- When two generations go head to head. An old lion battles a young one! Shoaib Akhtar v Rohit Sharma - a contest you may not remember. This was from from group game between India and Pakistan from Asia Cup 2010. Rohit only faced 6 balls from Shoaib Akhtar in his International Cricket career. He managed to score 10 runs of that over but Shoaib too almost got him out twice! And guess what? Kamran Akmal managed to drop a catch in that over as well! Shoaib was the fastest bowler of his generation and Rohit is a good player of pace bowling. So one can wonder what if they had played more against each other!

Even Sarfaraz was and is way ahead of Kamran (could have been an exciting prospect, had he worked hard on his fitness). Mohammad Rizwan, IMO, is someone, who truly looks like Moeen Khan's successor.
Neither Shoib was at his prime nor Rohit found his potential at that time but still its great to watch these two legends of cricket.

He used to spend so much energy on those few 150+ deliveries that it exhausted him real quickly.
Brett lee was another bowling great, he also used to bowl 150+ plus deliveries but unlike Shoaib he learned his lesson and quit bowling those 155+ deliveries and that prevented him from injuries and the reduction in pace enabled him to bowl 145 kph all day whereas SA bowled those 7-8 near 155 deliveries and struggled to go past 140 in his later overs.

There is a huge difference in technique then and now. He was more of a flamboyant type with not so sure backlift. Over a period , Rohit start his back lift as straight as possible and also not tapping on the ground many a times. Stand upright, straight and more still with head. That lead to more compactness in the approach and he knew exactly about his of stump. In this video Rohit use to come at 5 or 6 which was not giving him time to score too many runs but quickfire 30 or 40. Since Sachin and sehwag opening followed by David, Laxman, ganguli Rohit was in and out of the team. Its MSD read his hooking and pulling instinct even on fastest of tracks and bowlers made him a world class superstar batter. Shoiab lost his pace a huge lot by the time he reach this point. Still was a lethal and flamboyant bowler, lovely to watch with his run up itself. Overall a great video to watch apart from dropping catches by kamran akmal

Whether he was bending his arm 15 or 25 in a match situation, how can you measure? The same logic applies to other chuckers of that era- Murali, Harbhajan, Saqlain, Saed Ajmal, Dharmasena etc....
