Sarathkumar explaining how a web series could be a calling card to doing an international film/ series is a very logical and well thought out strategy.
Across industries in the last 8-10 years, we have seen people from across the globe working together. And getting new careers when they least expect it. The main factor is to have a strong digital presence.
While people can find fault with him for a lot of things (my favourite is when he blamed Lisa Ray for the failure of 'Nethaji' 25 years ago!), you have to appreciate him for pursuing a lot of his interests.
Vedan movie is my favorite film of him -- such an underrated movie

One thing is true. Sharath once was in a shoot in gobichettypalayam. One fellow came in cycle, sharath stopped him and asked for lift. The point is, he made him sit in front and he rode the bicycle 😅

Sarathkumar has his flaws and huge ego, but he's also extremely confident on his beliefs and a good orator. He speaks with great conviction even when he makes controversial remarks (e.g - do you know who is Sarathkumar vs Kamalhassan during Nadigar sangam polls few years ago)

A very good interview indeed . Used to love Sarath Kumar movies, but with politics and nadigar sangam controversy lost interest in him and his movies !! Good actor though, no doubts about it
Let me disagree with Mr Rangan on SOORIYAN character. Sooriyan is tough, dare devil, patriotic, and heroic- but he does not show off his machoness anywhere. He is a true gentleman. In fact, he is a very soft character.
Director Pavithran was in top form at that point in time. He never let Sarath go out of the character even once in the whole film. Sooriyan was pushed into such circumstance. He never had any other option but fight.
There was a scene where a terrifying bandit comes in a horse and commands Suriyan to move away to make way for him. Sooriyan never goes for Vetti sandai, he quietly obeys and make way for the horse rider. Sooriyan even gets slapped by Roja's character. Even when he retorts by shouting, 'everyone has selt esteem', there is a cry in it.
In fact, Shankar faithfully followed the decent character of Sooriyan for his main character Kicha and even named the movie, 'Gentleman'. Sooriyan was forced into marriage by his step mother and in first night, he goes out of the house and listen to Saravana bhava. 😁 Then Roja comes out and say, 'what kind of a man you are' and pulls him back into house and scenes cuts to 'pathinettu vayassu' song.
I don't know how Pavithran came up with the concept. The script is written by him. It looks like a work of a very well read, knowledgeable man. And nobody knew what happened to Pavithran after Kalluri Vasal. Even mediocre guys like Sundar C and K S Ravikumar still gets to make films but Pavithran is just forgotten. In 90s, after Sooriyan, he was well known for movie goers even in Kerala. His films used to come with the tag, Pavithran's. If possible, please do an interview him. He came up with brahamnda movie concept which Shankar further developed. DNA of big Shankar films is in Sooriyan. But Shankar never talks about Pavithran. Looks like they are not on good terms. Shankar produced films for almost all his assistants. Pavithran had no film for almost two decades but there is no collaboration between them.

Good interview, but one quick suggestion to Baradwaj ji is that you are asking fantastic questions but why do you struggle to ask it directly. I mean you beat around the bush and flatter a lot which in my opinion is not necessary. I won't think anyone will take you wrong if your questions are correct.
