I was 9 years old when this came out and still have the poster from when I purchased it with my birthday money.
Still play through it once a year atleast, but can't help think about what a shame it is that it went under the radar. It easily could have been a long lasting series.
It's almost depressing how good the AI is in this game compared to, say, Arma 3. Like, the soldiers act like REAL SOLDIERS, they clear buildings room by room, they execute bounding overwatch, they capture and use enemy vehicles, infantry sticks to the armor and uses it as cover, like, seriously, BI needs to step their shit up for Arma 4!

You can always play call of duty on recruit if you like standing in front of machineguns without being hit
Red McCloud One time I was playing this game and I was the last man alive in my squad. The Chinese soldiers actually had the smarts to surround the building and flank me from another doorway I had no clue about. AIs would never do that in Arma. It's a shame this game has been left in the dust only because developers didn't set the game to stand the test of time.

I haven't tried it in a while, but multiplayer should still work, you just enter in the hosts IP, and connect directly to them, probably wouldn't hold up too well in a full adversarial match, but coop should be fine. and if you dont want to give out your IP, there are programs like Evolve that lets you create a virtual LAN that people can connect to, and then you just use the LAN option to make a room in-game. Multiplayer should still be very possible here, there just may or may not be the additional hoop to jump through. LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN PEAPUL!

I've been playing this on Xbox one, This game is awesome! The Annihilation game mode is good. I think Red River is good but they kind of went backward with the design of that game, Maybe because someone else developed it. Nice video too, have a good new year Bluedrake

Good fun man, good luck taking some of those towns towards the middle of Skira. you have not seen war until you see how teeming with Chinese they are. Protip: Arty and heavy armor is your very best friend.
Also don't go to the Volcano if you don't wan't to die rather quickly.

What AI mod are you using? I've had a little look around and I can't find one.
Just watching this puts me in awe at how the AI move and communicate with each other, yes it has its bugs but this is a game which came out years ago and is considered outdated, yet it has more features than most new mil sims! Reinstalling as we speak. Lets revive this game!!

shiit I remember this on Xbox 360, I liked multiplayer more than campaign because in multiplayer you could respawn and also command like an 8 A.I. squad lnstead of just 2 dudes (and you can also easily get LAV tank or helicopters whereas in campaign you have to play that level to use those vehicles
man if this game released only with this it would be much better
I never looked at this when it came out. I followed BI instead. This looks good fun though. The AI and user interface of this combined with Arma would be insanely good.
Steam has this listed for £1.74 and its expansion for £1.74.... or... I could opt for a bundle of the two for £11.99. :P

I do have 1.02 yes, and am able to start the mission, however as soon as we enter Taranay, my allies just disappear and we can't capture it. I do have the entity expansion mod added so...idk

bluedrake as far as I know red river is an improved version of dragon rising. not amazing but its essentially the same game, but more polished and fleshed out. correct me if I'm wrong but I actually remember finishing red river while dragon rising got really annoying
I couldn't deal with RR, DR was much more enjoyable imo
I dunno, I got too annoyed with DR every time if I played 3 missions or so. Red River I remember getting to one of the last missions before being a bit bored.

It's too bad this game has horrible mouse acceleration and an FOV of 60 that you can't do anything about. Those are my only two gripes with this game, but it's enough to prevent me from playing it regularly. Such a shame, because it really is a good game. Feels a lot like SQUAD if it had a campaign.
you know what's bullshit, one of the DLCs for this game added an "Island Tour" level, that's basically this without the combat. they really fucked up with this game. all they needed was a co-op sandbox like this
