I quit my job 3 months back after working for 14 years straight. I had never been this healthy & happy . There’s no reason for you to be burnt out and continue risking your life, if your reason is the mortgage , sell your stupid house and live peacefully in a small rented house . As long as your alive, you can achieve whatever you want to

I remember in the 60's. A man who pumped gas for a living could get a new car every 3 years, have a house and a vacation with his (stay-at-home) wife and 3 kids every year. Now, a person pumping gas full time can barely make enough money to take care of themselves.

In IT burnout is very common, Palki missed the name of IT/ software Engineer where we work 12-13 hours and even more just to save our job. Sometimes people say in IT we have huge salary ,for those people please join and see how to survive, in IT we are doing our job on weekdays and learning new coding language on weekends them we get the chance to earn. Burnout is very common in IT industry because of cost cutting approach of companies.

I'm in this situation right now. After being overworked, always being put as leader in every job, either I wanted or not, because my good performance and being one of the best but only recognized for it when the company needed something done but never recognized as an employee, neither to respect to rest time and day offs, nor sick leave, nor financially, nor respected my time off the job so I could study, making me lose classes and being overwhelmed in my education too, also lots of moral and emotional harassment, I ended bunt out several times in 20 years, which lead me to a severe depression that made me stay in a bed for almost 8 years and be completely dependent on my family. I have been treating the depression and anxiety disorder for 3 years now and I am pursuing a new career in another area. Now even if a company tried to exploit me like that, they couldn't, since I can't perform like I did before because I lost a lot of my capabilities and they never returned, like if my brain is permanently damaged. Even if I try to have the same performance as before, my brain simply can't do and I either go slower on things or I am unable to do them at all. It's like an incapacity that also works as protection against even more damage. I'm trying exactly to be an administrator now, since I'm a natural leader and I have being warning all places I have worked the same thing on your report, they need to fix the system, not force people into extreme all the time. Fix the organization, the work distribution etc. Since they don't care, I realized that I must become the one in the lead with the power to control the decisions, instead to try to convince people that don't care. This way not only will make an even better performance and production, but also protect the people working and myself too. Go study about burn out and learn to avoid it for your own good, not only in work, but in life.

This was a burning issue in the past and continues to be so. Twenty six years back, I quit my job in private sector industries after serving four companies for twenty five years. Best option for the people who are experiencing burn out symptoms is to plan to work independently and quit the job. There’s no certainty that the next employer is more humane or sympathetic. If you disclose your burn out problem, that’s a negative factor for sure in the prospective employer’s book.

This is great. Such themes ought to be explored more. The feeling of burnout is primarily bcoz of the driving motive behind our present economic model. Capitalism. The constant hunger for more profits and the constant need to increase the rate of surplus value eventually results in more exploitation of the employees. Employees are constantly made to compete and improve further and further. This results in exhaustion aka burnout. The reason y the employees never say never is because as you said "they constantly want to stay relevant" as of they say no someone else will replace them. This constant fear of being replaced isolates the employee and alienates them from their own feelings and the larger society I'm general. Thus desperation and fear set in and anger emerges both at the colleagues ( seen as competition) and at the explotataive system. This translates into a feeling of disdain towards the world. Hate anger fear desperation nd exhasution thus chains the proletariat and prevents any social or economic mobility.

I m confused between laziness and burnout.
A year ago, I got my dream Job as WFH and I was way more enthusiastic and motivated for the job. My performance was above par and the employer was happy too.
But this year, ever since my office has started, t have to travel long hours, and also my responsibility at the job has increased a lot. I now feel very tired all the time and want the quit the job that I loved once.
I have off on weekends, but I spent my weekends lying on the bed all the time, I just don't feel like doing anything. My family tells me that I have just become lazy and I am just looking for ways to run away from responsibilities. I feel guilty, but at the same time, I don't feel like taking any action.

If you were lazy, you would not have been able to work for five days straight in a week. I have heard various times how a IT professional just wakes up, go to job through a long hours journey, works in a toxic environment, comes back home, puts some food in his mouth and sleeps. This way of living easily gives you burn out.
Do yoga/meditation in the morning everyday before going to work. This will give you clarity of your inner feelings and thoughts and you will yourself find a way to come out of your situation. If not, consult a professional. Good luck 🤞

Hey this is actually me right now! Last year I was incredibly satisfied with my work and did my part quietly without any complaint. This year, because I’ve moved up to senior rank (meaning more work is piled up), and because we’re going back to WFO, i’m becoming more irritable and ‘lazy’.
When I’m free, I didn’t want to do anything other than lie in bed. I didn’t even have the motivation to pursue my hobbies like I once did. I thought something was wrong with me because I was angry all the time and stressed out. After watching this video, I realised I’m just burnt out because of the terrible management in my company. I do think we’re in the same position and you’re not just being ‘lazy’. I mean sure you don’t have to love your job, but if you are too tired to even pursue your hobbies or social relations, there’s a much deeper cause to it than simply ‘laziness’.

This was my couse changing over the years, I always wanted history degree as 1st option, those were all free college, the best in the country in terms of education quality and resources:
2010: Got accepted in Physical education because my father didn't wanted me to do History.
2011-2012: took another test and got accepted and started History, wich I ultimately wasted because of personal matters.
2019: did the exams again this time to Physical education again because my scores was not sufficient to do History. Classes would start in 2020 but pandemic happened, so Im currently at the 1st semester taking online classes(but there are days wich classes are take there, wich Im not going cuz I dont have bus money)
2021: took exams to do History and got in, my 1st choice and night time will allow me to work better than Physical.Ed. 5 hours in the morning.
Normally it would start in 2022, but pandemic issues took that to november 2022.
Dont waste time dude, I have nothing because I wasted time.

@@pagodebregaeforro2803 I'm sorry if you feel that way. You actually have been in a longer phase of bs in life. I have been finding jobs to completely quit my studies but I'd feel guilty if I betray my parents for paying my enrollment fees. It's like I'm chained to study. I'm taking Architecture right now because of my dad but I still don't have any passion for this course, even after my 3rd year in this course.
      Life really sucks man.

What do all your courses have in common? You. Find a coach or therapist and find out why you are the passenger and not the driver in your life. Then do something about it. End

I find only 3 reasons to work for someone else:
      1. I am learning for my goal,
      2. I am raising capital for my goal, and
      3. My goal is now secured and I am doing charity for something I really believe in and which makes me happy.
That said, ask yourself why are you working for some else?
If you are working for someone else without knowing why, then it is time to revisit your definition of 'career' and compare that with 'slavery'

Amazing episode; so relevant today. The Internet and all the smart gadgets are running our clock today. The companies have set their expectation too high from their employees. Some of you have commented that you have started taking some drugs to combat stress. How about something more natural such as beets, avocados, citrus fruits, nuts, kale, spinach and many other food sources. I know I am sounding very old-fashioned than taking some modern drugs but do your research on side-effects before you get addicted to them.

Palki ji, I’ve always admired you & @WIONews for your unbiased journalism & for presenting news that needs to be told. You’ve covered a lot of socio political topics in Gravitas Plus. You even made one on Jerusalem conflict.
is there a reason for not yet covering anything on the kashmiri pandit genocide that happened in India? Shouldn’t the horrific stories that were not reported by media for 32 years be at least reported now?
