Non-Canadians look at a bag of milk, and wonder Why would you want to keep a liquid in a container with no firm structure? The answer is: Before opening them (snipping off a corner with scissors), we put the bags in these standard (& re-useable) molded plastic jugs that hold them snuggly & securely upright. The advantage to bags is: _much_ less waste packaging than disposable jugs or waxed/plasticky cartons. And by the way, the bags are pretty tough, so they don't leak unless they've _really_ gotten banged around.

I used to drink a lot of milk as a kid and it was in bags. Now I don't drink so much and buy the smaller cartons but I much prefer the bags. For the larger amounts of milk, the bags are way better than the big jugs we used to use in the 70s before metric and the bags came in.

"Great White North" was a phrase used by the characters Bob and Doug Mackenzie [Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas] in the SCTV comedy show that ran in the early 1980s. Moranis and Thomas were making fun of the most embarrassing Canadian cultural cliches, and since the show was aired in the U.S., the phrase caught on, even more with Americans than Canadians.

One of the greatest showcases of the Canadian attitude was Bob and Doug MacKenzie skit on Second City. It was a comedy skit show produced, written by, directed by and acted by Canadians. It was shown in the States which is how they set the length of the show. In Canada however there was about 2 minutes less commercial time than in the States. So they were told to do a recurring skit to cover the extra time and to make sure it was Canadian. This had everyone confused because everything was already Canadian. So as a form of sarcasm they introduced the skit of Bob and Doug MacKenzie aka Tbe Great White North. They would sit around drinking beer, talking about hockey, wearing toques and say eh a lot. It became wildly popular in Canada and spawned the movie Strange Brew

Yes, the country on the whole is poor, and there is a fair amount of poverty there (certainly compared to the most of the tourists who can afford to visit the Caribbean on holiday) but their government actually provides a lot of important things free for them that the USA doesn't for their people. Our elections are administered by a non-partisan federal agency and voters decide the winner, not some 'electoral college'. Our politicians are still forced to resign when caught doing something immoral or illegal. Canadians can go to Walmart, concerts and nightclubs without being shot. Weed is legal.

      1) 1 bag of milk = 1.33333 litres of milk, as there are 3 bags per bag, not 4. 2) I regularly drink 4 litres of milk per week myself, so the bagged milk isn’t just for large families. 3) Bagged milk is available all over Quebec, most of Ontario (that I’m aware of), and at least part of the Maritimes. 4) Fun fact: My mom still gets her milk delivered by the milkman in the suburbs of Montreal.

Milk in bags keeps the milk fresh longer as you get like 3 or 4 smaller portion bags in a bigger bag so only a small portion of the milk is exposed to external contaminants. Some people even freeze the extra bags... but those people are weird XD. All in all I prefer the bag method. Bagged milk is not done across the country though I live in Edmonton and bagged milk is not a thing here. Regarding the "Great white north" moniker my assumption is that we just get longer and more severe winters than most a you southern neighbours of ours ^_^. save Alaskans so it just stuck I can assure you we're not "all white" XD

lol "no one's going skiing like that" people DO go skiing like that here. In the spring it gets warm enough to ski without a jacket or winter gear and there's still snow on the ground. It is a form a physical activity so you do work up a sweat! I've seen guys skiing in their underwear on the slopes.

It's still term for the $1 coin itself, but the currency is still and likely always will be "dollars". "Give a bum a looney". "Your car costs $40,000 dollars" and so on...

milk in bags is much more enviromentaly responsible. we are the 'great white north bc of all the ice and snow, including many glaciers, but def not bc of white people. not only do we have a very large first nations component, but because we welcome so many immigrants - and always have - we are one of the most multi-cultural nations on earth'. maybe it was just a very bad day, but my perception is that one of you should def not be doing this type of work/hobby. very critical and sarcastic, just giving off a lot of negative energy. it ruined the vid for me, so i had to downvote. sorry

@@sadee1287 less energy and cost to manufacture and transport. if they DO end up in landfill, 20 bags takes up way less space than one carton or jug. also, many people wash the bags and re-use the for kitty litter or dog poop - just cut off the top of the bag completely. there are more reasons, but that's good for a start
