      @@CoffeeandCraftswithRory Good point and good idea! I had googled it to see if there were blades available, because I didn't want to get one if it meant I had to buy a new one each time. But with replacement blades available that's much better! Thank you for the demo- much easier than it first appears to be.

    Tools like this have been available as long as I can remember. I have one since the 70’s. They were sold in art stores. They are metal and are Exacto brand with replaceable blades. I was a commercial artist and used it to cut film from an acetate backing. I never could get the hang of using it and preferred a fixed blade. I still have it today.

    • @CoffeeandCraftswithRory

      I have probably 5 Exacto knives right now, one of which was my father's from the 60s lol.. I just can't twist my wrist in some ways to get the same smooth round cuts that this does for me... Thank you! I saw this on another video (didn’t watch that one) but yours was featured today, so I couldn’t pass up watching it. While I have a Cricut, I don’t want to invest in dies or die-cutting machines, & I don’t think there’s a way to have my Cricut fussy cut out specific images from ready-made items, so I definitely want to try this. I think the biggest challenge for me will be ensuring I can see where I need to cut as I go - seems to possibly obscure sight line but of course you were looking at yours at a different view. Thanks again! 🙂🙂

    I saw them being demonstrated at a craft show and I tried it while the demonstrator was busy with another customer. I just couldn't manage it at all, but then I realised the other customer was enthralled, because the demonstrator gave them an adhesive mat that came in a kit they were selling and it worked better for her than for me. That said, I still can’t get it to work smoothly to cut around curves the way you do. I haven’t a clue what I am doing wrong, maybe too much pressure? Thank you for the inspo and perhaps someday I’ll learn whatever magic you clearly already have.

      Hello, Mel... Lol... I wish I could do that for everyone who's still struggling with it even after watching my video.. Unfortunately my studio isn't big enough! 😂
      Here's alittle tip about going around curves.. Don't don't don't tilt it when you start into a curve.. It's only going to skip out of the groove you've started and frustrate you.. Keep it at a 90° angle at all times and keep going at the same pressure. Btw, I'm going to do a follow up video on this to answer a bunch of questions and I'll be trying it out on a Cricut sticky mat! We'll see how that works out! 🤣Thank you for your questions and I hope to see you at the Live Stream later today! Love ya! 😁💖

    I bought one of these about a Yr ago as I have fibromyalgia and my hands get very sore but I found it difficult to use, I don't know if I just need more practice or if I'm doing it wrong but I will have to try again now I've watched ur video x

      I've got fibro too so my suggestion is don't hold it too tightly just firmly.. And with fibro don't use any thing for too long because at you know you'll regret 3 days later.. What I do is one page of fussy cuts, take a break, another page, take a break.. so on and so on... Even if I can only get thru half a page, I'll take a break.. This is supposed to be fun not torture lol.. Just hold it like a pen and your going to be fine... Best of luck and Happy Crafting! 😁💖

      Another fibro person here. I have this cutter and was struggling with it. I think using it with a self healing mat is the key.
      I do have an exact cutter that swivels 360 degrees and I love that .
      And I agree, doing a little and then taking a break is so important when you have fibro.

      @@CoffeeandCraftswithRory How hard do you have to press?

    • @CoffeeandCraftswithRory
      @CoffeeandCraftswithRory  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MarciEllsworth it depends on the thickness of the paper and if you want to cut all the way thru.. I originally bought mine to cut out stickers but leave them on the backing so you would only have to peal them off the sheet.. That takes a light touch versus cutting all the way thru to make just a free piece.. It's not that hard really as long as it's used on a mat and doesn't get dull..( Of course it will get dull over time but not as quickly) Just play around with it on different paper and see how it works before you use it on anything of value lol.. Some people are heavier handed than others.. The important thing to remember is to hold the piece down closely where your cutting so it doesn't tear your picture.. Again it's gotta be sharp and on a mat to work properly but it does work great! Hope this answers your question but if not let me know, I'm happy to help! Happy Crafting, Marci! 😁💖

    I can split a hair with an x-acto knife. Who needs a crickit. Who needs a knife you need to get a new one when it gets dull. Buy x-acto blades in 100 blade packs pennies per blades. You can get small cutting boards at Dollar Tree. I got 2, glued them back to back and put it into my tool box. Comes in handy. Why double up on the boards? To give them more strength so they will not snap.

    • @CoffeeandCraftswithRory
      @CoffeeandCraftswithRory  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're absolutely correct, Jane, who needs A Cricut when you have these types of less expensive tools. I only use exacto knives for trimming something straight because my wrist doesn't contort the way it should to get smooth curves when fussy cutting for prolonged periods of time... And many people with RA or arthritis have the same issue.. The self healing mats keep these sharper longer and yes you can buy replacement blades for them as well.. I just bought a new one for the packaging 😉👍.. Thanks for all your tips tho , for those who have problems using this tool! So glad you watched and commented! Happy Crafting! 😁💖
