Another helpful video. Just ordered my Sherpa. As far as grease is concerned, we aren't using it to keep water out of our rc cars so no need to pack it in! When you put grease into a gearbox, the only place it does anything useful is between the mating surfaces of the gear teeth. Anywhere else and all it does is sit there adding weight. 😅 The panhard bar on the rear of this truck really has me puzzled. As it has four triangulated link arms there is no need for the panhard. In fact in strict geometrical terms it should basically lock the rear suspension up completely! The fact that it doesn't suggests to me that there is rather a lot of lateral play in the four link setup. I'll be sure to have a good dig into this when my Sherpa arrives!
This is a good video Phil. It's very clear and concise and easy to follow. I haven't done mine yet. I was a bit concerned about the diff cables. But now I know they're easy to remove and replace without having to make any adjustments. It's a good to use heat shrink on the cv joint clips. I also use heat shrink to cover the grub screws on the drive shafts. If one works loose it doesn't fall out and get lost. I'm looking forward to watching part three.
Great video! Was about to do some mods but noticed my Sherpa (June 2021) has some improvements but also downsides too. No need to do front cvd mod anymore as part you put heat shrink on is now enclosed. Bad new is there are no more 3D hard plastic door hinges, but only moulded into to body (same colour) which I don,t like. Hope they become available to print at some point :) Love your vids!Subbed
Thanks for watching and for the sub!🤙 If you've got access to a printer then I bet there will be hinge files on thingiverse, maybe for scx10iii as that's a jeep Rubicon as well. Worth a search. If not I would think you could buy the parts tree for them, maybe AliExpress, search for yk4102pro. Happy hunting.🤙
@@PhilBrindley Thanks Phill for the advice! I am going to paint it 1st and see how it looks, if that fail I’ll go and search for some suitable hinges. I am only worried that it would not sit properly as body where the hinges are is not flat but good 2mm raised above the surface. But hey nothing we could not solve in RC hobby :)
@@macosrcs7094 Really? I'm surprised by that as it would have meant changing the mould, I've checked under mine and they are not raised so they must have done that. Surely that's more costly than including the hinge parts! Very strange. I'm sure it will still look good, even if you just paint inside the lumps black!
@@davidhazelden2054 I would only do this with the stock springs as there is no other means of adjustment. If you've got coilovers then you can probably just buy softer springs. Can still change the oil for lighter and alter the piston to make them cycle quicker, just no need to cut springs if you can just buy softer. 🤙
Greetings from New Zealand mate! I’m new to this hobby and upgrading and modding seems rather intimidating. Being a CR3.4, which is also the one my yikong yk4104 has, would the upgrade parts on chassis like diffs, axles, servos, shafts etc. be the same? Thanks!
mmm, learned a lot of new terms there Phil, nicely done! Should we do this with the DR8 I wonder ? The diffs seem well hidden but sound a bit clunky on the dr8 , must be metal gears hiding in there, your video has made me wonder if I should look at them!
Thanks David, I think it's generally a good idea to check the diffs on any RTR to be honest. Metal gears do always make more noise, but still worth a look. Is there a centre diff as well on the DR8? If so, don't forget to do that one as well. 😁
Hi, it held up pretty well. I've not driven it for a while but I've not had any issues so far. Still going strong and nothing has broken. I think the Pro version is what the Sherpa should have been from the start with the upgrades they are including. Good luck with your dilemma, either one is a strong choice for sure. 🤙
@@PhilBrindley many thanks Phil you gain a sub. May I ask were do you get parts for this rc from I looked but no joy, my heart swings towards the sherpa pro but the trx4 has so much aftermarket support
@@sailingachilles7810 thanks for the sub. 😎 There is quite a large range of aftermarket parts from Absima directly, or the other option is AliExpress. The Sherpa is identical to the YK4102Pro, so if you search for that you'll find more! It's also just been rebadged for the US market, so that might see even more options coming out. 🤙

Hello! Great and helpful video 🙂 Please, can you tell me if the gears inside of the portal axles hubs, near the tires, are METAL gears?
Sorry, I don’t recall and I don’t have the Sherpa anymore so cannot check for you.

better use uncolored grease so you can see wear and if dirt comes in.
What diameter heat shrink is used?
Good question. I used 22mm inside diameter (measured flat). It was one of the sizes in the selection packs I had from Banggood. 👍
How does the absima sherpa hold up? I'm looking at the pro version of it or a traxxas trx4 defender
