  • Wrens are so often heard but not seen, and for me, especially Bewick's. In this video, the loudly buzzing Bewick immediately appeared for me, and while there are parts where he's stepped into shadows, he reappears multiple times for me in great lighting with nice details. You can even see him buzzing! Then, there was this OTHER bird, in addition to the House Finch which you can hear and see (in shadows). I focus in on the mystery bird, which has a dramatic black eye mask and a SUPER long beak.

Mystery bird at 3:41- in fork of tree, and I zoom in. Look at the beak! Because of eye mask I had originally thought it was a Red Breasted Nuthatch, but we determined it had to be a Hummingbird. The ones in my area, it was hard to find any with the dark over the eye, but the Ruby Throated in Sibley's has it. I had originally thought it could be Costa's, which has been seen in a neighboring county due to the coloration really looks similar as well as the color around eye, but the ornithologist I asked said it was super unlikely and the shadowing in video meant we couldn't go by the colors since shadow affects color appearance.
I hope you enjoy this cute video of buzzing wrens, cheery finches, and the mystery bird.
