Trains at Stratford International - 15/11/16

- Video: A busy evening rush hour spotting Eurostar and Southeastern trains at Stratford International, all the way until the final Eurostar arrival from Brussels (Eurostar 9161). This is the first spot I've done at this station all year, and it to took some getting used to again as I've mainly just been spotting Eurostars at their top speeds all year, so to see them a bit slower at 140mph was a game changer. I managed to catch some rare/interesting sights of Eurostar e320 drivers turning the headlights from high beam floodlights to low beams when passing, an old 373 Eurostar slamming its brakes on as it passed through leaving a small trail of steam, non stopping Javelins and some Temple Mills depot bound Eurostars.

Eurostar Class 373 TGV TMST 'e300s' (incl. newly refurbished e300s) & Class 374 Velaros 'e320s' and Southeastern Class 395 Javelins.

I prefer the older Eurostars. Sure the new ones have their advantages, but the older look better - a real shame that they're being scrapped!
That's not all true. Eurostar still have 8 remaining TMST sets, and the refurbished ones are quite nice. They are much more modern and clean than the un-refurbished ones, and the seats are just as comfy. (more comfy than an e320 for sure). I think they also have 2 un-refurbished sets as spares.
When the Class 395 accelerates, it sounds like it's changing gear though it's an electric train.
You can also feel it.
I took a ride on one a few weeks ago and it was genuinely good shocking to me how it almost pushes you back in your seat.
I've felt that in plenty of cars before but never trains lol
It's probably the field weakening in the electric motors. It makes the motor faster and less torquey, similar to what mechanical gear upshifts do.
Impressive stuff, the older Eurostar sets I recall well from my days as a motorman on what's now SouthEastern. They as you know were built by Metro-Cammell's old works. It doesn't seem that long ago I saw them running on the 3rd rail, and now, some are being scrapped. The replacements are all made abroad, we don't have the firms to build them anymore. You'd think for the price they charge, the Javelins would have nicer, more comfy seats, like the Phase one CIG units did. Some of my colleagues went to EuroStar, and they'd always blow up and wave when they saw me going down to the Sussex Coast on the old MK1 EMUs I worked on. Happy days.

You are my hero!If it weren't for you:1. I would've never heard of the class 395 javelin2. Would've never known what 300kmph looks like in hd3. 373 at 300kmph would not be my favorite sound.

the trains in this video are not faster than 225km/h. Stratford international is not where they can go full speed.
@@ZRHTrainspotter I was referring to the channel as a whole. There are videos of trains at full speed on the channel.

The 465/0/1 originally had the Brush Motors. In the late 2000s they were taken out for Hitachi ones. So in real the 395 motors came first
@@levichalcraft8702 465s still have brush motors, but they now share the same hitchi inverters

In my opinion, I think the new Eurostar livery suits the TMST sets quite well. I don't think that their new livery looks as good on the e320. Wish they would have done somethings like the FGW dynamic lines, but with silver. I just think it would suit the overall look of the e320 better.
