I just finished the originals a few weeks ago and I can confirm it's better than tvd. The story always surrounding family is what makes this show so good.

TVD is terrible, I only watched it after watching the pilot of The Originals so I’d understand the back story. Though I was like 19 at the time and I’m a guy so obviously I’m not the target audience 😂
Definitely better. TVD focused too much on the love triangle while TO balanced out between the Originals and the environment around them. It was awesome to see the lore of witches, werewolves, and even vampires to be expanded even more while TVD just briefly touched up on those things.
This is so much better than TVD, yes yes, more of this, please!! The character development for some characters, oh, beautiful! Also, Elijah's not dead, if that's what you're thinking, he's just desiccating. And I'm glad someone like Elijah more than the other characters. He's my favorite!
The Originals are hell more intense, dark, sexy and dramatic than the truly excellent TVD. Now as you say all the Originals are incredibly driven and totally over-powered - but the series masterfully brings in protagonists that really do challenge them in very interesting ways. This family are often on the brink of losing everything but Klaus is a master strategist as broken as he and his family can be. The first series has some incredible roller coaster episodes - and towards the end there will be times when you will think it gets incredibly sad and lost - but trust me there will be hope by the end as you head into a tumultuous season 2!
The originals is far superior to TVD, it's a lot more mature in it's themes, and it's characters are a lot deeper. Klaus develops from being a charismatic villain in TVD, to one of the most interesting characters I've seen on a television show. The central performances are all very good as well.
I love the originals because it was a lot more interesting than TVD and wasn’t just about a love triangle. You get to see more of the person who was always shown as a villain (klaus) and get a chance to understand him more.
When you talked about them 'getting ride of your fav character', if you were talking about Elijah I will just say that he will continue to be in the show, Elijah and Klaus are the 2 main characters of the show so don't worry about no getting enough Elijah And I would just join the chorus of people saying that The Originals is a great show; IMO better than TVD... It's much more mature, the characters are older, the themes and plotlines are as well, and there is 1000 years of history to explore with characters as old as the Mikaelsons. No, Klaus is a narcissistic psychopath because of his hybrid nature only, with remorse (here and there). Psychopaths are masters at manipulation. Remember the phrase "all psychopaths are narcissistic, but not all narcissists are psychopaths. 🙂 Kai, on the other hand, is a true sociopath. Who sucks at manipulation (which is what differentiates him from a psychopath). He's a human, without any kind of remorse, that can straight up kill you in front of everyone without a care in the world.
I started this show when it first aired. Elijah and Klaus were my favorite characters in TVD. I was so happy that they got their own show, and as an old TVD fan myself, TO is definitely better.
As a TVD fan that started/watched The Originals way after TVD ended, I found I actually really liked the first season, there was enough from TVD to refresh my memories on the canon history/lore but plenty of new content to work with as well. The boost in diversity and New Orleans setting was definitely refreshing too!
