I find your "strict criteria" approach very inspiring. I've been confused with an ever expanding collection of random things, and I respect the sense you have imposed on this!
I have been watching minimalist wardrobe videos for months now and this one is by far the most helpful and realistic one! I'm not at all a black & white type, but having a dress up, everyday, dress down categorie in right proportions makes so much sense! Thank you 🫶
Even though I'm no where near having a minimalist closet. I am working on curating and cleaning out my closet. Your method helped me realize why I have trouble finding things to wear... and I've been able to identify parts of my wardrobe where I have a lot of duplicates and pieces im lacking. I realized I have no tops for dressed up occasions, but I have many that are dressed down. Hoping to be able to balance my wardrobe better so I can makes getting dressed less stressful 😂 also I'd be so interested to see you make a video of what you wear in a week, to see how you apply this formula and utilize these pieces!
Very inspiring, I really enjoyed this! We can all do with more wardrobe simplification to open up some mind space for other things. It’s much harder to structure yourself at first, rather than just buying what you see and like, but once the structure is there the temptation to deviate is lessened.
I could have written this myself! I so appreciate your comment. Sometimes I feel a little alone in my minimal approach so it's nice to hear others out there feel the same!
Hi! I would LOVE additional videos about EVERYTHING else wardrobe wise. I like all the detail and don’t mind the time it might take to add in extra bits of info. Categories such as: Bras Underwear Socks Hats Scarves Swimwear Hair Nailcare and upkeep Outerwear Items for when on menstrual cycle (clothing, sheets, etc) The list can go on, especially when considering other areas of the bedroom, closet, and overall home. Edit: Since this was a comment after just finding your channel I just browsed and you do in fact cover a multitude of topics in this list. Can’t wait for the others!
Really interesting approach to a minimal wardrobe and I really like the fact that you don’t insist that one has to live in blazer and jeans like so many capsule wardrobe videos do. Also yeah to capris 😂
I think your formula has been really well-thought. I certainly have a bit more items, but I like the idea of your categories: dressed-up, everyday and dressed-down. It covers most situations. Brilliant and simple!❤
Interesting approach. I would need more to cope with washing and drying ( I don't use a dryer). Also I look better in colours than neutrals, which makes this approach more difficult, but it's a useful technique for deciding when decluttering or shopping.
Wonderful insight! This is exactly what I was hoping people would pull from this video...what would work for them, and what wouldn't! No 2 wardrobes could ever look that same, and I was hoping just to inspire people to think a little differently about their clothing!
I have been declutering my wardrove and I am so glad I found your video, I won’t have such a few pieces like you but it is helping me a lot to structure it more and know the purpose of my clothes, I love the categories you grouped your clothes like dress-up, daily and dress-down, this formula is the best I found for me ! Thank you for sharing! ❤
Just found this channel and as another systematic thinker I love it! I wondered if you were Canadian ever since the first time, I heard you say "out" in another video lol.
Could you go through where you got these items? I struggle to find places to buy classic pieces that fit a minimalist closet that are timeless, easy to pair, and nice quality.
They are truly so old (most over 5 years), so I'm not sure if it would be super helpful, but as I go to replace items I will keep my audience updated! :)
My wardrobe is very minimal as well. I have minimal colors as well. Black, white, gray, blue , pink , tan and carmel. I wear jeans and a work shirt for my job. So I don’t have to wear dress clothes. But I have 4 dressy tops.
This is very helpful and insightful. Definitely gave me some direction on what to aim for when buying new pieces and what to keep in my closet to make it functional. I have quite a considerable amount of things but whenever I have to go out always find myself thinking "I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!!!" 😅
This is the first structure for a minimal wardrobe that I can actually work with! Thank you very much. I was wondering about laundry. Would you be comfortable sharing how (often) you wash your clothes? I imagine that I couldn't fill a whole load with as little clothes, since I would want to seperate the lights and the darks and obviousliy trousers aren't in need of as many washes as tank tops are. Would be really interested in that! ...oups. I just realised this moment that you'll probably have plenty of laundry loads in lights and darks with your son! 🙂
That's exactly it! Lots of laundry when it comes to our family as a whole. When it was just me though, I found I could get away with a week to week basis. That being said, I wasn't working out a lot and I'm not a particularly sweaty person; I genuinely think everyone's laundry needs will be different for their different lifestyles!
This is very helpful for me. I have a minimalist wardrobe too but just something has been missing. The categories…that’s what I needed to hear about. That’s where the holes are. I rarely have to dress up, but when I do, there is nothing. Also, the lounge wear category. I wind up in PJ’s all day and would rather at least change into something I can quickly run to the store if I need to. Thank you for making this video. New subscriber here ❤
First time viewer, new subscriber. I really appreciate hearing your thought process for why you have each piece and how you've deeply considered all aspects of the purpose the piece serves. I dont have a minimalist aesthetic, but i aspire to have a minimalist wardrobe because we have a very small space here in the UK. I have a lot to learn anad appreciate your tips. PS. You look so much like my Aunt Debbie, who is very beautiful and has such a positive and quirky vibe.
Oh my goodness....this is BRILLIANT !!! THANK YOU so much :) we are very similar in many things (Canada, pants rise, silhouette and neck line preferences, colours...lol) I will soooo give it try....very encouraging. Would you consider disclosing your garments brands? (specially the sets). I am not one to copy cat piece by piece to the brand, BUT I found your consideration to be so align with mine that, I believe your items are what Im looking for. Glad I found your channel :) Have an awesome day!
Oh my gosh this comment meant a lot! Nice to know I'm not the only one haha. I am so grateful you enjoyed the video! So honestly, the overwhelming vast majority is old (like...really old), so I decided not to link items. The suit set is from Aritzia, jean set top is Dynamite and bottoms are Urban Outfitters, and the brown set is from a store called Stradivarius. None are available currently, but those are the stores they were from! :)
Hi Hanna, this makes so much sense. I have been trying forever to streamline my wardrobe. I work an office job, do you have any tips for incorporating a diy office uniform?
Please go over the dress choices when you get the other two back. I love dresses, so easy and a whole outfit without effort. I made some similar wardrobe decisions recently. I decided I only wanted black casual pieces for most of the year. I will get something separate in for summer (likely in white), but I don't need much. I rarely dress super casual unless I am at home or running errands. I don't need a mix and match capsule just for that since I work outside the home five days a week and don't like looking causal at work most days. I also decided that a few matching sets will really make a difference so I am on the hunt. I did get a casual wear set with jogger pants and a half zip hoodie and have leggings, a tee, and tank to coordinate that with. Outside of casual wear I would like to get a navy dress suit, a denim matching set (just purchased a jacket that matches jeans I already have), a linen skirt two-piece set, and a linen pant two-piece set. I love your approach!
I think I’ve watched every video on TH-cam on capsule and wardrobes… I think it’s the first time I leave a comment on that kind of video. I really enjoyed this one, and look forward to watching your next videos 🎉
again! Hanna! it's very interesting to see your system! i have a similarly thought out framework, but it *is* different. my "athleisure" capsule is all on it's own because i sweat 5x a week, but those athleisure things also cover what i wear in the house.
@@lizabean723 oh WOW!!! Thank you kindly :) I love hearing about other people that have a system. You closet sounds so beautiful and functional! I hope it serves you well :)
I will need to do another video explaining this fully, but I basically pull from the adjacent categories (in the case of loungewear, I would either wear my pyjamas or my dressed down clothing).
I think sticking with certain proportions for top/bottom by dressiness levels makes total sense! Just curious what laundry looks like for you. I think I would need a few more items, even if they are duplicates. I actually have multiple black tees. I can use your principles to make better sense of my closet :) In reality, it comes down to which silhouettes suit me AND are appropriate for each occasion, and I think you really nailed it! Also, sticking with certain proportions would also simplify shoes and other accessories I suppose?
Thank you kindly! I appreciate you comment :) So I do laundry fairly frequently as a family of three! I think it's totally up to everyone whether or not they want or need duplicates and how much laundry they do! I do have one method that I'll explain in an upcoming video that makes duplicates not necessary for me personally, but honestly, completely understand that each person is going to have different needs when it comes to their wardrobes. :)
This is such an interesting concept, Thankyou for sharing. I think I have been doing an informal/unintentional version of this with my wardrobe for years but random clothing items always creep in…formalising a system may just be the piece of the puzzle I need to kick my consumption habit for good!
This is EXACTLY why I produce this content. Honestly, I didn't know if anyone would find it valuable, but comments like these inspire me to continue! I am so glad you found it helpful
I found this helpful. Thanks for sharing. I do have a question though. Do you do laundry every day? Or how often does that happen? Because of the minimalist nature, i do wonder how often the clothes are washed so you can wear them again.
I ask because i very much want a minimalist wardrobe. But i live in Asia. Very hot and humid. And i don't think i wanna do laundry several times a week. That seems wasteful to me.
Hi! Currently I do laundry twice a week (that's for my fam of 3). I will explain in an upcoming video one trick I use to give myself more options in my minimal wardrobe. I don't think I did a good job explaining it in this video. To briefly explain, I make sure every adjacent category can work for said category. For example, my dressed up shirt needs to be able to also be worn in an every day setting (I would just pair it with an every day pair of bottoms). This way, I have more than enough clothes to get me through! Hope that makes sense, and if not, I will do a detailed explanation in an upcoming video. :)
It is important to think how we choose (and have to) dress... and to establish our personal rules... every person in unique. Your rules for me, just for me, are incredibile... i would never be able to go out of my house with such a little amount of clothes. But this is the beauty of variety, and to have a look of another person mindset or "ragionamenti" when it come to dress is very opening my mind.
I totally get you on wanting all the cute clothes, but also knowing what a huge mental stress that is, it's not worth it. All this year I've been on a no buy and gradually selling and donating clothes because I just have an absolutely overwhelming amount of clothing and I want that mental stress gone, I'm sick of it. Most of my clothing didn't even get worn anyway, so it's just hoarding pretty things at that point. Although I'd like my final wardrobe to be a bit larger than yours (I live in an area with 4 seasons and a long winter), I like the considerations you've made for each category.
I so understand you! I have been in your position before. If you feel like it's time, go for it, and begin that decluttering process! Totally understand needing a bigger wardrobe; this was simply just meant to give some ideas and someone could adapt a few of these principles in their own wardrobes if they found them intriguing!
I am trying to downsize my large wardrobe. I have a question, how do you make it through the week with just this number of pieces of clothing? Do you have to do laundry every night? Thank you.
Hello! I do laundry twice a week currently for my fam of 3. I actually have gotten that question quite a bit, so I am going to do a dedicated video on how this is sustainable for me! Stay tuned :)
This is really brilliant! Thank you for sharing! It might have been direct inspiration for me when I was younger and still lived in Canada. As I age (and I honestly didn't use to believe in this) it have just hit a level of contrast loss where I can no longer wear black!!!! (Sigh!) The one question I have about it is the lack of back-ups. How can you have just one set of active wear and one set of pyjamas per season? I realise you doubtless have a dryer (which I do not, living where I now live) but I still couldn't manage. I am not criticising, I'm just very curious about your system for managing that. I'd love to see your outer garments, I will definitely be sharing with my mother, who is still in Canada. Regarding weight, I don't know where you have been on your journey in the past, but you certainly have an enviable figure now! Your back looks amazing in that dress! It's beautiful, by the way. Nice that you can swap with a friend.
I'm so glad you enjoyed! Thank you for your thoughtful question; it's a bit hard to describe in words, but I make sure every adjacent category can also be well suited to the category at hand. This can mean that my dressed down tops/bottoms need to also double as loungewear. My loungewear needs to double as pyjamas. I hope that makes sense! That's how I get away with less :)
I will need to do another video explaining this fully, but I basically pull from the adjacent categories (in the case of loungewear, I would either wear my pyjamas or my dressed down clothing).
I think this structured system would make getting dressed so much easier in the morning. Im going to try it out myself. I just don't understand how you only have one pair of pajamas for the whole week?
Let me know how it goes! Also, completely understand when it comes to pjs. I don't actually wear them to bed; they're almost more of a novelty item in my wardrobe. If you wear pjs to bed every night, completely understand having more!
It definitely works for me, but completely understand how this system wouldn't work well for everyone! I made it in hopes people found value in some small detail of the video, and they could implement that in their own wardrobes (if they felt called to!).
I find your "strict criteria" approach very inspiring. I've been confused with an ever expanding collection of random things, and I respect the sense you have imposed on this!
Thanks! It's just what is working for me right now. Hopefully one day I won't need that self discipline, but in this phase of life I certainly do!
This is extremely satisfying and makes so much sense to me

I am so glad you liked it! I love the capri life, but not many others do (which I totally understand!).
What happens when you put your only set of loungewear in the wash? Don’t you need at least two sets to rotate?
I will need to do another video explaining this fully, but I basically pull from the adjacent categories (in the case of loungewear, I would either wear my pyjamas or my dressed down clothing).
@ I see. Thanks.
Capri tesoro! Come l'isola italiana, non Caprì (che in Italia è pure un formaggio😅)

With these limited options laundry would need to be done frequently and I cannot see this working for certain materials very well…..
It definitely works for me, but completely understand how this system wouldn't work well for everyone! I made it in hopes people found value in some small detail of the video, and they could implement that in their own wardrobes (if they felt called to!).
