2003 world Cup was a showpiece event for fast bowlers, Akhtar, Lee and Bond all playing at their peak and to add the pacy South African pitches to unleash their arsenal, it was a treat for fans of fast bowling, can't remember any other world Cup where fast bowlers were so lethal, Starc and Johnson look paltry in front of this show.

Hell no, Shoaib never bowled 150+ consistently he would bowl couple of overs in 150-160 km/h and then go back to bowling at 135 km/h he would conserve energy during some spells to bowl really fast in the next over but Brett Lee bowled 150+ literally every ball he bowled. Ricky Ponting once said this in an interview

@@niranjannair3633 I have watched Pakistan cricket my whole life and I remember watching Shoaib Akhtar bowl and your talking absolute rubbish ... Akhtar rarely used to bowl below 90 mph especially in ODIs I don't know where you got your figures from but its the worst bit of math's I've ever seen especially since India has never really had a bowler who could bowl at those speeds regularly. In fact if you bowled 75 mph in the 90's you would probably end up in the Indian national side so to see such ridiculous comments are farcical in themselves ... That was the peak period of ODI era. For me 2003 was the most painful WC. Although I was in class 3 at that time but I still have some clear memories of that world cup, final match especially. When Australia scored massive 350 something in the finals ,entire locality was bashing and blaming Ganguly for not opting to bat first after winning the toss. And when India came out to chase the mammoth total Glenn McGrath got rid off the Master with a short ball and my mother switched off the TV......... :^) good memories.

Today's fast bowlers hardly hit 143 kmph, which was probably Shoaib Akhtar's slowest delivery and batters would be happy if he bowled that slow.😂

Oh man. The cricket in those days was fierce, intimidating and eventful. Just cracking contest against the bests which I unfortunately don’t feel the same since a decade. May be these days it’s just more batting friendly and hence the competition between bat and bowl is not even.

@@White742that's becoz he came from a generation where wicket keeper was not required to have good batting credentials, job of wicket keeper during that time was to do keeping and then score some fast runs. You can check any wicket keeper that time be it nayan mongia, Ian Healey non of them had good batting credentials. It is only after Adam ghilchirst, sangakara came wicket keeper cum batsmen term came.
