    Early in your video, I noticed you have a RaceMark steering wheel, a product licensed by Mark Donohue. That is something I would say adds enormous class. I love your video and your attitude. Keep pushing.

      Interesting, I didn’t know Donohue was responsible for those wheels. It’s a great looking wheel. Thanks for the kind words!

    Don't worry too much about the oil on the sparks. When flat engine sit for a long time, the oil can sneak between the piston ring and side wall. If compression is good, you'll get some smoke from it burning off the oil but it will clear up quick. My BMW motorcycle does it when it sits for too long.

      Interesting, I haven’t had a car or bike that’s sat for a really
      Long time. Thanks for the info

    Awesome video. Don't think you find much content even on youtube of end-to-end canvassing of a 912 barn find.

    dude don't sweat this one re oil on the plugs - flat motors drip and burn oil which is why the last for 1Million miles - yours looks very strong so enjoy it, run it and through away the rear view mirror

      What does dripping and Burning oil have to do with long lasting engines haha. Thanks man!

    Since you have a lift, I'd drop the motor and trans and just have it sent out for rebuild. Because that will take some time.

    • @michaelgideon6422
      @michaelgideon6422  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dropped the motor and trans already. If it needs a rebuild I’ll do it. I can build 5 motors before these 1-2 year wait lists

  • @Rich_Lambert
    @Rich_Lambert ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What a cool project. You have to get it running and drive it regardless of the compression numbers.

    • @michaelgideon6422
      @michaelgideon6422  ปีที่แล้ว

      You may be right. I should consider driving even if the numbers aren’t great

    This probably goes without saying, but make sure you are covering the areas that you wire brush with some kind of primer and paint. Otherwise, the bare steel will rust quite quickly.
    I have done a lot of spot repairs to my floor pans and also recommend using naval jelly after the wire wheel as a rust converter to make sure every last bit of corrosion is gone. After that, you can clean with a pre-paint degreaser and the surface is prepped for primer/paint.
    Would also recommend rebuilding rather than replacing as many components as possible. Those original brake calipers for example are higher quality than any modern reproductions that are available. The machining of the bores/pistons on the originals is better and they use harder better quality metal.

    • @michaelgideon6422
      @michaelgideon6422  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will definitely primer these areas once I’ve made patches. Naval Jelly? Interesting. Thanks for the info! You’re totally right on rebuilding everything I can. No doubt I’ll only replace things that are totally necessary. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    @scottshand8559 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are some decent rust inhibitors/converters out there (Eastwood, Rustoleum, etc.), if things feel solid then treating the areas vice grinding, sanding, etc. can be a good workable option. Keeping everything original that you can is a great way to go.

    The turned tach is a nice touch, not sure if you did that but whoever did has likely been around some track machines. This should be a very, very cool project!

    This is what patina dreams are made of. Would you consider putting in that motor that came out of your green targa?

    • @michaelgideon6422
      @michaelgideon6422  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have definitely thought of a 6 cylinder in this car. This is my favorite body style. The car is just so original it’s tough to alter it. If I didn’t care about the originality I’d put a 6 in for sure. Need to think on it more. If the stock motor needs a rebuild maybe I will
