632 - LIVE! Shiny Lock Removal Uncatchable Poochyena in OR/AS (because I'm stupid)

- The first in a series of semi-legit lock removal hunts I planned on doing while revisiting Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire! Decided to get the AUTHENTIC Hoenn starter experience with this (my next 2 targets after this, cosplay Pikachu and Primal Groudon/Kyogre are actually cool lol)

Wanted to do a fast hunt that would make me feel powerful after the long grinds for the Groudon costume and Lickitung, so I revisited ORAS starters with this silly lock removal idea! This is my personal first lock removal hunt, and it definitely won't be my last! I realize that doing this makes the locked shinies I found not totally legit, but I'm hunting them legit and don't plan on transferring them/using them online, and that's all that matters to me! As per usual, I controlled my multiple systems using 3DS input redirection (see video #628).
Also, in addition to all the other big projects I'm working on (Emerald Prof Oak challenge movie/ Scarlet movie), I have decided I will make a proper Omega Ruby movie by the end of this playthrough!
NUMBER OF RESETS PER PHASE:
Phase 1 - ~1000
Phase 2 - 3860
Phase 3 - 660
Phase 4 - 2425
Phase 5 - 960
For a total of ~8905 resets and 17,810 total Pokemon seen counting both the starters and pooch. Insane that they all appeared on the same system!!

I'm wondering if this is an RNG thing. Because it used to be in emerald due to a coding error
@@shreym03 It is, probably has a great secret Id and trainer id, is able to catch good frames due to it. This is why you should always reset your file if your hunt takes too long.

The statistical odds of seeing all _five_ shinies on the same cartridge must be insane, cherish that cartridge
If you don‘t care which console is the one that gets all five shinies, then it‘s 1/625, that‘s 0.16%.

@@mcshazer3115 assuming the implied question is "if we try to get any 5 shinies on 5 consoles, what are the chances that we can get them on the same console?" then, if we get the first shiny, then it's guaranteed to be on one of the cartridges (odds of 1). each subsequent shiny is going to be on one of the 5 cartridges, where only 1 of them is right, so the odds of landing on the same cartridge is 1/5. 1\*1/5\*1/5\*1\5\*1/5=1/625
the odds of getting a shiny per run do not matter in this simplified scenario, 'cos if you spend enough time shiny hunting, then you are guaranteed to get at least 5 shinies in your lifetime
there might be a way to state this question that involves shiny rate, or at least makes the odds smaller (for one, i think the fact that we were trying to get a specific pokemon, but got other 4 first should be captured within the odds), but im too tired to think this through rn, so maybe someone will come up with something while i'm asleep lol
Do we know it is a cartridge and not just a rom? (Just curious)
@@Dunkelwald_ technically, yeah, it's homebrew, so probably a rom (you have to go out of your way to create/get a standalone modified cartridge, as opposed just inserting whatever custom rom file you want). Altho i've seen some homebrew systems where you have a homebrew cartridge, that has a slot for an SD card which would contain the rom (and saves?), but i don't remember if it was for this console or for some other one
I love our silly little community. Instead of hacking the game to obtain shinies, we are hacking the game to just see a shiny we can’t catch! 😂
Most of my shiny pokemon have been from cheat codes 😂

I think it's funny how some random Corvisquire is shiny locked while nothing else is except the legends and starters
I do hate how the starters are shiny locked, though.
there are a few other random locks like the gift Toxel, Porygon, and a bunch of stuff in the DLC

It was so wild how you kept getting the shiny on that same console! It was so weird I wondered "is it perhaps because you keep reverting the save file?" But No! That's not how the rng works so that couldn't be it! The rng in these games takes a lot of things into account, including inputs, random advancements, and date/time, so you just got insanely lucky lmao!
Maybe it’s to do with trainer ID?
You're my inspiration for full odds hunting, I got my shiny treecko in ruby after 3625 srs, and now I'm almost at 2400+ for a dewford magikarp lol, congrats on all the finds!! Gl with whatever comes next man really entertaining content

You should hunt a catchable Pooch now. Take all of your starters and the pooch on an adventure.

Praise the pooch! Got my target Pichu in the Forest of Focus in a master ball in 233 encounters! Shiny charm on but the SRs weren’t the best haha

Also quick bit of advice for Primal Groudon/Kyogre, you can do runaways for them, and I'm pretty sure they're faster than doing soft resets.

But in all seriousness, I’m super excited for all of these unlock hunt videos-it’s a very cool idea.
I think since a lot people are scared of Homebrew/GameShark/etc. cheats (either cheats not working or crashing the game) or just don’t see the appeal of a “semi-legit pokemon” that you can’t transfer up-it’s hard to find many people who have attempted hunts like this.
It’s always been incredibly cool and quite rare to see ANYONE even attempt one. (LJ’s shiny Victini comes to mind.) Congrats on the uncatchable shiny Pooch! (And the 4 other shiny starters 😅)

It's funny how these things tend to work. SO MANY hunters over the years have found countless uncatchable shiny Poochs (in RSE) while struggling to get their specific starter to shine. Yet, here you are Matt getting not only 3, but 4 shiny starters before the Pooch decided to shine, and all on the same game to boot! Absolutely crazy!

The shiny locks suck, yeah. But it makes the hunts a bit better in the older games for me. Since the odds are so rough I just can't bring myself to hunt anything other than modern locks!

1) ace ventura ftw 2) oras is my favorite games, there so much to do and its so easy to get and breed pokemon and the community at the time was awesome and the connectivity is amazing and the world build is gorgeous. I love my original day release save file to bits
im very interested in this homebrewing of a ds to unlock previously locked mons. victini is my favorite mythical and ive always wanted to hunt it in gen 5, any way i can get an explanation as to how this works?? Do the video links in the description work for gen 5?
Gen V is a little bit different - I believe people either use Action Replay codes to remove the locks in those games or some edits to the rom using something called Twilight menu. I believe SHRetro may be able to point you in the right direction with Gen V stuff - they are the lock removal master

You need no other DS. Only the bottom left DS is needed. Any others are cursed.

I loved ORAS because the dexnav feature meant I didn't need to look up encounters online and a few other things like more megas, what reasons do you dislike it? Lack of battle frontier and customization?
Original R/S are my all time favorites and there were lots of things I didn't enjoy about ORAS as remakes in particular like the Safari Zone and Mallville
I will never forgive gamefreak for locking Reshiram and Zekrom's shiny in gen 5. There is something way more special about shiny sprites than the 3D models imho.

Maybe that file that got all the shinies had a very low secrete ID number?? Does that work in that game??
I resonate with that 1st sentence so incredibly hard. I spent 5 months on a hunt for a Shiny Deyoxys on a spare Alpha Sapphire file which amounted to roughly 700k resets only to find out that it's locked, not as mental as rk9s' 1 million plus resets for Zygarde in XY but it's still immensely stupid. It's one of the most irritating things, it's just so stupid that Dialga and Palkia in BDSP are the first time in over a decade that the box art legends are huntable, they REALLY stuck to that "faithful" thing huh.
I'm sure you get this question a lot, but how are you controlling all 5 3DSes at once? Is there some wiring going on we're not seeing? EDIT: video number 628 apparently covers this. Thanks for the info!
