Amboy Dukes - "Journey to the Center of the Mind" - Detroit Music Awards 2009

  • The most anticipated song of The Amboy Dukes Reunion trilogy from the 2009 Detroit Music Awards. "Journey to the Center of the Mind" is a fan favorite like no other and you could tell Ted certainly appreciated that fact. He played with reckless abandon and tongue wagging swashbuckling demeanor only Ted Nugent could muster. Steve Farmer also got into the tongue wagging spirit of the moment.
The lighting and staging at The Fillmore in Detroit was superb. Kudos to The Motor City Music Foundation for putting on a great show with first class atmosphere.
The Amboy Dukes featured Ted Nugent on lead guitar, Andy Solomon on Hammond B 3, Rick Lober keyboards, Steve Farmer rhythm guitar, Jim Butler drums, John Drake lead vocal, Bill White bass.
Shot and edited with high definition micro cams dispersed throughout the theater by Kenny Crimewave, Julie Pulgini and Dan Boyd Wizard of Livonia

People like Turd Nugent and his buddy TRUMP were doing all they could do to AVOID being drafted and they were and still are just cowards. The times were also strained by the War in Viet Nam though. There was a LOT of racism in those days yet not as bad as in the 60's. Music was a medium to break those barriers. Jimi Hendrix was more my style and was NOT a coward like Turd Nugent.

Nugent later got religion and of course a huge TRUMP supporter. And that was no surprise from this sexist racist. Always knew that Turd Nugent was and still is an extreme psycho that religion never helped him be compassionate. Just another dumb ass Trump supporter. Alice Cooper also finally got religion too after being a drunk for so long just like Rick Derringer. Nugent just raped girls and then got religion. Smh.... yet Great times in music yet they should have kept their mouths CLOSED regarding their politics. Nugent is a COWARD even if a gun freak.

Nugent was their boy wonder back when this came out. He's obviously about 7-10 years younger than the rest of these guys. He was a teenager when he started with them.

With the alarmingly high mortality rate amongst pioneering rockers in recent years, it is an absolute blessing to see a visionary and indispensible band persevering with their artistic integrity intact. God bless the Amboy Dukes! Excesses and peccadilloes notwithstanding, it is a blessing to still have them among us.

Like to have seen this . Seen Ted three times. The first time i was second row. When he existed the stage he put his guitar on a stand and it hummed loud as hell. When i got to my car, about 200 yards away. OUTSIDE. I could still here it.

Nuge seems to improve with age, like fine wine. Great job, Ted!!! I dug this song back in '68 when I was in the sixth grade, and you could say that guitarists Leslie West, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and Nuge got me hooked on the rock and roll back then.

Fretless99 Their studio stuff was killer back in the day. On this vid, they did come apart a little bit, but they pulled it back together. Not everybody can come out of retirement after decades and play it perfect. I'm guessing Ted's guitar was so loud the singer couldn't hear himself too well. At least they gave it a shot - that's cool!

  • @cigarmerchant2238

What a great performance from The Amboy Dukes, thanks for posting this vid. With the likes of who gets inducted these days to the RRHOF, Uncle Ted's exclusion doesn't hold a hill of beans to his talent and importance to rock and roll. Who needs the Hall anyway. I saw The Dukes in 1970 at The Atlanta Municipal Auditorium, it was my second concert after Alice Cooper. Saw Ted Nugent play one day, so satisfied I saw him play.
