Hello Stephen/Son of Phyllis ... I so enjoy watching your moms videos ... she had such a peaceful way about her ... I think of her as Southern Frugal Dot Calm ... such a pleasure to watch again xoxoxo
Steven, I found your mums channel a few months ago while searching for an Alsatian onion pie recipe and decided this was pretty much perfect. For a solid month afterward I would hurry home from work to decompress, watching one video after another (still working my way through) and making lists and plans to shop and cook along with her. Early on I thought something seemed very 'local' about her, and about the same time I discovered we were indeed in the same state I also began to realise she had passed-and very recently at that. I am so sorry for your loss but hope that carrying on with the channel will be some comfort. I am watching your videos and enjoying your stories as well and do hope you and yours are doing well in this strange time we're living in, self-isolating and learning new ways to acomplish things we took for granted before. Thank you for carrying on with this wonderful channel!

And now Phyllis, i started to follow this dear as well only to find out that she to was gone☹☹. Were loosing all the awsome pastime cooks and bakers. I loved these to "LADIES"!!
I lost count of how many times I made this pie since you first posted it. I tried a couple other recipes with all the added ingredients like shredded cheese, herbs, etc, but yours is simply the best by far!! The only thing I do differently is put a top crust on it because your crust is sooo good!👍
I just made this pie today and it came out great...! I am thankful for this recipe and have thought of other things to incorporate into this dish. Thank you 👍😊
Just want to shout out a big thank you for sharing this recipe! I stumbled on to this video yesterday looking for something different and found your onion pie recipe. I had never heard of a pie such as this, but I am a fan of sweet onions so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did.... this pie is amazing! I paired it with a kale salad and called it lunch! I will defiantly keep this in my favorite recipe file. Thanks again Phyllis, I am enjoying your channel!
This is for Phyllis and Bucky's son, who I've seen but forgotten his name. Sometime's you just don't know what to say when someone goes through what you're going through. I felt like I knew your mother- course I didn't. Such a sweet voice and great food and a manner that made you feel like you were a friend. And in the end I think that's the most important thing we can do while we're on this earth. Sooo- I'm going to follow every bit of this recipe and eat way to much of it because I can't remember when it was that I had onion pie, but I did, and it's SOO good. as I'm positive her's is one of the best. And I'm making the crust dammit! I can do what she did there. So- condolences to you and an internet hand shake.
Phyllis and Bucky did not have children together. Phyllis brought two children to her marriage to Mr Bucky (Stephen and Renee) and Mr Bucky brought one son, Ernie Jr. They both had been married once before.
I made this last night, and it was absolutely delicious. I added small pieces of diced ham steak. Before baking, I ground pepper on the top. The speckled effect looked and tasted great. I knew I was likely to eat it all in a day, so I forced myself to freeze some for later. I have never made a pie before last night, and I am very happy with how nice it turned out. Thanks, Phyllis!
Phyllis if you are having trouble with your plastic wrap you can keep it in the freezer and it will work better for you because I have tried it and it really works. I really enjoy your channel keep putting out those great recipes.
My husband and I simply loved this recipe. The flakiness of the pie crust and the delicate taste of the onions was surprising. We will definitely make this more often. We had it for dinner and it is hardy meal. Thank you for the details of the recipe.
This looks great! For those that worry about trans fats, Crisco is hydrogenated vegetable oil or trans fat. Lard is actually better/more healthy than Crisco and actually makes a crispier pie crust! Thanks for this delicious recipe!
I remember when I kept being butter-shamed by my Mom because EVERYONE insisted margarine was the way to go and that butter was bad for you. Well... here we are being told that butter is good for you and margarine is not. Ha ha! I got tired of being told by dieticians and experts what we should or shouldn't use. After a bit of research and an executive decision, I do it my way. Usually I wind up being stubborn in the right direction. The key is in moderation because I rarely use Crisco or lard, but sometimes the recipe comes out better with the suggested ingredient.
Hello Phyllis, thanks for the video, I love love love onions I some times just make onion sandwich, raw with mayo or cooked with mustard, oh so good. I will be making this. :) :) :)

Johnita Roberts-Huff That sounds good. I love them so much I used to eat them like apples when I was younger. I eat a lot of caramelized onions off a plate and thought about grilling some bread for them but just ended up eating a plate fyll.
I eat an onion sandwich All the time. I have to keep telling the people at the subway to keep piling them on. Here is my recipe. Wonder bread, mustard and onion. That's all you need: )
One of my favorites, my coworkers are always perplexed when I tell them what I'm eating. I always add bacon and white peffer to mine and i don't mix the onions/bacon with the sour cream, i just pour the sour cream eggs flour mixture over the onions.

@@gardensofthegods Actually, January 25, 2020, according to her son's tribute video here.
@@kathiethompson6719 oh okay I could have sworn he made it sound like she died right around Christmas . Well I only discovered their channel a couple weeks ago so I must have discovered them right after she died
This is the first one I have watched since she passed. I know it is strange that I truly miss her and her way of talking and her good food. Now she cooks with the angels.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your instruction on onion pie! I've never had it, but I love the way you prepare everything. You have a lovely voice and are so refined with the way you do things. Awesome! TY, Phyllis. I will try it & may U be @ peace wherever you are. 💜
Watching again 2/11/20 love this pie. Thank you ! Miss you guys. RIP
Love this channel and Depression Cooking with Aunt Clara. Sad they’re both gone. 💔💔
Aunt Clara was also my very favourite. I found her first and follow her for a year until i found out that dear soul had passed.
And now Phyllis, i started to follow this dear as well only to find out that she to was gone☹☹. Were loosing all the awsome pastime cooks and bakers. I loved these to "LADIES"!!
I tried this recipe and it had to cook for an hour at 325. Otherwise wonderful. I love the way she makes the pie crust. I have learned an new trick.
RIP amazing couple 😢😢😢
I lost count of how many times I made this pie since you first posted it. I tried a couple other recipes with all the added ingredients like shredded cheese, herbs, etc, but yours is simply the best by far!! The only thing I do differently is put a top crust on it because your crust is sooo good!👍
Wonderfull. Thank you for sharing.
I could eat sweet onions everyday! I cannot wait to make this beautiful pie! Yum 😋
I just made this pie today and it came out great...! I am thankful for this recipe and have thought of other things to incorporate into this dish. Thank you 👍😊
You show a lot of how to things that even make me sit up and watch at 68 years. I love making pie crust.
We made this today for lunch and it was a winner! So thankful for the recipe and the sweet soul who shared it!
I have never heard of onion pie, but it certainly looks scrumptious and your pie shell looks so flaky! Thanks so much for another yummy recipe!
1994abbygirl in France it is called Quiche ! It uses Leeks and cheese such as Grueyer and also uses Leeks Very yummy!🥰
Phyllis, although I am thousands of miles away, I heas you very well. Thank you for your effort.
Thanks, Phyllis!
... God will bless you Phyllis ... absolutely wonderful --- all of your presentations ... Thank-you
Like most other people, I love watching you cook. You make pastry making look easy, so yes, I'm going to have a go, thank you x
Such a delicious dish. Miss you, Ms. Phyllis ❤️🙏💕

Miss Phyllis, please pray for us. I know you are in heaven and you must be one of Our Lord's favorites.
I’ve been told that if you look for the flatter sweet onions, they are sweeter. I’ve never done a taste test, but I do look for the flat ones!
Sure miss you & Mr Bucky up in heaven, love all her recipes, until we meet in heaven xoxo
Hello Phyllis, thanks for the video, I love love love onions I some times just make onion sandwich, raw with mayo or cooked with mustard, oh so good. I will be making this. :) :) :)

Johnita Roberts-Huff also, onions are good for you! i love to have them in thin slices with lettuce.
I love love love onions too...will have to try that onion sandwich now. I love raw diced onions on a hot dog...no ketchup...just the onions, hot dog and hot dog roll.
Johnita Roberts-Huff
That sounds good.
Phyllis- ‘the Bob Ross of cooking shows’...may you Rest In Peace!! 💕
Sweet potato and bean pie are my favorite. Never heard of onion but I will definitely give this one a try. Thanks much.
pops d. r. What kind of beans?
One of my favorites, my coworkers are always perplexed when I tell them what I'm eating. I always add bacon and white peffer to mine and i don't mix the onions/bacon with the sour cream, i just pour the sour cream eggs flour mixture over the onions.
