Follow my instagram for more! - instagram.com/theretrofuturephotos/ I hope you enjoyed the little intro. Unfortunatly the song I had first used to make the sequence ended up being copyright claimed... So I had to use something else which didnt work quite as well.... but OH WELL! I'm not Hollywood.. Hopefully you can still enjoy! x
Elliot, the intro reminded me a lot of when the one of the boys on Top Gear or The Grand Tour are doing a review of an epic car, with sweeping shots and atmospheric music. I think you did a fantastic job and would love to see more videos in that style
Eiden was a chain of electronics stores based in the Tokai region (Nagoya, etc...). They were part of a group of electronics stores with different names in different regions of Japan. In 2012, all stores were brought under the “Edion” name nationwide.
Nice! And it’s already commented here before I comment in my awful English.. I live in Japan, and “Edion (エディオン)” is the most popular electronics store in my region, and also around western part of Japan 🇯🇵
Tech & Design: I believe it! I read that Edion is #3 in sales among all Japanese electronics stores, behind Yamada Denki at #1 & Bic Camera at #2. (I live in Osaka & I’m a Yodobashi Camera fan, myself... 😉 They have a 24-7 online order pickup desk!)
Yep, "A-den", not "Eden". I've only been living in Japan for a few years in Kanto, so I've never heard of this store, but I did wonder if it was somehow related to Edion. Thanks for the info!
I want 2 collect all of the littlebigplanets 4 the ps3 ive currently got 1,2,3 (3 doesent work),and metel case limited edition lbp 2 I know i went WAY off track
0:18 - Sonic Screwdriver? Elliot is a Time Lord confirmed. Also, Eiden (pronounced "aid-un") was a Japanese home electronics store chain that was founded in 1955. After a series of mergers they were rebranded to Edion, which is why the original "Eiden" name might not yield many results in searches.
I’m a relatively new watcher, but you really piqued my interest. I really enjoy learning about retro gaming from you. After I told a friend about my new interest, he gave me a GBA SP for my birthday. Thanks, from a kid who has a similar first name. Edit: I changed grammar to make my comment more clear, but in doing so, the heart was removed. oof
Daiei Hawks was the name of a Japanese baseball team from 1988 to 2004, while they were owned by the Japanese supermarket chain Daiei (nowadays they're owned by Softbank and called the Softbank Hawks), iirc there was also a Deiei Hawks GBA made with Nintendo's partnership
I picked up a totaled GBA from a car boot for a fiver. When I say totaled I mean it looked like it had been chewed by a dog. By some miracle however, it was electronically sound so I ordered a smoke black aftermarket shell. I used red enamel paint to fill in the Nintendo logo as well as the Start/Select labels. Much as it was a super simple, cosmetic only mod, it looks awesome.
I just added an aftermarket shell for my gameboy pocket. It was a greenish forest looking color with grey buttons, but now it has a yellow color with black buttons! Only $11 USD too!
When I lived in Japan from 2007-2011, there were quite a few Eidens around. They were a lot like the old "Comp USA" stores--dedicated more to electronic devices than they were to media. Like, they had a single aisle for games, but no music or movies. The main part of the store was computer hardware and small household appliances. You could find some fun stuff there though, like adapters to plug in your Playstation controllers to USB.
Honestly the GBC is one of my favorite classic GB models. It’s the easiest to mod with screen mods that are just complete drop in kits, flash carts can be installed into them, their shells and screen covers have multiple color options as well as their buttons, and overall it’s a far more comfortable system to hold compared to the GB DMG and the GBP. Overall out of all the classic game boy units, I feel the color is the best because of its versatility and design, as well as its overwhelming fan support.
At launch day in Belgium they only had two colours available. Purple and Atomic Purple. The other colours were going to be available few weeks later but I couldn't wait!
Hey Elliot! I messaged you a while back. Do you think you could shed some light on the the Gameboy Izek Sewing machine and Gameboy Color Combo? I recently purchase a CIB teal Gameboy Color/Seeing machine combo. I absolutely feel that more people should know how neat this is. If you’re still reading this, please check out Kelsey Lewin’s video on TH-cam! She does a fantastic job with her information coverage!
Yes. That's correct. (Fukuoka) Daiei Hawks is a Japanese baseball team. When Daiei Hawks won, the orange and black Gameboy colors were sold to commemorate. Now Daiei Hawks is named "Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks".
I decided to change the shell on my GBC because the original shell was absolutely destroyed and I kinda settled on a clear-black shell (with a gen 2 pokemon screen lens) on ebay because it was the only one that would arrive in a reasonable amount of time. I hadn't played anything on it in years but wanted to fix it up because it looked disgusting. (It used to be my brother's, it was a kiwi green one and had black sharpie all over and glue from duct-tape on the back because the battery cover was lost) Obviously the shell I got is a reproduction, so it's not special or anything, but I had no idea that an original clear-black shell was so rare. I've been thinking about changing the shell for something else, something that feels a bit more Nintendo, but honestly the black has kinda grown on me.
For a scratched up screen, you can use something like PolyWatch or any other kind of plastic polish. I recently bought a pretty beat up Dingoo A320 on eBay, and essentially rubbed out all the scratches with some effort and patience.
I like how the Eiden version of GameBoy Color is like the exact opposite of the Original GameBoy... It's small, black, and translucent, instead of an opaque, chunky, off-white brick. Neat review
I'm gonna be honest you really had me thinking that it was somehow a gameboy color that had a monochrome display for over half the video. To be fair, it's 6:30am here and I haven't slept yet.
The gameboy color is my favorite gameboy variant and probably just one of my favorite consoles in general, and I kept thinking a clear black one existed but wasn’t sure if that was just a fever dream or not, glad to know I’m not insane lmao

Toyota, oh we did that last time! Slick intro, another good pickup. Perhaps try running the Bad Apple rom on a flash cart as it would be a good way to show them off for the demo section and keep the footage in focus on a fixed camera angle.
Upon reading the orange slip in the box, it says that as this is a special limited colour variant, in the event that a repair is required Nintendo may invite you to receive a regular model game boy colour. Details are in the instructions. Not sure that slip came with all variants but kinda interesting.
@@TheRetroFuture yes way! In case you are interested the other slip essentially says that while software which is compatible with the original gameboy/gameboy light will work with the gameboy colour it may not function correctly. When I did read the title, I was expecting that something was broken, what made the screen display no color.
