  • What was originally meant to be B1 61306 'Mayflower' leading on this 'Welsh Marches Express' charter from Bournemouth to Shrewsbury today didn't quite turn out that way.
A line blockage at Taunton prevented 'Mayflower' from joining on at Bristol Temple Meads for the run up to Shrewsbury, resulting in 47805 leading the charter instead with 57311 on the back end of the train as they pass through Pontypool & New Inn station.
However, despite the unexpected change in power, it worked out well for me because I really love the sounds that a Class 47 diesel locomotive can produce when on a charter. B1 'Mayflower' would later travel light engine to Shrewsbury, and take the railtour back down for the return steam leg as planned.
