    Something about this beef has made me feel so validated and reignited my feelings of pride in my people and how we express ourselves I don’t really know how to describe it. The fact that it was nonviolent and that Kendrick destroyed Drake with superior POETRY and strategy while also calling him out for being predatory was also great to see because it disrupts all the negative stereotypes that Drake has been pushing about us for years in my opinion. Kendrick reaffirmed that catharsis, healing, unity, and authenticity is actually the end goal in spite of the trauma many of us have faced. It makes me feel like we will be alright. It feels like the culture has needed this.

    Kendrick represents the inner; psychological-emotional side, Drake, the outer - social image, ego projection. Polar opposites like water and fire - Drake being fire, Kendrick - water. These two manifest the same dichotomy which esixts within every hybrid human - soul / ego. This is why it resonates within the subconscious of those enthralled.

    Thank you so much for sharing about this. I love the fact that one of the most effective disses in this beef was about the mistreatment of younger women. It seemed like a post Me Too rap battle (Tarana Burke changed the world).
    Drake's response to being called an abuser was to bash people who have been traumatized, incidentally also pointing that criticism towards his fans who are mostly women. He doesn't even "give back" in the sense of considering how his words will effect even his own fans.

    Devi I absolutely love your take on this, so eloquently put. Drake thinks it's all because he's Biracial. This couldn't be further from the truth (we love J Cole). My belief is that Drake doesn't know who he is but he has a deep desire to be accepted. But instead of being authentic he would rather mimic what he thinks being part of the culture is. Once again, it's not about your white mother, or your dad that wasn't involved. It's about you. Kendrick has given him an opportunity to sit back analyze why this happened, and hopefully do better going forward (if his ego will allow him).

    I found Kendrick when I was 26 years old at his Coachella 2012 performance with Dr. Dre. I will never forget the impact that had on me. I went back and heard his Overly Dedicated + Section 80. projects. I fell in love with his music. As a spiritual women, I loved his connection to the cosmos, his introspective lyrics, his depth and ability to convey such a positive perspective on real life. One of my favorite features he had at that time was Stay Ready by Jhene Aiko. The way he broke down the cosmic connection between a man and women but still keeping it gangsta...I was just mind-blown! He became my favorite artist after that. The way Kendrick has grown has been a blessing to witness as a listener and fan. I'm so proud of the man he has evolved into. We are all flawed but he owns his faults and that is vital for soul growth.
    I like Drake, but it's very empty for me. Astrologically, he is a baby soul that signed up for this moment to assist his self-growth. I hope it doesn't land in vain for him and that he actually does the work after this. Wish them both well.

    This is actually the exact type of discussion I want to hear about this "beef". As a longtime Kendrick fan he's always had an overarching theme to his music of artistic integrity vs popularity/fame. The temptation to sell out is ever present in his lyrics. Even the interlude "Buried Alive" that he did on Drake's album Take Care is basically a metaphor for this battle within himself and how he sees Drake's life and success as temptation

    It feels like they're representative of the 2 roads to riches man. You're either born with it and you allow it to become your identity or you build an identity along the way and realise that the real "riches" isn't in the riches itself but the journey and experience and character it takes to even start progressing beyond where you're at currently and to then develop it and create spaces for everyone to uncover their personal freedom and riches. The fact that they've collided makes complete sense and I'm deeply thankful for the time you've taken to speak on it. Because you did it not to pick a a winner but to identify what needs to be learnt from it that likkle meditation at the end🥺😭 this was so meaningful thank you

    The idea of them being reincarnation nemesis' was a cool take, blew my mind. That alone holds so much heaviness to the battle that I never heard anyone speak of before
    I really like that you spoke on Drake's approach in this battle and how it was harmful and revealing of his character
    15:32 "It's less about the two of them as men and for me it's more about the greater story being told and the greater concepts that are being made available to us by witnessing that kind of epic battle unfold ... Where are we giving away power. Where are we making ourselves weaker. Where are we empowering other people to cause harm."
    Kendrick's lyric this reminds me of "To any woman that be playin' his music, know that you're playin' your sister
    Or better, you're sellin' your niece to the weirdos, not the good ones"
    It must take a lot of work editing in relevant clips from their music videos, appreciate it and your unique perspective

    I’ve been seeking a channel for healing in my language. As an example;
    I moved back East from LA in ‘10. It’s hard to admit how humbling this experience was for me. How cathartic.
    To grapple with the contortions my logic needed to make to find myself in, and thus rooting for Drake at the onset.
    Still seeing yourself in Drake specifically and limited to “being outside the culture” or feeling eternally at a distance from my own culture, is something I wouldn’t wish on an enemy, if I had any.
    Peace and Love Sis, nice to meet you.

At some point, I needed to stop consuming hip-hop for my own wellbeing and mental health. The lack of social responsibility is what killed me, especially around mysoginoir and the suffering of children. The human experience is so nuanced, and I appreciate the complexity this moment in music history has introduced to the conversation. I'm cautiously hopeful that we continue to wake up past this moment.

    This has really put into words my thoughts on this whole beef and why I’ve been so drawn to it. I’ve always been a K. Dot fan and side-eyed drake over the years as I learned more about him. Watching this was cathartic for some inner pain I had never been able to work through about people who had hurt me in the past, and just like previous projects of Kendrick, helped me heal through them. When this began I was honestly really excited because I knew Kendrick was the only person who could take down Drake where it mattered, which is exactly the ways you described. His victory gave me hope for the future and inspired me to look into myself. I’m so thankful for that, and thank you for the meditation at the end!

    Drake forgot the most important thing…you are not supposed to really hate women, envy men and love money…in real life. His life began to reflect his vapid, creepy lyrics. And that is a problem.
    At age 40, he should have known not to go up against a man who is the exact opposite of you, and is surrounded by so much LOVE.

  • @imagoblack
    @imagoblack 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This battle is a mirror showing us ourselves! If you identify with one artist and not the other, the artist you identify with represents the part of yourself you have accepted and love and the other artist represents the parts of yourself you reject and hate. If you identify with both artists you fully embrace and love yourself and others unconditionally; the good, the bad, and the ugly.
    At that point you can realize self mastery because all parts of yourself are available to you and you can choose to use any part to fit what any situation calls for. Kendrick demonstrated this at a high level. Kendrick used his light and dark sides masterfully to tell the story he wanted to tell to the public subconscious. Drake is who Drake is, but Kendrick made people think Drake is who Kendrick says he is. People now see Drake through the eyes that Kendrick gave them and not their own.

I was so Happy That we are Everything that is Great, no matter what we always Rise!All the easter eggs are subjective, i love that in Kendrick's music! He wants US to think! Whatever you took from it, in simple terms, it was Soul Food! As is all his Music! He is really a Genius! 💯

    Love your perspective. Seems like Drake’s emotional intelligence is stunted. Kendrick’s IQ must be off the charts. Thank you for this.

    this makes me feel hopeful. i've been obseving the wave and energy of the world overall for the last decade and strongly believe we've come to a crossroad. the next 3-5yrs will be crucial in the spiritual and psychological warfare that's been raging.
    with project 2025, zionism, the various industries poisoning us literally and figuratively, ongoing colonalism and imperialism we needed a kdot moment to know that we have a fighting chance in this because this bigger picture has resonated with a lot of ppl. it feels like we're in the middle of the divergent series and we aware ones have to find each other and fast.

    I wanna mention how Drake is more than just ego and materialism. He was one of the rappers who made it OK to get personal and wear your heart on your sleeve in an industry of machismo and gangster rap, and continued to do so despite criticism and mockery. That's definitely worth applauding. If we are to honor emotional vulnerability, then we need not forget that when we talk about Drake. Are there songs especially in recent years where he sounds overly petty, sure. The man clearly needs to rethink his priorities in the toxic industry that he's apart of.

    Damm !!!(pun intended 😁) I couldn't concur with you MORE! Kendrick is determined to project light and love from The Messiah, even during a rap battle. Where Drake in contrast has chosen,frivolous energy/the darkside 😈

    had to double back on this video bcuz it's so good and to say that that karmic battle is no joke. but i feel like kendrick like nipsey has completed his journey with the work he has done and this lifetime might very well be his final. drake def will be back but most likely won't battle kendrick but something/someone else.
    it's fascinating to witness from these lens and i am working on myself to really not come back either. but this def feels like kendrick's last hoorah.

    transcending race... this is ego vs spirit... and we are probably living in a moment in time in which this cyclical battle is being revealed more clearly in this cycle. And I think people don't really have a choice in picking a side as much as they see things according to their level of awareness... But hearing you speak Devi, makes me confident that we are not few and that... eventually ...we "gon' be alright "
