In Novix HELO - FULL Review I finally get a chance to review this tree stand.
Ive had this stand for about 2.5 weeks before I decided to get a review out and let me tell you what, ITS AWESOME! Great price, great weight and great quality.
I think this is one of the best values in mobile hunting right now and if I was new to mobile hunting this is the stand I would buy.

The lone wolf hook strap made hanging the stand so easy. Not an all day stand but nice to get into the hard to reach areas and especially nice when you're not lucky enough to find that perfect tree. Still have my lone wolf from the 90's mint condition so nice to hang.
Them old lone wolfs are timeless stands!!

Your reviews of gear are among the best I've ever watched. I got mine for 204.00 to my door too, and I'm glad I pulled the trigger on it. I have the lwcg 1.0 and the .5 but the Helo is a really really good stand even at their full price. Worth every penny

Which one do you like the most? What is the difference in real world weight between them?
@@dionysis84 the .5 is crazy light 6.5# it's small but perfect for what it's for. These are hunt ready weights with backpack straps. The 1.0 is 9.5# and the Helo came in at 10.8# if i could only have one for every kind of Run n Gun hunt you could throw at it including all day hunts it'd hands down be the 1.0 cuz of the little roomier platform,seat, and how light it still is. Having said that I've never sat in the Beast stand and I look for Dan and Andrae both to release new stands this coming year. For me i think the best platform size would be 18"x 27"

I've been hanging stands for 35+ years. If a stand isn't designed with an attachment bracket to go with it, I will no longer buy it. You attach the bracket, pull up the stand with your pull rope, slip the stand in the bracket, and your hands are free to attached the standard two straps as back up. So far I have 5 stands with attachment brackets, & I will never go back to buying a stand that doesn't have them. Your stands look well made (American product). Incorporate an affordable attachment bracket into these stands, & they would be great! LIfe lines and attachment brackets for hanging stands have been my best hunting investment in recent years.
I believe all of these stands are able to use the lone wolf EZ hang bracket but let me confirm!

Was going to get one but honestly I can’t all day sit in the alpha let alone that thing, only stand I could ever all day sit in was a summit viper. Comfiest stand ever made

@@MichiganGreatOutdoors yea I take a foam cushion when I use the alpha on top of that original seat. I’m just not crazy about heights. And idk about having my feet sticking over the edge
“It’s comfortable. I can see myself all day sitting in this tree stand with no problem.” ...and THAT is part of the Lone Wolf/Novix niche. If a guy stands mostly, sure, then the larger Novix/Lone Wolf seat, (the same seat for all their hang on stands), might be a little in the way. And right now the Helo seat is too big for us that simply can’t wrap our head around why it isn’t even 1.5 lb lighter than the Assault 2. Well, as you said, the Helo platform is a bit thicker in spots, and I’m sure it’s for good reason. Anyhow, take it from a guy who owned a couple of the old Assaults. Yes, they were lighter, but I may have told you the reason I had two of them was that my buddy sold me his after telling me that sitting in it was like “sitting on a waffle iron.” So yes, the larger seat is definitely more comfortable. Oh, and am I the only guy who appreciates the extra depth of the seat so I can turn up to 90* to either side? Thankfully the cables help keep me on the platform lol, but I couldn’t do that on my old Millennium M7 Micro for the design of the seat, and you can’t really do that on the little OOAL Hush or on a LWCG .5 because the seats are so small. While I can see how some might say the Assault 2 is simply Goldilocks, I agree with you. The little added width in the back probably isn’t worth the extra cash. Again, the cables help keep you on the platform. Great comparison and review! Think I’ll be really happy with mine. 12/23
EDIT: sold my Helo as I said in my more recent comment (as well as my Echo) and bought one of the last available Lone Wolf Assault 2’s. My 2 cents is that while the Helo may be the perfect size for ladies, it’s a little too narrow to allow sitting facing to either side, or for average to larger size men’s boots. So why have such a big seat, anyhow, if you don’t have room for your boots when you want to turn 45* or more to either side? So since Lone Wolf is out of business, if you don’t mind a stand made in china, as far as I know, the XOP Vanish Evolution is really the only comparable cast aluminum stand to my Lone Wolf Assault 2 in terms of specs and affordability.

I definitely prefer a hang on, but I know the first time I’m going half a mile straight up a 500 ft elevation gain on a mountain in the dark I’d be cussing myself out for not getting a saddle lol
@@MichiganGreatOutdoors I found 16 Wild Edge steps for $40 on marketplace last night so I just went with the saddle (Trophyline to avoid the wait times) to stick with the no bulk theme. Absolute deal of my life right there. I could sell half of them and easily double my investment lol
Great review, I am looking for my first hang on and thinking of going with the echo only because of the larger platform, although the helo looks very tempting. I think I would go with the mini sticks just so I can walk through without catching on to anything. Thanks again for the review. Any promo code would be greatly appreciated.

Love the looks of this stand. Trying to talk myself into this over the .5 lwcg for my long hikes and super thick areas where you need something small and won't be going as high... ughhh. I can get this one at least a week faster as well

How sketchy is the .5 when you are up in the tree? That platform doesn't look like you have much room! That is my only fear of getting it. Also does the weight check out as advertised? That is a decent amount of difference in weight savings over the helo if legit but I'm not a fan of a super super small platform when I'm 20' or more up
Ill be honest its tiny as he*l but I its big enough for me. Your not up there doing a tap dance lol, I can see alot of guys not liking it for this reason but I think the smaller size and obvious weight its totally worth it for true run n gun hunting. Ive probably walked 20-25 miles with this stand on my back this season already. Makes u so much more efficient specially in swamps. Cut out a cardboard cut out of the platform and stand on it and see if it works for u. Also the seat is tiny too lol. I was in mine for 4 hours tonight stoood the whole time. Good luck
I agree with you about the weight. I don’t think you can get much lighter with the cast aluminum stands. They’re right at the happy medium with platform size seat size and weight. If someone wants something lighter they probably need to go with a different material.
Yeah, I agree. One thing I forgot to mention is how in all of Novix social media they emphasized safety. Kinda makes me believe they are leaning tword safety first which is #1 in my book. If you want ultra-lightweight u gotta pay to play! 😂
I have the echo and climbing sticks and love them, def thinking about an helo and mini sticks.

The helo is a great little stand but for all day comfort I need something longer than 26". As you get older you're not gonna want to tuck your knees underneath your legs all day. It would be nice if they made a stand that is longer and still nice and light. The beast stand is but they have a spongy feel to them
Well L.w.cg just came out with the .75 has a 27" platform and u can get it in different size options for the seat post height. Reall can customize it to your body now.
Agree packability is just as important as weight for me.
Absolutely, specially climbing up and around limbs too with it on your back!
Great review Jayce. Looks like Novix nailed it down. I'm not a lock on guy at all but your review is sorely temping me to try it and have as an option in the arsenal. The price point boggles my mind. How are they even making money?

The problem with my Helo is one I didn’t have a foot or two off the ground, but I expected the shock of how narrow the spot I step on from my top climbing stick to wear off by now. (Unfortunately I waited like 3 days too long to send it back.) I get up there and keep thinking of how I’m going to be stepping between cables onto this little bitty triangle in the dark. I had a couple of the old Assaults years ago and never gave it any thought. And the guy on the phone with Novix just told me what they told me last year, that my Echo only weighs 11.5 lbs, only half a pound more than the Assault 2, as well as confirming that the Helo weighs only a pound less than the Assault 2. My scale tells me my Echo is closer to 14 lbs but I digress. What I have a hard time understanding is why I ordered a stand that’s over 3 inches narrower than the tried and true Assault 2 to save myself from toting a pound more. Please no comments about my intelligence. I already feel kind of dumb, but am I missing something else?
You should be able to easily sell this stand on Facebook market place, sounds like you need a bigger platform. Assault 2 or the Novix Echo which you have. My Echo is 11.5 lbs
@@MichiganGreatOutdoors I hope so. Don’t think my Echo is quite that light but I haven’t taken the footrests and seat cushion off to confirm yet. I’m debating trying to order a Millennium seat for it from the guy you bought yours from if he’s still selling them. I’ll definitely be checking apples to apples once I have all three stands to compare. The Assault is supposed to come in tomorrow. I’m not a big guy, but there’s just something that looks and feels right with the 19.5” platform. That’s about the size of all I’ve ever used, come to think about it, even stands other than Lone Wolfs and Summits. Never hunted off one of the little Loc-ons. They were a little even before my time....so I guess the most narrow platform I’ve ever hunted from is an Ole Man, which is 18”. That didn’t feel that narrow, though, since it was a climber and the platform was so long. I don’t wear a saddle, either, and I assume that would add a bit of security.
Luv your reviews!!! I’m totally in a spot with choosing a setup. I really had decided about a year ago to get into saddle hunting/mobile hang n hunt after hunting out of a summit viper lite for 20yrs. I’ve just gotten to point where I find myself needing and wanting more then my climber can provide and ease of walking through woods will out weigh comfort. I’ve kinda narrowed it down to helo, xop vanish evo, lwcg .75, lwcg .5. Now last year helo stood above the rest for combo of weight and cost it was no brainer!!! Well I dragged my feet getting saddle and stick setup 1st but cuz of that now the helo has raised in price to $330. Now things become harder to decide upon. Is the extra $200 worth it for the lwcg now. $300’s kinda of a threshold for me where I say is it worth the extra money to jump up? At $240 there’s no question to me the choice. The .75 is almost an exact comparison of helo just machined and the .5 is kind of in a world of its own.
Yeah man I feel your pain. I will say without hesitation that the L.W.C.G equipment is superior to everything on the market, buy once cry once is the saying, but its also a tuff pill to swallow. Them raising there prices (novix) really sucks. I just got the .75 and I think its the ultimate stand. It meets all the criteria I need. The .5 is my go to stand for short hunts, less than 6 hours.

I ordered this stand and the mini double step sticks a few days ago. I've been running the Lone wolf assualt and xop sticks, this should save some weight and smaller profile.
Heck yeah it will, Im gonna pair it with my Trophyline minis or my home made beast sticks!
How did you go about attaching the sticks to the frame? I want to order this and have been curious about using the lonewolf stick quiver
@@vwrFEW I lay the sticks down and use the strap to tighten them down. I've also used bungies to help keep them tight

I have the helo and love it. I was wondering what the purpose of the notch or slit is supposed to be for on the platform of the stand. One side has a cut in it while the other side does not. Let me know what you think.
Its supposed to be for a press in LOGO that never was developed I guess....

Do you think the Helo is light enough to strap on the back of a backpack if there are 2/3 horizontal compression straps? Thinking about selling gear to purchase this stand. I think I would rather attach my sticks to the bottom of a pack instead of to the stand and also compress the stand on the pack. Thoughts?
I think its possible if you have the right pack, say like a kifaru or something built to handle a load. Dont wanna rip your pack up.

Yes all of the novix sticks will nest on the upright post.

Curious if you may have added or know anyone that has added the foot rest to the helo? I have the helo and just ordered the foot rest. I know the platform does not have the predrilled holes but I’m going to try and install them. Was just looking around to see if anyone has already done that and how it worked.

To be totally honest with you, I didnt get a chance to run it. It was gonna be my rut stand all day sitter but I got Covid and missed the whole rut. When I came back in December I just saddle hunted.

@@mikebaker1044 I have a buddy who ran it all season and really liked it. I did run it in Kentucky in September and enjoyed using it. Very comfortable and spacious for me. Im used to hunting out of the very small lwcg .5 stand.

@MichiganGreatOutdoors I picked mine up for 100$ fully tricked out , all covered in stealth strips and power chord wrapped got a absolute deal on the stand. Little bit heavy but it's still a ten pound set , solid option and for 100$ can't beat it .

The only problem is that the helo is the same weight as the original assault but helo is much smaller -the assault 2 was beefed up for no reason what so ever believe it was done around 2010
Yeah, it will be interesting to see what Andrae does now that he fully owns Lone Wolf again. Ive heard rumblings about them doing cast stands again.
Is the stand platform as sturdy as the lw assault?

Yeah, it's a good point but sometimes a really small platform is helpful when hunting tiny trees that have lots of limbs. Certainly this stand is not for everyone!!
