1080p HD!
An hour at Stratford International station in East London, located on High Speed One, the mainline between London St Pancras, Ashford, The Channel Tunnel & Europe. This was filmed during the evening peak, rush hour. It features some empty stock South Eastern High Speed, class 395 "Javlin" movements, passing through the disused platforms and the through lines at Stratford and lots of peak time doubled up 12-car services. Also plenty of Eurostar's heading in & out of London, some of the new Eurostar "E320" trains as well as the older style class 373's!
The speed of some of the passing services is truly phenomenal, great to witness and always turns heads on the platform when the Eurostars hammer it by!

You can't beat the sound of the old Eurostar trains.

The sound of a 373 speeding past is the closest thing to audio heaven for me.
Those Javelin trains sound really good as they pull away.

Yeah I love the javelins one!They look better then the other southeastern In like Lee or Charing Cross
And plus it god way faster

They look and sound like toy trains to me.
It looks funny to see the trains entering the tunnel on your zoom lens; the way it reduces distances, it makes it look like the train is almost falling off a cliff. I'd never noticed how much the tracks decline at that point. Also nice to see platofrm 1 being used, albeit for an "Out of Service" train.
Even the e300 373’s don’t sound as good as the unrefurbished sets. 7:39 that was incredible
HS1 seems to be a hugely successful route.
I really wanted HS2 to be plugged into this to provide a direct link between the South-East, to the Midlands and the North via Stratford 'International'.
Would've made a lot of sense.

Stratford Int'l on our HS1 route. Nice track side footage, showing the slope of the tracks. I have done the HS1 on a Eurostar to Lile Europe, from St Pancras. stopping at Ebbsfleet Int'l Racing through Ashford.
Everything is diesel in the U S...Trolley lines use electricity...Can't believe we have so few high speed services...Very cool video...

Class 373 trains are the Eurostar trains, Siemens never had a look in. It was UK / France consortium that built those trains. Now its bog standard. The 90s were so diverse.

The Javelin well very impressed what a nice machine also the Eurostar not seen the Javelin in action before sadly in West Wales where I live one fine day we will have Electric trains on the GWR Line to Swansea but not sure when ? lol

Do love the old Eurostar units when they whoosh past. The new ones are smart but don't have the same audio impact.
They were to be used by Eurostar during the Olympics but they were not in the end, they may be used by Eurostar and peak South eastern services in the future.
Apparently, the outer platforms were built to continental standard. So while a Eurostar would be fine to stop there (which they normally don't), it would be harder for Javelins to take on passengers or let them off since their dorrs are higher.

I see two 'high speed' Eurostars passing slowly through the station... the joys of having slow Javelins share the same line no doubt. I thought that was a bad idea when they mooted it some time ago.
I assume the new Eurostar E320s are built to the larger loading gauge found in most of Europe, meaning these trains can't be used beyond HS1 in the UK (until HS2 arrives) unlike the 373s?

Why are there 2 extra platforms if they are always blocked off? It has the signs, clock and Departure Board So it Should Still be in use.
They may be used by Eurostar and peak time South eastern services in the future.
just wondering, Do the staff at that station let you sign in to take pics say if you have come from stratford national or are they not so nice and you have to come on a 395 ?
i hope they give you a platform ticket, i was at Stratford International 3 weeks ago and i was kind of begging my mum to let me ask them if i could see the Javelin. but next year im gonna go on one myself! thats even better

Can you go there with just like an ordinary ticket or travelcard or Oyster or whatever? You don't need a special ticket or anything?

Class 395 They are. The 395's were using it as a place to stay whilst that empty stock went by.
The Javelin train can travel at 140 mph but i heard it's restricted to 125mph, but the Eurostar on the same track travels at 186mph, it doesnt make sense to me? Does anyone know more?
Javelin's can do 140mph in the tunnels and also through the station if they are on the avoid lines. Whereas Javelin's are timed to stop at intermediate stops, Eurostar services are usually direct without the need to slow down so are allowed to reach 186mph as they do not have to stop from this speed. If a Javelin could do 186mph, it wouldn't stop in time for Ebsfleet or Stratford....

Actually letting a late running train past it on opposite track before it moves off again. I work on hs1 and they do it all the time
JavozREKZ / REKZboss its not stopping for the train station it came off a set of points to let another train pass trough cant u see the javelin thats waiting on the right track in 6:22? Ive seem them do it all the time i come here
When did those yellow strips on the sides of the nose become standard?
They give the train a catfish like appearance.
i think its so that people don't get confused between the Javelin and the Class 800

Ah, it's worth it a lot. Same prices for everywhere on the NR network, and Stratford regional is a 2 min walk round the corner if you're interested - also worth it. But no problem :)
surprised how fast they are going through Stratford
+s125ish I think they can theoretically do the full 186mph through Stratford, they're just usually a little slower because they're either braking for St. Pancras, or still accelerating.
+SadPanda926 No, track limit is 140mph between St Pancras and Ebbsfleet.
+alfievision For javelins it is since it's their max speed. I'm guessing it's increasing to 200 for the E320s and they can accelerate quicker.
It's 186mph after Ebbsfleet to Ashford, but because of the tunnel design restrictions from Stratford to Dagenham it is definitely 140mph.
Ah, I see. The speeds do seem fairly similar but that's because I thought they were still accelerating.
I'd like to see one of those fuckers come by at max speed!
Im actually happy they made the new eurostars i was getting abit tired of the old ones (not the refurbished version)

I agree. And the new Eurostar paint, on the front of the cab, is horrible. But hey, everything needs an upgrade eventually
best leave your camera on standard focal length, all that zooming in when they are far off kills the effect of high speed. everybody knows what they look like close up so let them just come and go into frame naturally. respect for standing around all that time tho, haha, funny enough, has anybody noticed that the new HST doesn;t have that lovely sonic booming as it passes ??
