I watched it in the cinema and expected it to be a rip off but it had its own poaching, a more relatable sense of humour but crucially, it was well directed, scripted, acted with good effects and stunt scenes, for the time.
You might just write it off as a rip off but don’t underestimate how few good films there were for us to watch and absolutely nothing on TV

Cool you got to see it in the cinema! For all its faults,i think it’s a better “ Indiana Jones “ movie than Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

Not only the train scene is a rip off, the rug scene is also like the basket chase in Cairo , and Sallah is one of the villains, as well as Chief Charles Dreyfus as the German Villain , he was inspectors Clouseau boss .

I agree. Capitalising on a genre's wave of success isn't the same as a rip-off. This movie, and its sequel, being based on the books by H Rider Haggard, is no different to the MCU benefiting from the success of the X-Men movies.

Agreed! The genre has always been popular. And its all in the execution.

Indiana Jones was in large part based on the book King Solomon's Mines, and the previous movies of it.

@@devinreese1397 There are a lot of inspirations for Indiana Jones, including James Bond, the Charlton Heston movie Secret Of The Incas, the saturday morning serials of the 50s, and even Carl Barks's Uncle Scrooge comics. What matters is the combination, the writing, the casting, and the directing. Any well-trodden idea can be turned into a beloved masterpiece if the mix is right.

I just sabe Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) It's the father of modern Adventure fiction! More than Stevenson, Verne, or Emilio Salgari Jack in the 19 Century...because shaped the Adventure Cinema in the XX Century; without Allan Quatermain and his quest for "Lost Worlds" se couldnt have Indy más Rick O'Connel

The Best incarnation of K S's Mines is the 1937 movie with Cedric Hardwick. I was laughing from the very start out loud and that's by far not a bad thing.

Well. Indiana Jones was actually inspired by King Solomon's Mines the book and previous movies of it.

I disagree that the theme songs are similar or even identical.

I'm apparantly of a weird breed. My favorite genre is adventure, but I despise Indiana Jones, I've only seen the first and the fourth one, and in my mind... they're trash.

Instant judgement its a rip off when I saw the VHS cover and it still is.

If this is a ripoff of Indiana Jones, then Indiana Jones is just as much a ripoff of the 1937 & 1950 versions of King Solomon's Mines🙄

It kinda is a Ripp Off. When i watched QuarterMain i so often were reminded on IndianaJones. It also came out later

Agreed. It’s done in such a blatant way though that it’s actually quite endearing

The origin of Indiana Jones was actually inspired by Quartermaine and King Solomon's Mines the book, which was filmed before this one

KSM is not a rip off, although the argument could be made that it was brought the big screen once again because of IJ popularity. That said, and I know I'll get hate for this, I'd rate KSM > IJ; RotLA. It's pacing is near perfect (the upside down people was a little slow), humor was delivered perfectly, stone was a little annoying but way easier on the eyes, Colonel Bachner was the greatest antagonist...
Full disclosure, I actually own the hat worn by RC in KSM... bought it auction along with signed memorabilia. So I may be biased on this.😉
The sequel sadly was no where near as good...😕

Wow! To have the actual hat worn by Chamberlain in the movie is awesome! I’d say KSM is not in the same league as the classic IJ trilogy, but it’s more enjoyable than Crystal Skull and Dial Of Destiny.

    • @markwagner3450
      @markwagner3450 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, the actual hat! It came up last year along with some other memorabilia like the jumpsuit from lost city of gold... I passed on that primarily because I didnt care for the movie and it got way too rich for my wallet. You have to remember, my experience of both movies (KSM & IJ) was as a kid so my passion for the movie and defense of it stems from viewing both thru the eyes of an 8 year old boy. ToD was also pretty bad... but I can see why others still prefer IJ
