Hi Phil, i found your Sherpa-Series is very interestful! My Sherpa is already on the way to me. After a few runs i decide wether i change the tires and / or the wheels, so every terrain is different and here in Germany i've a lot of them! Continue the videos! I like your voice and the content very much! Thumb up! Greets Onno
Great test and review!! I really liked the stock wheels, for a RTR truck, they are quite capable and don't need to be immediately swapped with something better. I've only changed them because i've had my eyes on the Proline BFGoodrich T/A KX tires that added to that scale look and with the Proline internal beadloc wheels, they are very well sealed and i can run them through water all day without a drop getting in and that's a huge plus for me as a LOVE crossing all the creeks that get in my way. Great video as always, sir! Have a great Sunday! Cheers from Romania! SHERPA POWER!!! 🤙
Real good test and clearly Louise did make a good tire for this car , I have the Yucatan 1;8 but I think these tires are doing the same on that car because it's the same platform . Thx to show it clearly for us ,,,,,
Thanks. Does the Yucatan run larger wheels and tyres? You might need to look at a 2.2” wheel and the appropriate sized tyre. I think Louise or Duratrax do a 2.2 version of the tyres.
Nice vid. Made the same expirience with my SCX 10 III, Carisma SCA and TRX 4 on CR Champs. At my ramp it also differs between 54-56 °. Amazing tires also in mud ,sand and gravel.
finally a good simple explanation and a good test how do the luise champ perform in sand ? is the extra weight of the metal wheels something good ? and what kind of foam is these tyres ? and are they better then the stock wheels and tyres from a trx4 ??
Thanks. I've never tested the TRX4 tyres, so can't be certain. But generally it's fair to say that OEM tyres and middle of the road at best. I'd be confident in saying these will perform better. Sand is an odd thing, not really seen anything do that well in it other than sand paddles LOL. Metal beadlocks are pretty much always a win (unless you have a super lightweight rig) as they help to lower the CoG a little (not much though to be fair). 🤙
The foams they come with are not great, I switched to using hair donuts. There are plenty of decent/cheap wheels on eBay. Can't post any links at the minute as I'm away, sorry.
Hi can you send me full details of what size the Louise tyres are and also the details of the alloys you used also size ect as I'm new to the hobbie so would like to get it right . Thank you
Hi, the wheels I use are just "cheap" eBay ones. These were the last set I bought. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313217355064?hash=item48ed358d38:g:yRAAAOSw6rFfXhfU Full size details for the Louise tyres are - outer diameter: 4.6 inches (117 millimeters) - width: 1.6 inches (42 millimeters) - inner diameter: 1.9 inches (48.26 millimeters)Hope that Helps. 🤙
Awesome Phil. Really enjoyed that experiment on them tyres. Iv got the bfgoodrich tyres on mine. Plus iv put weights in all of my wheels. Super grippy. 👍 Always full watch on ur vids. Very interesting wot you do. 👍 I thought all the gears were metal? I was thinking in putting a 35t hpi motor in mine. 👍 But il wait to see ur next vid before I fit it. 🇬🇧👍😀
Thanks Gaz, appreciate your support 🤙. I think the 35t would be slower, but more torque. I've got a HH Crawlmaster Sport 5 slot 12t on the way just out of sheer curiosity, as I'm pretty happy with the stock one. Still, all good spares for the next build. 😆
I can't find the Louise tyres anywhere in tne uk. It comes up with duratech on a Google search, are they the same thing. Also would you recommend these oner proline hyrwx tyres. I'm after an all purpose tyre really rather than anything specific
Hi Dan, Yes, these are exactly the same as Duratrax Deep Woods. You can only get the Louise version from eBay and they come from Asia (Club5Racing I think). They are a great all round tyre in my opinion and have performed well wherever I've used them. Hyrax are a great rock crawling tyre, but weak on other terrain (from what I hear, I've never tried them). The champs are very sticky so work on rocks, but also the open tread is good for digging in to loose stuff.
Hi Phil, great video! I am an enthusiastic Absima Sherpa owner, but I am very inexperienced. I want to upgrade the tires and wheels. What do you recommend me to purchase? I currently have the stock wheels. I would like to increase the weight of the wheels and have tires with more grip (I was thinking Louise CR Champ). Thank you very much for your reply.
Hi, The Louise Champs are a great all-round tyre, I'm sure you'll like them. For wheels I would go for some metal beadlocks from eBay or amazon if you are on a budget, or grab some Treal ones if you want to spend a little more. I should say that adding weight to the wheels is not optimal, have a look at adding weight to the axles rather than the wheels (non-rotational unsprung weight as low down as possible is the best the go for). Have a look for brass portal covers, diff covers, steering knuckles etc.
@@PhilBrindley ol, well done for the hair donut. I have seen sites which say that the louise RC CHAMPS are not compatible with the SHERPA. suddenly you took the 1.9 or the 2.2?
@@kevan071186 neither 1.9 or 2.2 will fit the stock Sherpa wheels. You will have to fit new wheels. I went for 1.9" which feel right for a scaler like the Sherpa. I think 2.2 would be too much.
Hi, it's only the stock Absima wheels/tyres that have the different size inside Vs outside. The others I test here are just standard 1.9" wheels and tyres inside and outside. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching 😁🤙
You're right for sure. Different tyres in different compounds suit different surfaces and conditions. But the Champs are a superb all rounder. I've switched to Proline Trenchers for pure rock crawling, but if it's mixed terrain the champs go straight back on! Thanks for watching 🤙
That was interesting the mid price ones winning, but actually the stock seemed pretty good , only a few degrees in it, how will they compare in the real world? Going to watch that one next!
I've gone for a halfway house for now, put the fake spare back on but left the rack off. I think I will put it back on for general use as I do love the look. It'll be coming off again for Fundero though for sure!
@@demomicrocrawlerclub I haven’t tried the Super Swampers, so I can’t really say. G8 compound seems really good based on the Flat Irons I have, but the Louise compound is softer and a little more sticky IMO. 🤙
@@demomicrocrawlerclub I’ve never used the Super Swampers, but I like the G8 compound for mixed driving. The champs would be a little more sticky on rocks but the tread pattern on the proline looks more aggressive. Hard to say without trying them though, sorry.
First of all you are not going to find flat pices of wood in the forest ! Ok maybe trash 😅but to judge a tires performance on this is useless! There is no rock ,mud ,sand, or dirt, please do a real test outdoors with real elements.
You're quite right of course, but it works as a controlled environment. But, real world test as requested 😉 th-cam.com/video/dCRPqJHY_Ok/w-d-xo.html Or some other tests on a different truck if you prefer. 😁 th-cam.com/video/92uh8CnKY_E/w-d-xo.html
I didn't think it would make all that much difference, but a couple of others have said the same. I'll re-run it at some point soon, but that means buying another set of wheels as life is too short to keep swapping them back and forth 🤣. Although, Mrs B is currently introducing our daughter to Erin Brockovich, so I do have some time on my hands!
Well, I re-ran the test with the Pro-Lines after a good clean and you are absolutely right. They are much better and as good as the Louise Champs. On balance though I'd still recommend the Louise over the Pro-line (certainly for the Sherpa) as both can out perform the chassis, but the Louise are significantly cheaper! To early to factor durability in, but if they turn out not to last well, at least I have a good set of spares 🤣. Thanks for the feedback. 🤙
Hi. I used self adhesive “lead” weights that are used for balancing full size car wheels and stuck them to the beadlock rings. You can get the weights from Amazon or eBay. Thanks for watching 🤙

Yeah, not the most scientific test ever 😆. Plus it is B&Q construction ply, so was banana shaped to start with 😉
The Luise tyres are rebranded duratrax deep woods here in uk 😍, am definitely getting these
They are indeed. I always struggle to find the Duratrax in stock though, the Louise always seem to be available but with about a week for delivery. 🤙
