Hi and thank you for the tip. My question is whether you find the spray tip clogs up between uses? How do you avoid the glue sealing the sprayer pieces? Thanks, Diane
Yeah nozzle clogging can be an issue. Should be fine though so long as you thoroughly rinse and flush with water after use. Easy enough to do. I just stick the hose into a container of water and pump the spray until it shoots out clear water only.
Lovely! I've tried commercial sealant from WS but it didn't really work for keeping foliage stuck to my trees. So then I switched to spray glue from Noch, which works like a charm but leaves the trees tacky all over, which isn't all that nice. So this homemade recipe is what I'm trying next! And if it doesn't work for the trees, I'll just use it for my next project which will be my first game board. One question though: I always see you double spraying first with IPA and then with the sealant. Why not replace some of the water in this recipe with IPA instead? Will it mess up the glue in the Mod Podge?
Hey there! Adding iso to mod podge makes it go weird and goopy. The iso spray first simply breaks surface tension which is also what the drops of detergent does. Good luck!
Yep absolutely! I'm in Rotorua, I usually head down to Palmerston North for Queens Birthday for the local Jazz Fest. I bring our school's Jazz Band down to play in the competition there :)
Another great video mate. Question: I've always found that when putting the mix into a spray bottle, with the exact same dilution, I still get a hard straight stream from the bottle, and not really a mist or spray. Have not found a way to fix this yet. Any ideas?
That's pretty odd mate, not sure why that would happen 🤷♂️ Sorry I can't be of any help to you with that one? Keep trying different ratios maybe, flush the spray bottle out thoroughly with fresh water.... good luck!
First make sure the spray bottle has proper mist nozzle, and proper pump mechanism. Not all spray bottles seem to do the trick. Second you get it if you let it dry in the spray bottle, as the glue will dry in there. Or if you have slightly bigger glue lumps in there to block the spray nuzzle. I always wash / rinse the spray bottles pump/nozzle part after usage, so the glue will not have time to dry even a bit in there.
1000s of ks from the nearest GW or woodland scenics store and my sealant spray wont come out :'( tried 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 even 5:1 water/pva ratio with dishwashing liquid and nothing ..tried 3 different spray bottles and nothing ..... just shoots out carving channels through my fields :( ... think ill try find some spray varnish
Ok that’s no good, sorry to hear about that. Are you spraying it too close maybe? Either way save it because you can always use what you’ve made and apply it with an eye dropper for bigger debris and rocks etc. Its also great for sealing miniature bases. Best of luck man!
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes cheers mate ... i ended up just pouring it over the board and praying to the gods that it wont wash away my filler putty xD its looking fairly decent.. but covering a 1.2x1.2m board with an eye dropper would suck ... will buy some cans of varnish.
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! How long would you say this takes to dry? I found Mod Podge Ultra spray in my craft store and the dry time was 4+ hours 😮
I've seen other videos using spray sealants that you need to wash the nozzle through with soapy water after each use, I assume the same applies to this?
So with no mod podge around, what would be the ratio, if you mix pva glue, matt varnish (airbrushready) and water? 1:1:6 and dish washer of course. or more matt varnish and less water, because airbrush varnish is thinned down already?
I’m not sure buddy. I’ve never tried mixing my own mod podge substitute before. I would suggest going with your ratio in a small amount and test it out on something small. Wait until it sets completely and check the result. Hope this helps 😊
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes Last question, do you let the first layer of pva dry? The one used for the flock? Of spray alcohol and sealant after placing the flock?
Glad you like it! Just make sure you clean the nozzle thoroughly with fresh water after every use. I didn’t include that step in the vid but probably should have 😅
Great video. Nice and short, no fluff and straight to the point, perfect! Keep the videos coming... please.
Thanks James, I am aiming to release a video a week. Trying to balance it out with my actual paid work!
Short and to the point, 10/10
Glad you enjoyed it buddy! 😊 Just make sure you clean the nozzle after each use. I forgot to add that at the end 😬
Great straight to the point guide, nice one😉
Definitely tried to keep it short and sweet 😁
What the heck that seems way to easy 😅
Thank you for that, you are awesome ❤
Haha yeah easy and cheap! No worries, glad you liked it 😊

YES! Fucking genius vid! Simple and direct. No bullshit. Loved it!
Why thank you very much! 😁
Great video - thank you very much! I've never done that before, so I wonder: where is the varnish in your version? Already included in the Mod Podge?
In the mod podge yeah! Thanks ☺️
Damn GREAT tutorial vid!!! Thank you
Thanks ☺️

Quick question though
Can you use it on woodland scenics snow effect?
Thank you! I can’t see why not. I’d recommend trying on a small test first though.

I've made similar stuff, but it always seems to get clogged in the nozzle/sprayer. How do you keep it from doing that?
I unscrew the sprayer, dip the hose in fresh water then spray till only water come through. It doesn't take long and I've had no problems yet.

aye nice another option is pva glue instead of mod podge.

Works great
Yay! I'm glad its working for you! 😁
hey can i ask you something?...can i use white glu + water + detergen?
You would probably have to add some matte varnish in with it in that case.

Have you checked the nozzle? On those spray bottles the nozzle usually screws to adjust the spray. Try screwing it in a bit and see what happens.
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes yea tried that as well. With several spray bottles

@@dicedrinksanddadjokes no worries mate, just gonna keep on trying. It’s not like it doesn’t work completely. A mist just would be better.

Heya yeah that sounds about right. Homemade stuff takes about that too. Thing is it’s highly watered down which slows the drying process.
I've seen other videos using spray sealants that you need to wash the nozzle through with soapy water after each use, I assume the same applies to this?
Yeah you definitely need to wash the nozzle after each use otherwise to avoid clogging 😊
Hi, you mention that commercial ones include varnish, but in your recipe you don't include any. Not really needed then?
Mod podge is a mix of PVA and varnish so it’s included 😊
So with no mod podge around, what would be the ratio, if you mix pva glue, matt varnish (airbrushready) and water? 1:1:6 and dish washer of course. or more matt varnish and less water, because airbrush varnish is thinned down already?

@@dicedrinksanddadjokes THX, I will try. At least it seems my ratio is not far from reality ^^

Isopropyl alcohol
