So long as your card you’re using doesn’t charge international transaction fees you’re good using them to top up (I’m in Japan now and can confirm that’s the case!)

on the topic of powerbanks, they can be rented at convenience stores and selected shops and all you need is an app! the most I paid for this service was 900 yen for almost 48 h of rental, not bad at all imho

If im not using the train for more than 5x a day, I don't even get a suica card. I just buy a ticket/token everytime i have to. It doesn't even take that long. Easier to dispose of unnecessary coins too.

thats not true, suica cards are linked to credit cards, if your cc does not charge international transaction fees, you WILL NOT be charged
