- The Amboy Dukes was an American rock music band of the late 1960s and early 1970s from Detroit, Michigan, best remembered for their one hit single "Journey to the Center of the Mind." The band went through a number of personnel changes during its active years, the only constant being lead guitarist Ted Nugent. Bassist Greg Arama died in 1979. The group contributed to the foundations of heavy metal and progressive rock.
And this guy is the epitome of Hardcore Kick-Ass rock and roll. I've been listening to Uncle Ted for pretty close to 50 years. Rock on brotha! 🇺🇸👊

Those were the days. Got this 45 out of a cereal box. Played it till it wore out. Great time to be alive. What a ride its been.
extremely underrated guitar player very scary considering he was only 15 years of age when he recorded Journey to the Center of Your Mind with the Amboy Dukes his guitar playing simply put awesome you can't take that away from him.......

I'm listening now because of Art. In addition to all the guests and topics, his music influenced me immensely. Ride My See Saw, Some Velvet Morning, far too many great songs, across genres, to name. Art was one of a kind.

Been a fan over 45 years. He's truly a one of a kind. I don't listen to him talk. Just only listening when he plays. Sadly his being overly outspoken has done unfair harm to his reputation. Because he's one of the best ever.

Got to love that red white and blue Ted. Born to perform and speaks his mind. He not only is a fantastic guitar player and performer but he believes in America and not giving our selves away to foreign countries or to bowing down and changing the rules for a small immoral vocal minority.

@@flipwright1138 My husband volunteered-ie was not drafted- to serve two terms there, lost his younger brother there (who lied about his age to volunteer)-and he believes that it was a mistake and he holds no grudge against dodgers as long as they’re not of the “America always wrong” variety. This country has made mistakes, like every country. But we’ve tried to do right in our short history, for the most part.

@profnasty Sorry to dissapoint you, but Ted supported Bush and the Iraq war, and when he went to Iraq to play for the US forces there he told an interviewer that the only mistake the US did in Iraq was "not to Nagasaki them". I still think he s a terrific musician and I love his music and guitar playing but a lot of this man s views are impossible to bear with and at times just straight out outrageous. But we have to learn to separate the art from the artist.
Mike Lutz formerly of Brownsville Station toured with Ted Nugent in the 1990’s and is playing bass in this video.

What a great performance from The Amboy Dukes, thanks for posting this vid. With the likes of who gets inducted these days to the RRHOF, Uncle Ted's exclusion doesn't hold a hill of beans to his talent and importance to rock and roll. Who needs the Hall anyway. I saw The Dukes in 1970 at The Atlanta Municipal Auditorium, it was my second concert after Alice Cooper. Saw Ted Nugent play one day, so satisfied I saw him play.

Alan Holdsworth was likely among the best guitarists that ever walked but I still didn't care for most of his compositions.

It always cracks me up when people take whatever he's saying at any given time at face value. The guy doesn't take himself too seriously and has a hilarious sense of humor where he says things that are purposefully hyperbolic or exaggerated. For some people that goes straight over their head. He's a passionate dude with crazy every who loves having fun and joking around. Crazy laid back and friendly. If you see him at a guitar convention stop by and say hi. I did and he'll pull you aside and shoot the shit for a long time. He's always got time for fans and chatting if you share any passions with him like hunting, guitars, etc. The dude gets off on interacting with his fans and putting on a good show and having fun. Never seen him in a bad mood after he gets off stage.

Saw him in Greensburg, PA and Clearfield Co Fair, PA and his farewell tour has as much energy as the first few times I ever saw him!! Then there's our mutual love of 10mm handguns and grilled venison tenderloin......all fun as well!!

I met Ted one time years ago. Clean cut my A$$. I sneaked into one of his Chicago shows. I was standing back stage smoking a Doobie. I couldn't believe my eyes. A tall guy with long hair runs up: quick, let me have that. I'm on in 5 minutes and I need a buzz. I gave it to him. It was Ted. I was left standing there scratching my head. 😂
