From what I gathered of the story: "Father" lures people to his home where he performs experiments on them. You're the most recent test subject. He picks people based on their curiosity, which is why you were able to safely leave before venturing deeper into the house. The reason they kept knocking you out and dragging you to various rooms was because they wanted you to keep exploring to see if you had the fortitude to make it to the end or would give up. By reaching the end, you were deemed a worthy test subject and finally contained. The notes suggest that those test subjects who are "converted" (for lack of a better term) become one of the children. It's not certain if "adding your knowledge" means the children are part of a hivemind or if the test subjects are singled out for unique skillsets that Father intends to use to build some form of army. It's also possible he's using various skillsets in an effort to create a single ultimate creature, although there wasn't much evidence to suggest this. Not a terrible indie horror, but I do feel a little more context was needed. It wasn't very clear if "Security Guard Bob" was knowingly helping to initiate the experiment by leading you to the goal or if he was one of the children who thought he was actually helping you to escape while, in reality, he was just a pawn to get you to seek out the goal of the test. I feel as though a bit more of an ending scene with Father telling you your fate or a few other plot clues would've made this a lot better. The constant knocking out was a bit annoying, but perhaps would have been a bit less so if some clearer explanation was given in-game for why you were never restrained.
Wasn’t one of the notes signed “Father Bob”? I just assumed that Mr security guard never existed at all, and it was just the father using a fake identity to lure you deeper while giving you hope.
@@britishraptor7703This is what I thought, too. Why would a place like that have a security guard, especially one who helps out prisoners? Turns out it doesn't - it was just Father all along.
The absolute best thing about this game was the fact that you could get a good ending by simply dropping off the pizza and leaving. I always enjoy seeing that, and appreciate when games either give you that option or give a legitimately good reason why you can't (The Mortuary Assistant). Otherwise, this was basically "We Have Evil Resident 7 At Home". An OK setup that just went downhill the further you get into it.
Some of these houses in the games CJU plays, like the one in this game, I want to see the blueprint of just because of how large and never ending they are.
I think the first ending and the monster designs (I thought they were genuinely scary) saved this from "Terrible" territory. The story has potential but the game mechanics really hold it back as a whole.
That silence followed by that 'huh..' is exactly how we also felt. I always wonder what goes through indie horror devs' heads when writing a coherent, cohesive story for their horror game. There's so many cool ways to do a 'delivery gone wrong'.
Unfortunately, that seems like the case for many an indie horror game these days. It's all the same template. Chris does make them more interesting to watch than play, that's for sure.
I watched someone else play this yesterday. Nothing like watching you play, I lost interest. You make any game much more entertaining with your humor and your game play overall. Me and my husband look forward to watching you every night! 😊
Remastered Granny looks great. But seriously, I'd agree that the game has good elements but needs polish. And really shows how easily we could solve our transportation issues with concussion-based fast travel.
I liked it. The graphics, the sounds, the monsters, the story, the atmosphere, the concept. There are some inaccuracies but yours (this time) were more. 😜
This felt like someone saw one of these "survive the house as you gather keys and clues" games and thought "I can do that" and really only put effort into the visuals
That wasn't really your best day, not only you get caught so many times but the protagonist claims he's more observant than you are. Buf for the truth, it had to be some bloody good pizza that one could really kill for.
11:01 lol what doesn’t make sense about is getting jumped in the same room we got jumped earlier and the same room we saw him in on the cameras 😂 pretty consistent really
Always nice when the game lets your character leave cause lets be honest there are many times when you scream at the dumb decisions that people make in horror movies it is nice that the game lets you get the heck out of dodge
i was invited inside once when i used to deliver pizzas. it was the last shift of the night and i was ahead of schedule. i wound up hanging out with 2 random people for 20 minutes lol
There are some pizza places that actually have a policy that delivery drivers are not to enter private residences, for the safety of both the resident and the driver. It's extremely rare that there would be a reason for a stranger to enter another stranger's house in that kind of scenario. It's just one of those horror tropes that doesn't really happen in real life. Kind of like how people in horror movies do the exact opposite of what a person would do IRL in a spooky situation as everyone screams at the screen, "don't go in there!"
You know, I can kind of see what this game was going for, and I think it could have been a bit interesting. Certainly more than a few of the jumpscares *worked*, lmao, we can't say they didn't... but I think the game relied a little too heavily on them and, as you said, it's both too harsh in gameplay sometimes while also not really having any consequences. I think if the dev polishes up their skills a bit more, this could work out to something.
Honestly… I liked it, I mean, I like the idea of a horror game that doesn’t penalize you effectively😂 but you still have all the “characters“ lurking around ready to fuck you up😂✌️
Lmao it's funny every time you pretend to end the video at the leave ending no matter how many times 😂 also you just saying "right" when that kid was stuck in the door and you closed it and he just phased through 😂😂😂 and then the best face of confusion at the end looking to us like we know wtf is going on ahahaha hilarious video. You're the best.
i heard this joke that was pretty funny. then i heard it dozens more times and i thought it was just as funny. that is what being able to leave in a game at the start is..
Hi Chris. Just here to say I love your videos. I've been a fan for several years now and I watch ALL your videos (except for if it's a game I really want to play first).
I think maybe u have to be caught to "wake up" in different places, so even tho u normally never get caught so many times, i think it IS necesary in this game
Even if this pizza delivery guy managed to escape, he's been so repeatedly knocked unconscious he'd probably die of a brain hemorrhage within a few days
What gets me is that Chris never put two and two together, the Security guard who left the note his name was Bob and "The Father's" Name was Bob as well, that means to me, that they were the same person
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Way too much fun! It's gotten to the point where I'm checking around every corner in my own home! Screeeeam, thwack! 🤣🤣 I know this won't end well, but in the meantime... And I can't believe I jump *every. damn. time*.
Damn those very effective jump scares!! 😂 I thought the games looked ok, then again i dont play horror games. A bit to much trail and error indeed, but thankfully you dont lose any progress.. The ending? what?
Tip to the protagonist: If, when ordering pizza, a customer says, "don't knock, just come on in," tell them to *sod off!* Weird, disjointed, nonsensical game. So, let's just update that title to "Terrible Indie Horror Game," shall we? 😆
I have a feeling that there might be an ending where u just escape. Either by not bothering with the experiment 28 body or maybe getting hit and caught beyond a certain number of times changes your ending. I also noticed that when you go to the attic the tinge of the lighting changes and when you come down the doors are gone. It might be that one of the kids has an ability to make you hallucinate and then she gets you after that. Seems like there's more to explore in this to get more of the story, if there is one.
I played this recently, some of the sound effects were either startling or confusing 😂 I thought the game was alright though, not too bad. I also wasn't sure if it was supposed to be kinda survival horror or stealth, as some parts there was nowhere to hide or get away properly as these entities just randomly appeared 😂
I think for me what I did not like was the basement, ending, and invntory not vanishing to pick items back up when you wake up. "Half terrible indie horror game"
this was a slightly terrible indie horror game, kinda enjoyed but i don't know how to feel about the goofy looking enemies, like the way they were coming at you. 😂 pretty fine so i'll rate it as 7/10. 👻
Well, I am in the mood for something short today. Certainly a janky game, this one. All you do is hunt for keys, monsters just randomly kill you, feels like another of them poor P.T. clones. Honestly, CJU, amazed that you did not call this one a terrible indie horror game. The best part was seriously that you can just leave for once, which might have influenced your opinion a great deal. But enough jesting around - I suppose the few puzzles and somewhat spooky atmosphere are enough to elevate Night Grove above the usual rubbish a little, but we have definitely seen better. I do have a soft spot for horror games which feature roaming enemies, always creates a bit of dread, regardless of quality. But seriously, not a winner in this case.
I seen someone else play this, and thought: this makes no sense, CJU needs to play this so i can understand what the heck is going on.... and ya, still makes no sense...although i do understand a heckuv alot more that u did! Lol
Hey CJU I was wondering if you had played the game Fractured Minds. Kind of an observation type game. I saw that someone else had, but I would rather see you play it.
boy, this game was... kinda doodoo. also, Chris, any plans to play the new Alone in the Dark? i was excited back when you played the demo. i recently finished the game myself, and i'd love to see you go through it, too. :^)
It wouldve been hilarious if you endded the video right then. Nice you get that rare chance to be a smart protagonist. I can see very mixed feelings here.
Not exactly terrible but lacking the proper set up and context. A fine line between genuine tension and the tedious. Horror has to have elements that are relatable to be effective, set up the protagonist, some sort of backstory. Random NPC on pizza delivery turned to key hunting and mystery boxes doesn't do anything for me.

Lets be real here, if the game didn't allow you to leave it be easy for Chris to mark this as Terrible Indie Horror game.
Cool story.
Unfortunately, that seems like the case for many an indie horror game these days. It's all the same template. Chris does make them more interesting to watch than play, that's for sure.

Very entertaining. Thank you for playing, CJU!

When you want a pizza so bad, you're willing to get someone trapped and possibly killed.
I love this realistic "get the heck out" decision in a games best friend!

Do delivery drivers actually go into peoples houses? I've seen it in games and movies but never in real life 🤔

Same house again and again 😂
But what if I don't want to visit a 'very strange location?'
You wanna get paid for delivering? You’re gonna go to the strange place and you’re gonna like ut
Honestly… I liked it, I mean, I like the idea of a horror game that doesn’t penalize you effectively😂 but you still have all the “characters“ lurking around ready to fuck you up😂✌️

lol that key was no where near the body

Top horror content as always. Keep it up CJ!

The dieing in thsi game reminds me of Amnesia A Machine for Pigs. There is literally no consequence of dieing.
