My Dad was a graphic designer and my mom worked as a journalist. From my personal experience, DO NOT become a graphic designer if you live in a developed nation. It is the easiest job to outsource. My mom's magazine switched over to people from India in her final years in that field, and my Dad says he would not go into it today if he was starting out (he is mostly retired now). When I lived in Mexico, half my friends were graphic designers. I'm sure you are great, but there are talented people all over the world who will work for a fraction of what you can live on in the UK. Aside from my father, I exclusively use designers abroad. There are a lot of creative fields, I encourage you to look at one that must be done on-site. Photography and video production are two that come to mind. Good luck!

Hey Chris, I genuinely think you can optimize the automation of this business. Instead of having someone manually send order numbers with order information, there should be a way to have the order sent directly to the next available artist, and be able to track the status of the order. And then have the final product checked and sent for printing/delivery. I think you’ve done extremely well, next step make it so everything flows on its own.
@@lukeidiot She's a talent manager. Artists are at their best when they can focus on their work and not have to worry about anything else. She handles all the overhead and makes it a very simple process for the artist to receive the commission, complete the work, and send it back. 10:38 - My job is to create systems to automate a fulfilment centre as much as possible. I really think you could automate this process much easier. A simple system would be to automatically download the image, add to something such as dropbox where the artists can pick them up, work on the design and put into a 'done' folder to be picked up. Then the artist doesn't have to wait for the files. One step better would be to have a simple web app where the images / orders are added by the integration where the artists can pick them up, once completed, someone else quality checks the work, uses the same web app to crop / adjust the image and click a button to have it send to the printers.
To add to this, it could easily create notes on the orders to keep track on which artist accepted the work. Can update order statuses with tracking numbers from your printer company etc. I'm happy to help with this as I think this would save you a lot of time.
Always love watching your videos, rewatched this. I'd be interested to see what books you like to read. It's always interesting to see the collection of people into Business, helps go through their mindsets
