This is motivation for me to get my culled games out. Unlike you all I don't have time to play the games I have, and thinning down to games that might actually get played and creating space like you have here, will make finding and playing much more enjoyable. Congrats on the progress!

I wondered what a collection of 500+ games looks like in a house/basement. Interested to see what this space looks like after you get your new shelves upstairs.

No matter the collection size, organization and finding space to put them always seems to be a challenge.
I always try to keep my collection to around 100 and organizing those is always a mission.
Love the long form content! Fun to just hang out sometimes.

I felt this! I started trying to reorganize my basement so I could film videos at home. However, after two months, I’m still doing the overwhelmed leg pat. Great work to get as far as you have!

CLZ games may help you out a ton. We have 6000+ books and use CLZ books to keep organized. You can inventory your collection and add in a location system.

This video was very timely...over the past couple of months I bought four games and then three games that I'd crowdfunded showed up. Oops! You've inspired me to reorganize things and maybe sell a few more games. Congrats on getting everything up off the floor!

I think the interesting thing with this size of a collection is not so much the unplayed games but how many games have only gotten a single play. We’ve recently have started to play all the 1 and done games to see if they are worth keeping. Not as daunting a task with a third of the games
I don’t think there’s as many 1 play games as you think. And also, that doesn’t bother us. We like collecting, so we never see this as an issue.
you can still walk around in the room, that means you still space for more games.

It seems like there's a need for more Kallax cubes so that more sorting can occur.
And more whiteboards that can be used for lists, like upcoming games. Who doesn't like a good list?
Also lots of conventions do sales/charity/giveaways. That might be something to look into if the "hassle" of selling is the barrier to trimming up the collection a bit.
Edit: And the best thing is that the games you love but don't play will get played.
Also, if you track your plays you can do a Christmas Cull, where you look at games you havent played in the last 1, 2, or 3 years and then cull them or set a goal of playing them in the next X months or cull them in the summer. It helps the uncomfortable feeling of being overwhelmed by games by really making you confront clutter vs. collection.
We don’t cull massively, so not really something we are interested in doing. We will cull small bits as we see fit though! We don’t feel uncomfortable with our games or unplayed games at all honestly

Oh man, I understand getting nervous about the evergrowing collection. 2024 is going to be the year that I start culling games, because I don't get excited anymore when I get a new board game but it kind of stresses me out so yeah: time to cull ;-)

You and Jeff should make a video where you both go back and forth keeping a game. Up to 100-120 games. Then cull the rest. Easiest way to organize :)

i just keep my top 25, it was really hard but now i love it
I don't think I can get down to 25 but I was over 150 at one point and down to 60 now!
There are many games I would like to own, but I always ask myself whether I would get to actually play them. As my kids are older now, and leaving for college, we are having fewer and fewer game nights and I find it difficult to justify to continue to buy games I am not likely to get to play. One game I really wanted to buy in 2022 is still unopened, never been played, for example. It is hard to stop buying but I feel I have to find a way to cut back…
Have you tried solo gaming? Looking for a local gaming group? Tried to introduce some friends? Alternatively- you could perhaps make a rule that you can’t buy any more until you play what’s in your current collection? Totally understand your plight. Just do whatever makes sense for you, your situation and what brings you the most joy :)

My collection has grown by about 50 games or so lately, also got new shelves. Technically, the games are on the shelf but not organized. I'm resisting organizing.

So many games... at some point I decided to draw a line at 300 games because too many games I loved I did not get to play anymore. I know that for you it is more than just a hobby, you have reviews to do, and you probably love a lot of the games you review, but when do you play those games a second or third or fourth time... I have to admit though... seeing all those games it is tempting to forget about my line... Funny thing is that I know you will get a 100+ new games a few months later...
We don’t really think of it that way. We like to collect, and hope to some day open a small cafe. I understand lots of folks see this and think “you can’t possibly play all of those!” But, we play a LOT of games, and we don’t mind to have such a large collection. It brings us joy

I'm curious... my collection at this point has 153 base games (according to BGG!), with probably another 13 or so either on the way, pending crowdfunding distribution, or on hold with game retailers because they're preorders-and I 100% can't play through my collection within a full year.
Obviously there are other considerations when you're a content creator, with lots of stuff cycling through, but I wonder-when you have so many games, especially when there are so many not with a spot on the shelf, why not a more periodic cull? There's the pile for games to be donated, of course, but I'm curious why so many are kept when I have no doubt you have even more time constraints to play games multiple times than a non-content creator like myself.
I guess the most simple answer is, we like to collect? And yes - there’s a lot not on shelves right now, but we mention in the video we are having shelves built. I guess for us, we just don’t see it as a major problem. Eventually we will need to cull more, but we won’t until we have to.
@@FostertheMeeple Sure sure-hadn't gotten to the part of the video yet where you mentioned the new shelves. That's great that you're able to do that! :)
And collecting is a fair answer, for sure-I lean more that way with books and films, since each individual item takes less space. Plus I have enough games on my shelf that are unplayed after multiple years (looking at you, Viticulture!) that I try to be stricter with games, but if you've got the room-go to town!

Morning. My issue is...If you don't display your holiday decorations all year long. Why are the holiday board games always displayed. Why not have a season shelf (on top of the kallax) that the games go away into storage when it isn't the season.
Why can’t we display our games the way we want to display them, and others display their games the way they want to?
What is y'all's game count right now? Have y'all thought about adding a shelf above the desk? I feel a lot better now. I have to organize our room again.
We are somewhere between 800-900! As Jamie mentioned in the video, we are waiting on production to finish on some built in shelves, we will soon have lots of space :)

Buy more games and not have space
For Acquire the game is not good at two. Its too easy to figure out the math at 2. Best at 4 if you want a competitive game. Unfortunately new versions of Acquire are really horrible quality. I have 3 copies of the game, two of which are 30+ years old. The old ones are the best ones to have.

What if we don’t want to cull? Because we like collecting?
