You know, I actually hate Shadow's characterisation here more than in Rise of Lyric. RoL Shadow was an asshole, yes, but given how little we know of Boom! Shadow's backstory, he probably didn't have the same sort of character development as he did in the main series. Here? It annoys me just how little he cares for his robot teammate, given how much he values Omega, to the point where the entire reason he joins you in Sonic Chronicles is to try and find him (and he even gives Sonic, of all people, a lecture on Omega's value as both an ally and a friend). They made him an asshole in Boom, yes, but here they made him a SELFISH asshole with no other interests than financial gain, something he has never been interested in before, and that, to me, makes it worse.
He even showed Metal Sonic concern when he tried to rip something out of himself in Rivals 2. Even though Metal was a foe Shadow still showed deep concern and told Metal to stop despite him being a robot and not having any emotions or feelings.

Yeah it's really sad and insulting how far Amy's falling from the character she use to be. I mean really Amy? Her main purpose of liking Sonic was she admired him for being the hero that he is and the fact he never holds back.. Well here this game acts like Amy has completely forgotten the reason the likes Sonic in the first place and makes her love for Sonic into an aggressive/abusive hypocritical crush. I miss the old days when Amy (while obsessed with Sonic) did other things despite her obsession. What do I mean? Well back in Sonic Adventure Amy's obsession with Sonic wasn't possessive or hypocritical, but instead she was represented as a fan who admired Sonic as her ldol and wanted to gain her sense of independence for him. In fact the very first thing she does when she sees him is ask him "What's Up?" And to help out an animal in need.. (You even got the sense that he was a jerk to Amy when he ran away) In Adventure 2, while she does fall for Sonic. It's only presented as a mild joke and Amy's tone isn't aggressive at all, it's just a mild joke. Plus it was the first game to play with the joke, so it's forgivable. However during later parts of the game Amy wants to feel included as part of the team and wants to earn her own spot in terms of usefulness. (It was a step down from Adventure 1, but the point is she wanted her own sense of importance to the adventure) Amy was also good in Sonic Heroes too, while her crush on Sonic was more advanced compared to before she had a sense of caring for her friends interest and actually put those interest with her personal goal. (Remember back when Amy and Cream are friends? I do.) She was willing to help her two best friends and even acted as a strong leader to them and pushed them to do their goals. Amy's crush has been flanderized for the sake of a "joke" but don't bother to have the joke make sense, but instead leaves a lot of unfortunate implications about the character. Now her aggressive tone in terms of her crush for Sonic has been made mean spirited and nasty to her friends. What makes this even more sad is the fact this is the first game since Sonic Chronicles that Amy and Cream have interacted with each other, what wasted potential. Amy and Cream's best friend relationship has been vastly underutilized in the Sonic games. Not only do the writers barely bother to use them, but it feels like untapped and wasted potential. They can act as a female duo counterpart to Sonic and Tails.. Which would created a lot of interesting things about the characters, but they never bother exploring their friendship except to bring it up once in a while. And seeing Amy act so characteristically mean to Cream is so wrong! (She was like this in Sonic Rush as well) This game completely ruins every character and forgets their main objectives and how they would normally interact with each other. This game is just an excuse for the voice actors to test random lines from a script, so the writers took the worst aspects of all characters or completely made them OoC for the sake of testing their newest voice cast. Also Shadow's personal goals had no relevance in terms of plot. What I mean is while Shadow had the most interesting stories narrative wise they were always filled with the most flawed or poor story telling and narrative presentation. But his character had relatable goals, in Free Riders he acts greedy for largely no reason.

Dominic Anderson yup..everybody complains about Jason Shadow's voice sounding to edgy when hear he sound just god afwul...EVEN Adventure2 Shadow voice sounded way better.
He's improved a lot since then. The voice doesn't sound as nearly as forced or unbearably scratch. I still prefer Jason's and David's performance, but I do think Kirk's has improved a lot more.

Sonic Riders, while a competent game, also deserves one piece of ironing out - make Sonic & Amy less of moody jerks in the scene where the latter chased the former with her hammer (which SonAmy fans think he deserved because they think he has no respect for women yet gets all the praise compared to any other character in the franchise despite also having impassable flaws like Tails being a coward who plays victim, Knuckles being an egotistical idiot, Amy Rose making Sonic sound like the bad guy for friendzoning him yet entitling herself to do the same thing for her protection, Shadow being a failed edge lord because he exists for the sake of his mean-spirited jokiness). I would defend Sonic after she forced him to love her like usual from 2003 (Sonic X) to 2012 (Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games 3DS), but alas, it’s hard to tell what was going on in his head when he decided to lock Amy Rose inside a tornado. Team Sonic had no personality whatsoever other than the leader with hero complex which would be further exaggerated in later 2010s games (Sonic), the sidekick who used to be his own hero in the Adventure games for the DreamCast (Tails) and the angry tough (or wimpy from the inside) guy (Knuckles). Team Dark (with Metal Sonic, the hidden antagonist of the game in disguise as the third member of Team Dark instead of Omega) and the Babylon Rogues were a bunch of one-dimension mean girl (beta bitch)-like characters. Team Rose was horribly ruined by Amy Rose completely yet unadmittedly underpaying Vector, dismissing Cream despite her talents which is one of those few instances where she had personality besides being a traditionally sweet little girl and giving Sonic all the hate (which she thinks is love, you know, by forgetting her dates even though she should feel empathy for Sonic in case she forgot HIS dates!) after that infamous tornado incident in the original Sonic Riders instead of gearing (no pun intended on Extreme Gear) all that silly rage towards the ones that TRULY deserve it for being (like I said) completely two-dimensional bullies like Team Dark and the Babylon Rogues!

The gameplay would be fine, but the lack of an interesting story would still be present. How in the world does a GameCube and Wii game somehow manage to have animated cutscenes and a concise interesting story, but and Xbox 360 game can't. That's ridiculous and it would never live up to the first two games.

I had such a difficult time in the team heroes finale, it wasn't that the controls were buggy, it was that I'm right handed So I would use use the items with my right hand while he grind enhancement forced me to use my left hand, the race was unbeatable while having the left foot forward. Although I completed the game, the finale was a major "roadblock" for me. Note: the roadblock pun was based on the genre of the game.

Hopefully this game's failure won't discourage Sega from making another game in the series. Maybe Jet's and Wave's inclusion in the new Mario and Sonic game shows that they are still willing to make use of the riders series.

No, I'm serious, I thought it was Amy, Shadow, Tails, and Jet because Sonic, 10000-B because third teammate, Storm because Jet, Wave because Tails, Cream because Amy, Rouge and Vector because money, Sonic because challenge, and Knuckles because Rouge. And here's why... Ever since Adventure 2, there was a rivalry between Sonic and Shadow, Jet is a new rival for Sonic, Amy is STILL trying to get Sonic to marry her, and Tails has been a long time friend. Storm is in it to make his boss proud (and to, and I quote from Wave, not suck). Wave wants to prove that she's better than Tails at making machines. Cream has a sisterly bond with Amy. The rules state that you need three teammates to enter and Rouge just picked 10000-B from the crowd. Speaking of Rouge, she and Vector were in it for the prize. Sonic always says an adventure is no fun if it's too easy. And just like Shadow and Sonic, there has been a long running rivalry between Knuckles and Rouge, even with her CONSTANTLY flirting with him (I mean, just look at Sonic X).
You know it's funny. The guy that does Knuckle's voice now, did Colonel Mustang's voice in Fullmetal Alchemist. His voice as Mustang sounds more like the 4Kids Knuckles than his own Knuckles voice.

Well my theory on how each character sustain themselves and live comfortably with their respective lifestyles: Sonic: Since he was world renowned hero and has saved the world countless times he probably gets free food wherever he goes. Just hop by a Pizzeria or a Chili Dog stand "Oh Sonic, sure anything for you and it's on the house...always". And Sonic probably doesn't have a home so all he needs are food. Tails: Due to the association with Sonic he might get some benefits but if it isn't as much as Sonic he might part time as a mechanic/engineer and make some money on the side doing mechanic shit for payment. Like it's established he has a Shop near the city in SA1. Rouge: Used to and might still work for the government and if not she is a treasure hunter so she is probably fine when it comes to money and housing. Shadow: Is an artificial lifeform thus doesn't need food and probably lives with Rouge Knuckles: Lives on Angel Island alone and thus has all the resources to himself. He probably lives sustainably off cultivating the land for fruits and vegetables. And probably shit Echidna eats as well as the occasion meat. The Chaotix Crew: Work as a detective agency and thus make their money that way and live in their store. Probably don't make much money and are usually struggling. Blaze: She is a princess so she is fine Silver: Since he is from the future it's unknown how his situation is. For all we know society in the future might operate differently or there is unlimited food due to advanced technology and developments so everyone is fed for and have a roof over their heads. Although Silver could have a job or some career in the future or like Sonic probably gets free food due to being an hero. Babylon Rogues: Treasure hunters or bandits. Whatever you think they are. They probably make a lot of money doing whatever they do so they're fine. Vanilla and Cream: Live off the land like Knuckles and are pretty resourceful. The only ones that I don't get are Amy and Eggman. Amy can be resourceful and live off the land like Knuckles. Heroes shows her on a small home at the beach so that is where she lives and not in the big city. So she probably lives rent free in someway. And gets food by being resourceful. She probably has some wealth saved over from doing something. You think Eggman has a lot of money to keep finding his projects but no seriously where is his money coming from. You think an international criminal would have zero normal means of making money. Screw where Eggman gets food (probably have his robots steal food and accumulate it for him). How does Eggman get the money to keep doing this stuff especially when Sonic keeps destroying his shit? The only solution would be he was given some huge inheritance and/or pulled out some massive loan (that he never payed back). I can see Eggman frequently runs scams and schemes to scam people and institutions out of money or has some organization he uses to keep squeezing funds out of. It's really interesting to think about.

Granted, the voice acting could have definitely be better, but I let my little cousin play this on my old console recently, and he had no problems with it. Based on the controls alone, I don't know if I was just one of the lucky ones, but I was able to play the game pretty easily. When I first got the game, I completed story mode in like a week. In my opinion, I don't know why this game gets so much shit, it's really not that bad. This game is just an excuse for the voice actors to test random lines from a script, so the writers took the worst aspects of all characters or completely made them OoC for the sake of testing their newest voice cast.
Also Shadow's personal goals had no relevance in terms of plot. What I mean is while Shadow had the most interesting stories narrative wise they were always filled with the most flawed or poor story telling and narrative presentation. But his character had relatable goals, in Free Riders he acts greedy for largely no reason.

Sonic Riders, while a competent game, also deserves one piece of ironing out - make Sonic & Amy less of moody jerks in the scene where the latter chased the former with her hammer (which SonAmy fans think he deserved because they think he has no respect for women yet gets all the praise compared to any other character in the franchise despite also having impassable flaws like Tails being a coward who plays victim, Knuckles being an egotistical idiot, Amy Rose making Sonic sound like the bad guy for friendzoning him yet entitling herself to do the same thing for her protection, Shadow being a failed edge lord because he exists for the sake of his mean-spirited jokiness).
I would defend Sonic after she forced him to love her like usual from 2003 (Sonic X) to 2012 (Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games 3DS), but alas, it’s hard to tell what was going on in his head when he decided to lock Amy Rose inside a tornado.
They could have talked it over like mature adults (or in this case, teenagers, but nope, Amy decided to yell at Sonic like she hates him more than the mean girl Wave the Swallow (all she said about her was “Who does she thinks SHE is?!” while she yelled at Sonic “I won’t forgive you this time! RAAAAAAH!!!!!!” as if he’s the only one who ruined everyone’s lives with toxic masculinity)!
Come to think of it, I wonder if this is that one thing that inspired Sonic Free Riders (if not Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, this is one of, if not my favourite of Sonic games) to be as all-around cringy as it is, especially because (I would talk about the motion controls completely ruining what fun or tolerability the gameplay could have had, but I think a lot of us already did) the personalities of the characters/teams have been flanderized.
Team Sonic had no personality whatsoever other than the leader with hero complex which would be further exaggerated in later 2010s games (Sonic), the sidekick who used to be his own hero in the Adventure games for the DreamCast (Tails) and the angry tough (or wimpy from the inside) guy (Knuckles).
Team Dark (with Metal Sonic, the hidden antagonist of the game in disguise as the third member of Team Dark instead of Omega) and the Babylon Rogues were a bunch of one-dimension mean girl (beta bitch)-like characters.
Team Rose was horribly ruined by Amy Rose completely yet unadmittedly underpaying Vector, dismissing Cream despite her talents which is one of those few instances where she had personality besides being a traditionally sweet little girl and giving Sonic all the hate (which she thinks is love, you know, by forgetting her dates even though she should feel empathy for Sonic in case she forgot HIS dates!) after that infamous tornado incident in the original Sonic Riders instead of gearing (no pun intended on Extreme Gear) all that silly rage towards the ones that TRULY deserve it for being (like I said) completely two-dimensional bullies like Team Dark and the Babylon Rogues!

The gameplay would be fine, but the lack of an interesting story would still be present. How in the world does a GameCube and Wii game somehow manage to have animated cutscenes and a concise interesting story, but and Xbox 360 game can't. That's ridiculous and it would never live up to the first two games.

I had such a difficult time in the team heroes finale, it wasn't that the controls were buggy, it was that I'm right handed So I would use use the items with my right hand while he grind enhancement forced me to use my left hand, the race was unbeatable while having the left foot forward. Although I completed the game, the finale was a major "roadblock" for me.
Note: the roadblock pun was based on the genre of the game.

The rules state that you need three teammates to enter and Rouge just picked 10000-B from the crowd. Speaking of Rouge, she and Vector were in it for the prize. Sonic always says an adventure is no fun if it's too easy. And just like Shadow and Sonic, there has been a long running rivalry between Knuckles and Rouge, even with her CONSTANTLY flirting with him (I mean, just look at Sonic X).

Not gonna lie, out of all the games of the Sonic series, I think THIS is easily the worst one! What? Sonic '06 and Rise of Lyric? HA! At least those two games could be controlled competently (...well, for the most part), and at least they still provided some kind of entertainment.... if only for ALL the wrong reasons. But Free Riders? Well my theory on how each character sustain themselves and live comfortably with their respective lifestyles:
Sonic: Since he was world renowned hero and has saved the world countless times he probably gets free food wherever he goes. Just hop by a Pizzeria or a Chili Dog stand "Oh Sonic, sure anything for you and it's on the house...always". And Sonic probably doesn't have a home so all he needs are food.
Tails: Due to the association with Sonic he might get some benefits but if it isn't as much as Sonic he might part time as a mechanic/engineer and make some money on the side doing mechanic shit for payment. Like it's established he has a Shop near the city in SA1.
Rouge: Used to and might still work for the government and if not she is a treasure hunter so she is probably fine when it comes to money and housing.
Shadow: Is an artificial lifeform thus doesn't need food and probably lives with Rouge
Knuckles: Lives on Angel Island alone and thus has all the resources to himself. He probably lives sustainably off cultivating the land for fruits and vegetables. And probably shit Echidna eats as well as the occasion meat.
The Chaotix Crew: Work as a detective agency and thus make their money that way and live in their store. Probably don't make much money and are usually struggling.
Blaze: She is a princess so she is fine
Silver: Since he is from the future it's unknown how his situation is. For all we know society in the future might operate differently or there is unlimited food due to advanced technology and developments so everyone is fed for and have a roof over their heads. Although Silver could have a job or some career in the future or like Sonic probably gets free food due to being an hero.
Babylon Rogues: Treasure hunters or bandits. Whatever you think they are. They probably make a lot of money doing whatever they do so they're fine.
Vanilla and Cream: Live off the land like Knuckles and are pretty resourceful.
The only ones that I don't get are Amy and Eggman. Amy can be resourceful and live off the land like Knuckles. Heroes shows her on a small home at the beach so that is where she lives and not in the big city. So she probably lives rent free in someway. And gets food by being resourceful. She probably has some wealth saved over from doing something.
You think Eggman has a lot of money to keep finding his projects but no seriously where is his money coming from. You think an international criminal would have zero normal means of making money. Screw where Eggman gets food (probably have his robots steal food and accumulate it for him). How does Eggman get the money to keep doing this stuff especially when Sonic keeps destroying his shit? The only solution would be he was given some huge inheritance and/or pulled out some massive loan (that he never payed back). I can see Eggman frequently runs scams and schemes to scam people and institutions out of money or has some organization he uses to keep squeezing funds out of.
It's really interesting to think about.

Based on the controls alone, I don't know if I was just one of the lucky ones, but I was able to play the game pretty easily. When I first got the game, I completed story mode in like a week.
