Wild life photographers have strict professional standards to not directly engage with wildlife. No petting, no feeding, etc.., they typically just lay there until the animal loses interest.
Cat and dog. It does use its paw in some cases, but going after the stick and chomping / tasting what looks to be a giant eye on this persons foot. Looks quite playful... It would've been nice if a stick was handle to let it grab the stick and see if it would bring it back.
My mom had a red fox that would come to her office to hang out and eat some food. She worked at a lumber company so there were lots of critters in the wood piles for the fox to eat. It didn't have mange as it was really friendly and approached my mom and her coworkers with no aggression. He just liked to come chill for like an hour then head back off.
Awe that’s cute. I bet he was like their mascot heh and that your mom would tell the new guy about the fox but they wouldn’t believe it until the fox came by. What a nice story thanks for sharing
@@n1ppe What's so stupid about seeing a small animal and wanting to pet it? You're obviously a clown to make that comment. Most people love small furry animals that look docile. Yes, I know it isn't and it's a wild animal but that doesn't stop you from feeling a certain way.
Seeing as that is an Arctic fox, you actually wouldn't need to sit that still for one to get that close to you. Arctic foxes are known for stealing from polar bears, a human isn't that scary in comparison (at least to an animal that doesn't understand the concept of a gun)
This is exactly the same type of situation that caused the domestication of wolves into our best doggos hundreds of years ago. Some of them were like "oh human you seem neat" and stuck around long enough for us to love them and change their opinions on us. The foxes are next LOL
Man, I can get why people would want a fox pet, but do we really want to do that? I have guinea pigs and I love em, but I can't help feel like we're like children who just want more things, bc we're not satisfied with the options we have. Foxes are adorable, but it's like, why do you want to do that to them? Why do you want to subjugate and control _another_ species, just so you can be amused and feel loved? Don't we have enough of those? Isn't it just selfish at this point? We already have "exotic animals", where people capture em and breed em from who knows where just to fill the markets-- sometimes to the point of extinction. We don't even have the excuse of using them as hunting partners like we did w/ dogs or cats, we just want em 'cuz they're cute and quirky. And even when we domesticated dogs and cats, we immediately treated em like shit and took them for granted. Like y'know, eventually, we'll have "fox mills", and starving foxes, and people abusing their foxes, except it's way worse because we took away their autonomy just so we could have another option at the pet store. And I guarantee that it's just because people want to feel special for having a unique "pet" like a fox. But hey, at least you'll get a fox running up to you and loving you unconditionally! No choice of its own tho, since it will be _bred_ to love you unconditionally, and rely solely on you. I'm hoping, though, that this time it'll be different since we have better knowledge and different beliefs. Bc honestly, domesticating them was inevitable. I just hope that they won't be eventually taken for granted and abused, too, like we do to all other things we call ours.
@@Kimo0tJJ don't get me wrong, i wouldn't mind having a pet fox in the future because they're fuckin adorable, but what's the cost, y'know? what will it mean for domestic foxes? I'm just reluctant to the idea of it. we have a penchant for ruining good things
It's better we should just admire them from afar and leave them alone to be wild and free. I actually don't mind those who take in and care for rescued or permanently injured foxes because those foxes won't be able to survive in the wild anymore. What I can't support are people who force healthy foxes to be domesticated and keep them as pets just coz they're cute and that they have something to brag to their peers. We have a variety of dogs and cats and farm animals and such that have already been domesticated to choose from. The Shiba Inu kinda looks like a fox so why not just settle with that? Some of y'all gush about how amazing it would be to keep foxes and y'all get so caught up in the excitement but when the going gets rough y'all get tired and abandon them until they die of starvation. Shows just how superficial the desire is to want them as pets. Sorry but I'll pass. Seeing them living as wild animals and not being chained by humans brings me more joy and satisfaction than the latter.
Seriously, the self-control this guy has is admirable. You know if you tried to pet it it would run and the interaction would be ruined, but... So soft and fluffy.
Foxes are not domesticated and don't act like dogs the closest to domesticated is tame meaning it won't attack you and is comfortable near humans but it is far from domestic
If you like foxes then you would probably want to go to the Zao Fox Village in Japan. It's exactly what you'd think from the name and is a place with tons of foxes, ones the you can feed and even hold and pet too.
You really nailed the contrast and detail on this given the extremely challenging lighting conditions. You really shot that fox individual hairs like a boss. Really professional work.
I believe it must have figured the shoe was a part of the man and the camera was just *on* the man. It didn't want to bite the guy 'cause that might make him retaliate, but the disconnected object was fair game.
Most Animals, Especially Mammals, can tell the difference between Themselves, Some-Object and Someone. Also a lot of Quadrupeds use the action of Pawing and Mouthing, to investigate things and to Socialise :) I Imagine the Fox wanted to be friends with the 'Big Thing', Aha

@@Toppu well, the previous guys explained it. In this line of work where you have to be around wildlife, you have to strictly provide no interactions with any wildlife whatsoever and remain completely neutral to the eyes of the wildlife to not create some unwanted response from the animals around. For example, you can see wildlife photographer such as the one you see in this video give no attention to the fox and remain static while the fox plays with him. Another common example is in wildlife documentary, it is uncommon not to see a documentary without the team just sit in a 4 wheeler while pointing a camera a baby girrafe getting mauled by a pack of lions. That person must have been sitting so still for so long. I commend their patience.
It has been experimented that foxes are only a few generations from complete domestication (like, floppy ears and all)
Man, I can get why people would want a fox pet, but do we really want to do that?
@@Cheshieruu Well said. Very well said 👍
@@Kimo0tJJ
don't get me wrong, i wouldn't mind having a pet fox in the future because they're fuckin adorable, but what's the cost, y'know? what will it mean for domestic foxes?
There is one thing we universally thought of:

What do you mean?
@@Toppu in wildlife you do not interact with them. if they come to you you try to stay completely neutral. there was this one guy though who was used as a pillow by a load of walrus and they got pretty tight while he was there
It's Hella stressful though... Like imagine being in the north of Russia looking for wolfs and foxes to photo, and than a bear comes along...like it's just seams like such a high risk job
I mean, why would someone be fired for petting a wild fox? That policy is a complete nonsense imo.
However there's an exception for conservation, they work in a total different way but I'm sure you can find out yourself. Have a nice day
