it did feel at the start a bit like he was focusing on black youths, because of the often used idea that all blacks love chicken. But tbf, a large majority of UK children who are out usually look as he described. no matter what race lol
When I return to my old Inner City High Street there are endless youths in and outside the 2 Chicken Shops and the nearby McDonalds every time and it is 99% Black youths. Also now Mcky has lived in the Middle-Class white enclave of East Dulwich/Dulwich Village for a long time but all the surrounding areas. Nearby parts of Clapham, Streatham, Brixton, Kennington, The Oval, Camberwell, Peckham, and Walworth, Lewisham, Hither Green, Downham, Forest Hill are predominantly Black areas and he is just conveying what he and I see as I know those areas forensically and my heart is still there though I moved 37 years ago...lol

The chicken kids are the estate kids so yeah good kids it’s all races to. But they all dress the same and acted same white black asian but they all hang out together and act like that and love to hang outside shops lol
Sounds idyllic but not the depiction that I see when I return to my old Inner City area at all.
Sadly AFTER school the kids 95% of the time hang around with their own demographic as they do on the street at weekends and the local rendezvous is obviously the 2 chicken shops or McDonalds....lol

Living in Europe, people ask me as an Australian if the English language is really international... I have always understood both American UK English and slang variants, probably the US from TV and movies, and the UK English from school and aswell TV. In Australia you get it all. The UK varies by region as much as the US English...This is a classic example of one English speaker not getting another. I actually couldn’t understand that some of the stuff just passed over his head.
Micky's referring to kids with hoods ('hoodies') not kids from the hood ('neighbourhood'). "The hood" as a location isn't something we really say in the UK,. That's more an Americanism.

I have no less than 5 different takeouts selling fried chicken along a small parade of shops 2 minute walk away from my house. No kids loiter about any of them. Having so many options seems to confuse our local teens.

We have a ton of fast food places by our house and since alot of businesses are closing again in our area they all have been super busy. The only places you can go by us is to the grocery store or to wait in the drive through at a fast food place.

You basically got the last bit right. Because he´s in Southend (about 40 miles east of London) he´s talking about white kids trying to act "ghetto" and not really pulling it off. Fried chicken shops seem to be taking over from the more traditional fish´n´chip shops, and are very popular with the youth.
Working class chav kids outside chicken shops. Not high end places like KFC (lol) but fried chicken places called like Crazy Chicken is Chicken Cottage. They’ve seen American kids enjoy it, so they’ve embraced it and use them as lol hang out spots with their skateboards and dope, like they’re claiming their territory.

London has a LOT of fried chicken shops, its only like a 2 minute walk between them and its very cheap so kids that don't have a lot of money are always getting box meals and walking around eating them. It's not really a race stereotype, its kinda like a "chavvy" one

They all talk in a kind of strange London Jamaican hybrid accent regardless of where in the county they live or what colour they are.
