Neonatal resuscitation

Assess tone and cry:
Tone/cry poor → stimulate/warm the patient; suctioning only if required
Good tone/cry can go to parents
If HR less than 100 bpm or patient apneic/gasping:
Begin positive-pressure ventilation with room air
If labored breathing or persistent cyanosis:
Clear airway with supplemental O2
Consider nasal continuous positive airway pressure
If HR less than 60 bpm:
Initiate chest compressions and intubate the patient
Initiate ventilation with 100% O2
If HR still less than 60 bpm:
Administer epinephrine
Consider pneumothorax and hypovolemia
