remote connection and interplay would help a lot. Also thanks for putting out good quality content, your videos are easy to follow and help me wrap my head around what's going on in each area vs others I have tried watching.
Video tips: The ability to record surveillance footage or snap photos and save on the Synology. With the above, have an event for it when the RING alarm triggers. Or When motion is detected at specific times
Man I’m glad I came across your vid, I’ve been tying to setup point to point for remote location access, had the hardware but couldn’t do anything with it, I’m waiting on the same gear you just went over, this is the most intuitive easily explained information any novice can wish for, il be subscribing for more tips n tricks, well done hi from Downunder 🇦🇺🤙
FYI, your screen screenshot of the switch was of the non-POE version which is cheaper than the one you are using. That might cause some confusion for people.
Make a video with the Dream Machine and a non Unifi switch. Show how it looks in the diagram with endpoints connected to the switch. Additionally walk through setting up a vlan using the non Unifi switch. Thanks!
@@Ex_impius Is same but not. Only same is terms. In unifi is like next, nect, finish. In mikrotik for exemple is pain in ass. So if configure vlan on unifi it doosent means you are able to cofig vlan on other vendors
Fantastic video. Question: Is placing the honeypot outside of the DHCP range needed? If the UniFi device creates a DHCP reservation then it is not necessary.
Have you made a video comparable for Starlink gen2 with the ethernet adapter and a New UDM-SE setup? I have seen two ways with star link router still being used to manage the direction and heat of the starlink dish. And others remove the router. Do you have contact for phone consult?
In most cases, 0-255. 10.0.0.0/24 and 10.255.255.0/24 are valid IP subnets, but some manufacturers won't allow it. Of course, if you are using a different subnet mask, the valid digits may change.
Would love for you to go over all of the VPN options and when you would use which for different scenarios along with why you would want to use one over the other.
I have a question, a little off topic... I broke my phone which was used for MFA with my Unifi Owner Admin acct. I did not have a backup or secondary method to login (no email or sms). I had to create a new admin acct, however no longer Owner Admin. Can you think of anyway I can hack this system to allow me to turn off MFA or somehow get around the MFA so I can access my super user acct? Instead of resetting/formatting the entire system... Fyi thats what unifi support says.

Setting up the vlans are the same. Just use the vlan tags on the ports.

Great video . What is your throughput speed thru the wifi access point. Does it give you full 940 mbps or atleast 90% of it ? Or is it 50 %
This video is so good

I was mostly adding out the 10.0.0.0 subnet, because it’s a common default

Thanks Will, great tutorial. Hope you don’t mind me asking the brand of your cool keyboard holder? Thanks.
Grovemade! (disclaimer, they sent me a few desk accessories for free)

Is there also a tutorial for ipv6, since that is more the future as I’ve understood.

Thanks!
The device from the Unifi Store for 279 is the standard 16 port. The POE version is 379. I was confused for a minute there.
Hey, man!
Any chance you're working on a review of Asustor's full NVME desktop NAS? Would love to hear your thoughts on it and NVME NASs in general.

You will have to reformat the system like Unifi Support recommends. On the next go around back up your 2FA keys

Wireguard is not secure in the sense that the credentials and the config can be copied and taken from windows and mac clients very easily
Why does the AP look photoshopped in??
There are diff sizes I believe
