How To Activate "Police Chaser Mode"!

- I have done a video on the before, but this is a little more in depth.
I show how to put your EF or EL Falcon dash display into diagnostic mode, or as some call it "police chaser mode". For ex police cars that have the chaser dash, there is actually a slightly different procedure that puts it into chaser mode. My Car isn't an ex cop car, but I can do a video on it if people want to know how to do that.

The diagnostic mode can be entered by using the following method
1) With the ignition key in the off position, press and hold the Odometer reset knob for 10 seconds.
2) whilst holding the button in, switch the ignition to the on position. (Note : It is not necessary to start the car).
3) With the ignition on, press the odometer button 3 times in quick succession.
4) On the third press, hold the odometer button down, until the Seatbelt lamp is no longer illuminated.
5) The Odometer should blank out. After a period of 10 seconds, the display will flash FORD
6) Press the Odometer button again to go to the first Diagnostic mode
To view the next diagnostic mode, press the Odometer button for about 1 second
To view the previous diagnostic modes, press and hold the Odometer button for about 2 second
To Exit the Diagnostic mode, hold the Odometer Button until the Odometer display returns to normal
The Diagnostic mode will reset itself after driving for a few minutes, not sure how many minutes but it's not long. Note - the tacho and speedo will both read zero for a second while it resets as they're both fed by a digital signal.
It isn't police mode. It is diagnostic mode all ef and el clusters have access to diagnostic mode.
Opt20 clusters have a speedo adjust mode.
Correct, this is diagnostic mod which has some other features. The items them I didn't know are some sort of diagnostic, the other features are just cool nice to have things. Pretty cool to discover this stuff. As you said, ex police cars have a different cluster and you can active police mode on them using a different technique. I might do a video on that for people with Opt20 clusters! 👌
Thanks for reminding me of that diagnostic mode.
Might have to check my workshop manual to see if it gives a full description of all the diagnostic readouts.
FYI ... the actual Police cluster for EF/EL has much finer line graduations on the speedo dial.
Hi, most police cars come with 1km increments on the speedo as part of the police pack - this goes back to HQ days, they did have prior to that a seperate large speedo mounted under the days like we use to mount tacho
With valiants VH-CL, the original speedo even had calibrated / service date stickers on the back
@@georgemaragos2378 - I've only seen photos of an EF/EL Police cluster with the 1km increments, makes sense that most Police cars had finer graduations on the speedo.
We usually call that "Engineering Mode" here in the States.
I think people call it police mode if you have an ex cop car with the police cluster, it has a few more functions that the police did actually use.
Love your work
Thanks mate, cool trick not many people know about!
Thanks for the video, mate.
No worries mate! 👍
I totally appreciate your videos... viewing from South Africa. I had a 97 Futura absolute gem of a car ...kick myself for selling
Thanks so much mate, means a lot and motivates me to make more! South Africa was one of only a few countries that got our great cars!
I have an NL fairlane, same dash, tickford motor (is a concorde).
I successfully reset the trip meter 😂
Maybe Fairlane is different?
The guide I followed said it was for EF/EL Falcon, XR, Fairmont Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Mode
lets gooooooooooo lol never knew this car had this mode, the fuel consumption is a must for me lol
Yeah, pretty cool they came with this, but funny no one knows about it!
Had a EF futura for 16yrs. Got rid of it because of head gasket leak and auto flaring and thumping shifts. Also wish id kept it
Sounds familiar! Have replaced the head gasket and the auto thumps into 2nd after I've driven it more then 40min. Lucky I rarely drive longer than 30min in it! Haha
So I’m getting is only a XR thing ? you got me wondering about my series 1 XR XH manual Ute now I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Cool video man thanks
Not sure it will work, as the utes still had the ED cluster didn't they?
@@efxr6538 Narr xh same as Ef el
Ok, so the cluster is the same, just the dashboard looks different?
@@efxr6538 yep identical cluster, yes
Ok cool, I have seen a guy put an EF/EL dash into an XH XR8, big job but turned out pretty sweet! 👌
Is this only for autos?
I think you can do it for manuals, but not 100% sure.
@@efxr6538 my XR8 is manual and it works
Great stuff!
How much extra "horse power" do you get in POLICE mode.
Gotta be like 50? 🤣
I remember guys with ex police VL Turbos used to think they had like double the power of a standard VL! Haha
Is 2:59 really gear position mode or is it P for Police mode ??😂
I think this is more of a diagnosis mode for mechanics. But thanks for the video. Anyway. Didn’t know the. EF/ EL series falcons had this, we all know the Commodore diagnosis mode…
Yeah, P for police mode, gives you an extra 50HP! 🤣
Ive got some drawings explaining how to do all this.
Oh cool! Do you know what all the diagnostic modes are?
Nut didn’t work on my Ute
The guide I found says it's for Ford EF/EL Falcon, XR, Fairmont Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Mode
🥝✔️
Kiwi approved? 😁
@@efxr6538 Yes, everything checked out. Nice one! Or nice half one ..
Haha, cheers mate!

Just had a haircut last night! 🤣
