I really disagree with your take even though you come from a good place. Giving attention to this disease is good, and learning about it by having someone who has it on your show is good too. The more exposure it gets, the more aware people become of it. Bringing awareness to it means more understanding and support for people who have it. Educating people about how tragic it is will make people more empathetic and understanding, rather than seeing them as just a crazy person who's scary, like some people do.

@@andysimpsonport There's a thing called DIGNITY. Look that word up. He didn't care about her. He only cared about his ratings. It was a ruthless move. Let me interview you while you're sitting on a toilet, because that would show you in SUCH a positive light. She fell off the map and these ruthless people found her in a retirement community and put a camera on her. You'd probably go interview someone after they had a stroke and they could barely speak, as opposed to when they were healthy, right? Don't be simple. Go read some books and get your wisdom up.

_“He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, though he ceased renewing his license to practice psychology in 2006. McGraw graduated in 1975 from Midwestern State University with a B.A. in psychology. He went on to earn an M.A. in experimental psychology in 1976, and a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology in 1979 at the University of North Texas... After obtaining his doctorate, McGraw rejoined his father in Wichita Falls, Texas, where the elder McGraw had established his private psychology practice.”_

A lot of people go to Hollywood not because they have a passion for the craft of acting, but because they desperately seek out that attention and validation from the public because they already have issues. A lot of kids leave Hollywood fcked up because they had horrible parents who used them as cash cows with no regard for how it was affecting them mentally. "Hollywood" is used as if it's a single entity responsible for other peoples' bad choices.

All these comments just prove the lies and hypocrisy of people. You advocate for her because she was a movie star. But the average woman and man who you can find at your local park wondering around homeless is written off as a nuisance. Dr. Phil's decision to sit down with Shelley Duvall, who was clearly struggling with her mental health, was like watching a train wreck in slow motion-except instead of rushing to help, Dr. Phil seemed more interested in selling tickets. It was as if he thought, "Why provide support and treatment when you can broadcast someone's deepest struggles to millions of viewers for prime-time entertainment?"
Shelley Duvall, the beloved actress known for her roles in The Shining and Popeye, walked onto the stage, and it quickly became clear that what she needed wasn't a TV therapist but a team of professionals who don't have to worry about commercial breaks. But Dr. Phil, ever the opportunist, seemed to think this was the perfect moment to ask probing questions, like a paparazzi at a car crash, snapping away without a care for the person in the wreckage.
The episode was so cringeworthy that it could've been a horror movie in itself-Dr. Phil as the villain, exploiting Miss Duvall's vulnerable state for a ratings boost. It was less "helping hand" and more "How can we make this a two-parter?" Honestly, if you looked up "exploitative" in the dictionary, you'd probably find a picture of Dr. Phil with a big grin, holding a remote control.
In a world where we have to shame people for doing the right thing, Dr. Phil decided to give us a masterclass on what not to do. Mental health struggles are not a spectacle; they're a call for empathy, care, and-let's be real-keeping Dr. Phil as far away as possible. Shame on him for turning a cry for help into just another TV show segment.

Together they took a step in the right direction to remove the stigma of mental illness. she sounds like she knows what she's talking about, she's just not quite using the right words to express what she wants to say. yup, she has good reason to act like that. I stayed ONE night in Hollywood, they flew my spouse and I to Paramount to be on a Jerry Springer type show and it was all paid for, the flights, hotel, and per diem for food. We ended up filming on the same stage as Phil’s show. I haven’t been the same since, nothing happened at all, but that’s the issue. I don’t remember it all, it’s not like I blacked out, more like everything after landing at LAX is… not in my memory. I can’t describe what a single thing looks like after entering the hallway to the dressing rooms.
Regardless, I won’t be returning, I’ll say that. The vibe is not cool in LA, it feels like a different planet over there 😅🤣

About how a hornet flew up into her spinal cord and is feeding on her cartilage, about how Robin Williams is alive, but a shapeshifter, about how Father Goose and the Sheriff of Nottingham are after her because they want to take her place because her name is Shelley?
You think she’s telling the truth? Or you believe all that??
Dude, she’s mentally ill. I have no doubt _she_ believes it’s true, but it doesn’t mean it is. I’m not defending Dr. Phil, but 99% of what she was talking about made absolutely no sense.
