Is Pampering" Sheep A Bad Thing?

- Today, on our daily vlog at Ewetopia Farms, we ask ourselves if "pampering" sheep" is a bad thing and what is a "pampered" sheep? Many may think that our sheep are pampered - we talk to them and play with them and give the lambs play areas, so perhaps they are a little spoiled? We let them indoors during inclement weather and feed them grain and hay, so maybe they should fend for themselves more? We also give our sheep the choice to go to pasture or stay inside, does this make them pampered? I would say that despite our obvious care for not only the physical but also their mental well-being, that they are not pampered but treated with respect and compassion as well as being looked after to the best of our ability. In our eyes, this is what makes a good shepherd and is what caring for your flock is all about.

To see what's happening at Ewetopia Farms everyday makes me very happy!!!😊 Pampered sheep is just a matter of opinion really. Smart farmers take excellent care of their animals. Animals that are your bread and butter are VERY important to the bottom dollar!! Now farmers that are also animal lovers are going to enjoy spending time up close with those animals. Just like you said Lynn, it's an added bonus!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your day with us!!! Stay safe!!!
I agree totally!😁
The girls all look in great condition. Love how some come up for a bit of extra attention. It shows they’re not afraid and that you guys treat them with care and kindness. Other farmers have the sheep racing away as soon as the person enters the pen. I like your method best, Lynn! 🐑💚
I didn’t see the comment about pampering, but it sounds like someone who thinks of animals as objects.
You had a commenter a while back whose system was to pasture prolific breeds full-time using accelerated lambing and not attending lambing. The goal was a flock of ewes who would wean 4 lambs/year each unassisted. The method was to let animals die that were struggling under these conditions, and to cull any ewe that didn’t catch in her first cycle.
If that’s your vision of a well-run farm, any time you make a choice that takes animal welfare into consideration you’re leaving money on the table and being foolish.
Thanks 🙂
@alisoncummins2726 well said as usual Alison!🙂
No you’re not pampering. Love your sheep farm model. Happy and non-stressed animals produce better. Plus you are enjoying your animals.
I wouldn't do it anymore if I had to treat them like commodities.
@@EwetopiaFarmstotally get that!
Good looking Ewe's 💙🐑💛
Thanks ❤️
Yay, everyday videos again. I’ll be here every day too. Thanks for showing Angel the other day. Love her.
Angel is definitely one of those specially pampered sheep!😁
I believe you should care for your animals the way YOU would want to be cared for if you were THAT animal, but that is my opinion. I think you are both awesome shepards!
I think so too ❤
Brilliant news thank you Lynn & Arnie, I don’t think they are pampered sheep they are just looked after the way they are supposed to be 😊
Good morning!
🌹🌹🌹🌹
Good morning!
I love the relationship you guys have with your sheep and the way you care for them. Don't let anyone tell you it should be done anyway different. All creatures deserve to be treated with respect and care. 😍
I agree 🙂
I am happy to hear you are going back to mostly daily posts. We are retired and subscribe to premium TH-cam so we can enjoy watching our favorite blogs. You are so unique in doing a video almost every day. Some that we subscribe to only do a video once a week and sometimes they will skip a few weeks.
I find it easier to do every day rather than every week because I just show what's happening as I wander around and it is completely unstaged. To do videos less frequently, I think you have to plan more to fit a week's worth of content into one 20 minute video. I couldn't do it! I'm a little too long winded for that!🤣🤣🤣
Your sheep are very nice👍. I wish you success in your affairs and a good day!
Thanks!
I am glad for a video everyday. I love watching you both and all your “pampered” sheep. 😉😂
Your sheep your rules/ way of raising. Don’t change a thing.
Will we get to see Arnies barn cleaning results?
Hard to believe that he will clean it all up 😆. But yes, we try to show it all! Keep watching 😁
Good afternoon Arnie and Lynn. Tommy likes being the boss. Scotty likes that you stick by 😂😂. Buddy is living his best life and he appreciates it. After riding on a truck and having to find his way home he isn’t taking any chances. And you just have to love that guy. That is so cute with the hay on her head. Looks like a wig. The girls are looking pregnant for sure. Awww Heather take care of yourself. Looking forward to u=you lambies. Looks like Gladiator has done his job. The babies are coming. What’s wrong with being pampered. To me your sheep just look happy and living a good life. I love watching them nibble and crunch the grain. I love how friendly the sheep are because that puts the fun in. Diva loves the attention. Just makes me smile to see the sheep out browsing. Have the kitties disappeared ? Personally I look forward to the posts. They make the day. Big big hugs to you both. Stay warm. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😉😉
Good afternoon Patricia. I think our sheep are happy, healthy and comfortable. If that makes them pampered, I can live with that!😁🥲🥰🥰🥰
😃back to dailys! Made my evening, thanks Lynn, xx💕💕💕💕
You’re welcome 😊
I think your farm is ideal… sheep in the field will eat constantly you are mimicking what they would do in the field. Love that that they have the indoor/outdoor options. Dairy’s say happy milk cow=more milk. Happy sheep would mean similar. I think you’re smart/fortunate. You don’t have the battles with the environment others do.
We do try to mimic outdoor grazing by having troughs with food in them all the time. It definitely works for us as far as sheep health and comfort goes 🙂
Not pampered at all, well cared for. And having calm sheep is way more enjoyable than wild sheep. Nothing like a flock of dog like sheep, so much easier to do anything with them. And they tend to be calm at lambing time, so thats a huge bonus. Don’t change a thing, you and Arnie have been doing what works for you both for years. I can’t wait for lambing videos😊
Thanks. I do find working with tame sheep is SO much easier. Not much longer before lambing starts! :)
I really enjoyed this video I don’t believe your sheep are pampered but they are certainly very well taken care of, happy sheep happy Lynn and Arnie. No point in having animals if you don’t enjoy them
That's how we look at it 🙂
Was that Radar that blocked the ewe starting to show an under at a little over six minutes into the video?
Lol! I'm not sure but it did look like her 😁
Webster dictionary…pampered…verb…to treat with extreme or excessive care and attention. Well maybe 🤦♀️😂🤷♀️🤍😉
Excessive attention maybe but I'm not sure about excessive care 😆
Pampered sheep? Looks like they are just well cared for and respected as it should be? Thanks for contributing to humane farming. ❤
Thank you. I like that ... humane farming!🙂
Yeah TY for going back to everyday 😊
You're welcome 😊
Thanks for another great video 😊
No problem 😊
❤LOVE ❤your animals 🎉❤Love 😍 one another. 🎉😊How sick 😢to adhere To LOVE is a detriment. 😮 Love 🎉Love ❤Love 😮and nothing bad happens 🤔
Thanks!!❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Not pampered, thoughtful, humane, caring and competent farming.
Thanks ❤️
Do they build up static electricity by rubbing together like that? And are the ones with black faces blackallover, under their wool?
I will say keep on watching and you will see what color the sheep are underneath!😁 However, in an upcoming video, we shear Knockout, on of the black faced Suffolk rams, and you will see exactly what they look like, so stay tuned!😉🙂
