It did take some time getting used to climbing and descending the tree. Once I figured it out I was comfortable going in climbing a tree knowing I was going to be up a tree quickly and most importantly quite not scaring every deer out of my area. I am 6’2” and 240 lbs, fit and comfort were great. I bow hunt and found no issues hunting from it. It is a little bulky to carry in and out of the woods vs some of the smaller open front climbers but I thought it was worth the bulk/weight due to ease of climbing (using the rail to sit on) and comfort for long sits.
I leave the sticks in the holder and climb with stand on back. Main thing with LW sticks you need to make sure you get steps correct so that your opposite foot is away from stand at height to be able to safely step onto platform. Also need to cam the platform over once secure and it just drives the offset bracket into tree and makes it so much more secure. I’ve got 3 of the Assault II setups love them
The quality & thought that goes into the LW product is hands down head & shoulders above almost all out there. My concern is with the age old argument climber or stick/hang on system. With my LW Assault Hand Climber I only need my backpack, bow and stand & I'm ready to hunt light weight and low profile. Although having missed a very nice shot opportunity on a large Doe recently due to where I had to climb (most straight tree, public land) I'm seriously considering.
I run and gun a lot on public land, so I'll probably end up getting a Assault II for those hard to climb trees that my Summit climber can't do. Good video.

I have the original version of the Alpha hang-on I bought in 2005-2006, and just got the upgrade seat assembly last month, and have the older version of the 3 piece climbing sticks,which I am having slight problem with.The V brackets keep coming loose,even after tightening the nuts. I think its because of the broken nylon washers on them,but I can not find them at our Ace Hardware here in town. I live in a small town,and thats all we have around. I sent an e-mail through Lone Wolfs website to see If it was possible to get some somehow,but never recieved a response.. Thanks guys,and keep at it ... Wished I could set up in 7 minutes, but with my age,and setting up in the dark,takes a bit longer, (ok, I lied,more than a bit) LOL ... I would setup the day before the hunt,but thats not an option hunting on public land..
Thanks for this video. I was trying to keep an open mind about hang on and sticks vs a climber. After watching I am certain that a climbing stand is for me. Unless there was absolutely no good trees for a climber I can see where the hang on would be the choice.
Greg Cox I thought the same until I realized my climber was a handicap. There’s some nasty areas I can get into with my LW that I could never get into with my climber. It’s a lot easier to scout hot sign and sit right up on it verses scouting trees that can fit your climber.

I used to hunt on the ground in natural blinds, sitting on the ground...its a challenge but there are benefits. One is that you can hunt pretty much anywhere. Two is how stealthy and quiet you can get set up. The biggest deer I have killed was from a lawn chair in cover watching a scrape. Each method has its pros and cons I guess.
To those that missed the point that this is a video about settling up a fixed position stand and not a comparison of fixed verses climber. BTW lone wolf makes a heck of a climber also

I absolutely love mine and consider it the best stand I own or have ever had. I am thinking about going to 5 sticks instead of the 4 I've been using. Maybe it's just me but I think I would like the extra height!
I only use my Alpha 2 with 3 sticks even though I have 4. 4 is crazy high! I can't imagine stepping onto an even smaller platform than the Alpha at 20+ feet. Crazy. Nonetheless, congrats to the boys who got their Lone wolf stands before the prices leaped up $100 in just one year. Think Lonewolf is under the name Novix now, same thing basically but yeah try $350 for an American made cast aluminum stand now. That's what happens when people pay $600 for a beast stand or LWCG
Sticks are neither the best means nor the quickest...especially on a tree that has "character!" I use the "Stepp Ladder" system...much quicker, easier to transport, works exceptionally well on ALL trees (not just the straight ones with no branches). The Lone Wolf stand, however, is the bomb...best stand made!
great video. i love hunting and always wanted lone wolf stuff. but for a person like me its just so expensive and i cant afford it. but awsome product. maybe one day ill own one.
I feel like it needs to be said, doing this that quickly, and that efficiently, in one trip, takes lots and lots of practice and rounds of trial and error. The real problem comes when you have to constantly throw a second strap around to get over limbs and branches, that’s when the fatigue sets in
I’ve always used a rope with two carabiners on the end. One of them at the very end and the other a couple feet up. Tie your bow to one and pack to the other
people really dont know how much you can do in 7 mins whether it's long or short. because it looked like he was taking a long time 2 setup but yet it was only 7 mins.
Funny how people poo poo on your video and product. Guess there`s a lot of experts out there. I use climbers and Lone wolf hangers with sticks. EVERYTHING is a trade off ! All have their applications, advantages and disadvantages. Height? How tall are you? does this work? Get another stick. These are just tools that allow us to do the things we love. Myself I think Lone Wolf makes a pretty solid product.
I'm new to hunting, I hunt moose in Alaska with .338 also bear bait. This seems all for bowhunters, which is great. Is there a shooting rail that could be added for rifle hunters?
Yes it will - the momentum of your fall will swing you into the tree. It's not comfortable... you'll likely hit your face/chest because you're so close to the tree already, but it's better than a fall to the ground.
Honestly this should show how to get more than 12’ up in a tee. There are safer methods that will get you higher with the same or cheaper equipment. Just FYI for new purchasers
The lineman rope it a great idea, but nearly useless on a tree with low branches similar to a climbing stand because you’ll constantly have to attach and unattach from the tree to avoid branches. Anybody have any other ideas or do most people just not use a line man belt until they get to the top and attach the platform?
im a lineman and we have a secondary for transfers,, that is if in the hunting situation would be limbs but we use to tranfer over phone and secondary power lines,, so basicly its just another linemans rope.. lol lots of crap to drag out just to be safe,, i just take my time and make sure i always have 3 points of contact when climbing trees
I know you can get into different sized trees with them but ill always use the hand climbers they cant be beat on speed maybe one day ill get a hang on, either way good stuff
Hand climbers must go on straight, limbless trees. A good system to hang and hunt can be ground to hunting in 10 minutes and you aren't limited to certain tree types. Test a cheap-o hang on sometime. You might really like it.
@@42fingerzexactly. Practice makes perfect. It was tough for me at first even though I'm in great shape but like 42 fingerz said ,. Once you have your own system down, it's easier. Practice on a couple different types of trees once a week before the season starts and you'll be dialed in. My old man no longer has to come out & help me hang a big old ladder stand! Now I can go set up some LW sticks and a Xop stand for him & hunt right next to him the same exact day. It's deadly man! I have does in my backyard that look at the same exact ladder stand every time they come through. Gonna need to take that one down lol.
You need to have alot more gap between sticks then the 6 inches in this video. This system may not be as easy as a climber, but how long does it take to find a tree without limbs and in the right spot to get high enough or with enough cover. This system allows you to pick what ever tree is in the best location no matter how many branches or the angle of the tree. May be more work and take a little more time, but I know I have spent 20 min walking around public land in an area i want to hunt but cant find a tree that i can climb. you deff cant get 25 feet with this system unless you bring alot of sticks along or use the two stick method but in my opinion that is nosier and way more work to carry 5 or 6 less pounds into the woods. you can get to 15 to 18 feet depending on gap between sticks.
@@MrJasinski101 I'm lucky enough that in Tennessee there are lots of strait limbless trees until 30 ft or so. I only use a climber cause I like to get higher where the cover is. In the mid west it looks like you can't get 5 ft up with out a limb so I guess lock on is only option
Kenneth Jasinski you can also tie a one inch strap around your bottom stick so it loops down 2 or 3 feet feet and just step onto the strap for your bottom step so you can put your first stick much higher. I feel like the ones that complain about this system aren’t thinking through using it in the most efficient way possible. If you do, just like you said. You wont be trekking around the area you want to hunt just to find a decent tree to climb.
Kenneth Jasinski yes, climber are more gun only and straight trees thats why there a front rail and for used bow hunting its on on getting as close to that trail as possible

Adam Hawk True but the woods has to be full of trees that look like telephone poles. Its hard to find that perfect tree for a climber in a lot of places.
Sorry. Never lean back off a tree handsfree.. unless you don't mind pushing yourself around in a wheelchair for 50 years. Also, never climb on a leaning tree when it is leaning toward you. Also, this guy doesn't hunt. No offense, sir.

I have the Assault w/sticks and the Sit and Climb the best of both worlds. Two best tree stands on the market.

id run an aider, 4 sticks and an aider should get you well into 20+ft

Good, quality gear. I love my set up but it is a pain in my eyes. I seem to want to hunt my ladder stands just because it's easier.

J Reeves use your tether, move the lineman belt past the branch, remove tether, continue on.

3 steps seems like not enough if you need 4 to get to 16 to 18 ft?
Key is way more space between each stick, atleast 15 to 20 inches depending on your height!

headlamp and practice. It's actually not bad once you know your system. I have gotten used to tying my shoes, and can also do that in the dark.

The only thing I'd change is to tie it to the cam that's on nock side of arrows...mud in your nocks isn't fun!

Why 25 feet?
Using the EZ Hook is much easier.
EZ hook is fine if you’ve got nice straight trees, but it’s a handicap if you don’t.
