In 1881, Milton Hershey returned to his hometown after two failed attempts to open a successful candy store. Left with no money, Hershey approached his uncles for another loan to start up new business, but instead was turned down, insulted and kicked out of the house. At a time when chocolate was seen as a luxury for the rich, Hershey Milton would leave the house to create the largest chocolate manufacturer in the world, and in doing so, making it affordable for the masses.

Every mom puts a lot of faith, resources and hope on her male heir because it is an investment for her.
      .
The expectations set in as reward expectations is that in her late years the male heir takes care of her.
      .
      It's simple..... Invest and Reap.
      No hard science.
      .
No mother in the world would want a son who does not obey her or does not listen to her.
      .
      Calculative women's world.

A mother will give her life for her child and will continue to believe in him No Matter What....
      It's called "Unconditional Love"
Without a child of his own and his other family members having turned their back on him, I imagine his wife and mother were his whole world 😪 💔

FYI- While on a business trip with his wife in Europe Mr. Hershey and his wife had an opportunity to take the first cruise back to America and home. Even though they already had the tickets to go Mr. Hershey decided to stay to see new chocolate processing machinery. The name of that cruise ship-HMS Titanic. And the rest is history.

@@BigCompanyYT I worked for Hershey Chocolate from 1976-2008. At the original plant. It was governmental interference that shut the plant down. Meaning price controls on sugar. While sugar was 13 cents on the US market. The world market was 3 cents. Everytime we increased our efficiency they lost more and more money. The plant put out More per employee hour in efficiency than Any other place. We buried ourselves with the help of government. Another sad but true. Mexico now has 2 plants. Canada has none. It’s a token plant now in Hershey. Hersheys Will and the Trust have control. They’ve shut down many plants in the USA. Big Sugar killed the industry. The Big Wigs talked about that a lot. Governmentally controlling the price of sugar. Our key ingredient.

Excellent research and factual information. I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in Lancaster County. And old enough to remember visiting Hershey Park, touring the actual factory, the Hershey Kisses Street lights the smell of chocolate in the air, and learning about the history of the Milton Hershey. The Southeastern corner of the state is the Mecca of snacking treats. So many successful food companies in that rather small area. My folks were from Hanover PA. Hanover Pretzels, Utz Chips, Hanover Foods (Vegetables and Fruits). The folks often talked about how the companies worked together during WWII to ensure the troops were fed and the respective companies prospered. I am so proud to be a part of that History. I will always be a Hershey Chocolate gal.

Mr Hershey was an avid art collector, brought lots of fantastic artworks from all over Europe, I bought one of his collections at an auction years ago ! It’s a carving of Henry VIII, in fact it has “HEINRICH VIII” engraved at the bottom ! It’s workmanship, precision and detail is beyond any human capabilities IMO.
I look at it a dozen times daily and still can’t find even a microscopic flaw to it and that’s using a 10 X loupe magnification ! The man was highly selective when buying objects of art, he understood and enjoyed the beauty of art’s beauty. What a man

He opened his chocolate factory in Cuba, and named the town, Hershey. He also grew sugar cane, near the factory. This is what saved his business, while other chocolate businesses were struggling, because sugar was very expensive at the time..
In addition, he also financed the construction of craftsman style homes, schools, and churches for his employees, in Cuba. My maternal grandmother worked for Hershey as a clothes cleaning service. Also, my mother's brother-in-law, was a member of the baseball team financed by Hershey. This kind of chocolate is my mom's favorite. Milton Hershey had many struggles, but he had resilience, was adamant, and believed that his dream, would come true, which did. 🥰

We went there yearly, which I eventually dreaded, as my friends went to bigger & better places, although, I do think 🤔 at least once or twice is a must to smell the chocolate 🍫 entering & leaving the park. We also had field trips here. I would always tell my kids that I would send them to Milton Military school, if they didn’t listen, but I really never knew the backstory. Quite interesting finding out this late in life.

He didn't get anything from his father, in fact, his father is kinda like leech. Everytime Milton would get a job and save some money his father would come back and ask for money to start some business scheme. Of course the business would fail and Milton would look for another job. This happened many times. His maternal uncles, who are farmers, urge him to give up father and work for them as farmer.
Milton wanted to be independent and start his own candy business, so he would ask for a loan from his uncles. His uncles think he's also unlucky like Father. Good thing his mother persevered and and Milton was given a chance.

Milton wasn’t just handed the money and that was that. He learned how to make candy from other companies he worked for when he was younger. His father didn’t help him with money, and at one point his uncles refused to give him another loan. Milton worked hard to make his company successful. Even small businesses today get loans from banks.

In 1979, I relocated from Philadelphia, PA to Hershey, PA. Big city to small town with the cultural shock that accompanied the relocation (I moved in December and that didn't help in the changes in my life). It was the spring of 1980, when I discovered many on the scenic attractions of the town of Hershey, including Founder's Hall. In the rotunda is a statue of Mr. Hershey standing next to a young boy. Beneath them on the base was written, "Milton S. Hershey... His deeds are his monument, his life is our inspiration"
Though I only spent a few years living in the Hershey area, I have continued to regard Hershey, PA as my unofficial home (currently reside in Florida) and Mr. Hershey to be my inspiration in life. My father passed away when I was 11 years old and I've been blessed to have had several people enter my life to guide me along the journey and indirectly, Mr. Hershey's life and deeds were a part of that blessing.
Hershey, PA was and continues to be a special place...worthy of a visit by all.

I used to live in Hershey PA! It was honestly the best place to grow up. I went to Hershey High School. Alot of my friends were what they call parents at Milton Hershey boarding school. It is a place like this I dream of for my own kids to grow up with. It was devastating to the area and economy when the Hershey factory left and went to Mexico. I left around that time myself.

This is a story of accomplishment, but it is also a very sad story. How his little sister died and it was only him and his mother left. His father does not count as he was never a father or a husband. He was a scammer who was always looking for an easy way to become rich. Then for Hershey to not be able to have children of his own is even more heartbreaking. His only family was his mother and his wife then they passed away. Even though he had his 😮uncles and his Aunt who supported him. It doesn’t compare to having siblings and your own children. He worked so hard to become successful but had no one to leave his fortune to. Goes to show, No one knows, Who they work for. I’m really glad he was able to achieve the success he wanted. He truly deserved it. He was a kind, caring and hardworking.

A town near us is Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada, once the "Hershey Chocolate Capital of Canada", until it shut down in 2008 after 46 years of operation! Now, 15 years later, they have bought their original building back from Tweed / Canopy Growth Corp., and appear to be coming back in some form - which is good news indeed! Thank you for this very informative video that taught me about the history of Mr. Hershey!

In the heartland's embrace, where fields unfurl,
A tale unfolds of a farmer boy, a sweet swirl.
Milton Hershey, a dreamer so keen,
In the rolling acres, where dreams convene.
A lad with a vision, in the Lancaster land,
Tilling the soil with an imaginative hand.
From dairy to sweets, a journey begun,
A farmer boy's tale, under the golden sun.
Through chocolate fields and sugary dreams,
    Milton Hershey's ambition gleams.
In the confectioner's dance, a symphony sweet,
A farmer boy's story, in every treat.
Cows and cocoa, a fusion so rare,
In Hershey's haven, where dreams compare.
From rural roots to chocolate's delight,
A farmer boy's journey, taking flight.
In the town of chocolate, a legacy spun,
The Hershey's kiss, under the afternoon sun.
A farmer's vision, in the sweetest employ,
Milton Hershey, the boy who brought joy.
So in cocoa's haven, where stories are spun,
A tale of a farmer boy, not to be outdone.
From plows to confections, a journey divine,
In Hershey's legacy, let the sweet dreams shine.
