    I love commanders like these because they make you play cards you usually wouldn't. Cards like Contraband Livestock and Infernal Genesis. I have a plague of Vermin in mine, couple with an alter of the brood or Gruesome fate for an easy 2 card win provided your commander is out, this seems really fun.

    With Excise the Imperfect, I'd consider switching it out for Unyielding Gatekeeper. Excise the Imperfect makes target opponent Incubate X, which would be great, but you're only getting the token generation from that process, not the +1/+1 counters. It's great if you have a static banner effect that gives +x/+x to other creatures on the board after you transform the incubator token, but that's very niche.
    Unyielding Gatekeeper is very flexible. It can flicker a thing you control, OR exile a thing an opponent controls to give them a 2/2, all the while being effectively unstoppable outside of stifle effects, since turning a creature face up is a special action that doesn't use the stack (meaning it gets around split second, since split second only stops spells and ACTIVATED abilities, not triggered abilities). It's only downside is that it's fairly telegraphed.

    • @OnlyLands-MTG
      @OnlyLands-MTG  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't even think about the fact that we aren't creating the token in the same way so excise the imperfect just gives us a useless artifact token that's definitely a good catch. I'm not sure if i love unyielding gatekeeper though its essentially 5 mana for a flexible flicker/removal spell that doesn't really feel worth it to me even given the fact it is hard to interact with. I will def look for a replacement for excise though.

      @@adamsapple1982 if you haven't seen it already (I'm sure you have), Parting Gust from Bloomburrow is a near perfect replacement. Doesn't hit as many things as Unyielding Gatekeeper, or Excise the Imperfect, but gifts a fish token to exile a creature permanently, or you can forego the gift to get a flicker effect that could save one of your creatures from removal.

    Nice video, It's cool how you built around a commander that most people during spoiler season just wrote off as " bad commander but good in the 99" and on top of that made a deck with some really interesting synergies, it's a bit of a monolith commander but the list looks super fun. Also I don't know if you take suggestions but can you make a Loot, the key to everything deck? I'm struggling to actually find a wincon for the deck.

    • @OnlyLands-MTG
      @OnlyLands-MTG  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hahaha I love breaking weird janky commanders so this guy was right up my alley. It is kind of a monolith commander but it's also kind of a group hug deck and he's only 3 mana so he doesn't get targetted too hard and you can usually replay him once or twice without being too upset. I think with loot you want to be focusing on "cast from exile" synergies using like passionate archeologist and lean into cards that let you play extra land drops. Loot didn't interest me too much just felt kind of generic but you should check out my friend @decktechsfordecks he did a great deck tech for Loot built around landfall!

    I played against this commander 3 time on cockatrice, and i'd say that nowaday, a lot of deck make tokens, even if they don't have any real synergies with it. Also not that the second ability on kambal is no joke since you constantly drain the table

    • @OnlyLands-MTG
      @OnlyLands-MTG  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That vamp is great but doesn't necessarily synergize with the commander it's just a good card though. he is also pretty pricey so didnt think he was worth but if you have one he's a great upgrade. I didn't feel like we had consistent enough treasure production for manufactor but if you are in a treasure heavy playgroup def slot him in.

    Alright, the last three deck ideas I've had you came out with videos for within the same week. If you don't chill out people are going to think I'm ripping you off lol.
    I'm glad you explained Alliance of Arms, I wrote that one off because I misread it and thought that players only made tokens based on what they paid in. Do you think it's worth it to have Reduce to Memory though? Though the flexibility is nice, it hurts me to have non-instant speed interaction at this price...I was thinking Transmogrifying Wand since it's repeatable but I dunno...
    I was surprised that suture priest didn't make the cut in your build as redundancy if Kambal isn't staying on the board for one reason or another. Also, where's Tombstone Stairwell? That thing is dirty as hell in this deck.
    Anyway another great video, keep it up.

    • @OnlyLands-MTG
      @OnlyLands-MTG  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think reduce to memory being exile, hits any nonland permanent and gives us a 3/2 body makes it worth. I would play a 3 mama 3/2 creature that exiles a nonland permanent and gives them a 3/2 instead on ETB so that's how I was thinking about it. I agree sorcery speed hurts but we still have plenty of other instant speed removal so I didn't think it hurt us to run it.
      I didn't include suture priest because I want to be able to feign that I am helping others when I give tokens. With suture priest AND Kambla in play people are going to give you a lot more negative attention when they are losing 2 life per token you give them. Might not actually be an issue in practice and it is def powerful so I could totally be wrong to exclude it.
      Tombstone stairwell is pricey and not a lot of people own one so they are hard to find. I typically try not to include cards like that in my lists for TH-cam but it is amazing here you are right!

      @scottcho7064 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OnlyLands-MTG All good points, well said. I guess in a lot of ways Reduce to Memory functions like a Skyclave apparition when you frame it that way.
      Yeah the stairwell went through the roof in the last month...annoying lol. Was going to ask you: Do you know if the tokens you make from Kambal's ability get destroyed as part of the end step trigger?

    • @OnlyLands-MTG

    • @OnlyLands-MTG

    why not toxrill instead of the worm?

    • @OnlyLands-MTG
      @OnlyLands-MTG  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Two reasons. 1. Toxrill has an ability that costs Blue Black to activate which means his color identity is Dimir not mono black so you cannot legally play Toxrill in a deck that does not have blue AND black in the color identity which this deck does not. 2. Toxrill doesn't kill our opponents when their creatures die just makes us slugs.

    I feel like everyone’s focusing far too much on giving tokens away and forgetting what happens if Kambal isn’t out. After a game or two, your play group will know to keep him dead to ruin your deck

    • @OnlyLands-MTG
      @OnlyLands-MTG  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My goal with this deck was to make it so I am helping my opponents or at least am able to leverage the tokens I'm giving away for political favors ideally lowering the number of people who want to kill Kambal. Luckily he is only 3 MV so recasting him once or twice if really necessary will probably be possible. Also hopefully there are enough effects that drain opponents when their creatures die like massacre wurm and vein ripper so giving them creatures even when you aren't getting them in the late game won't be too detrimental. Hopefully you have enough of a life buffer from draining all game that you can afford to still give away creatures and then kill those creatures for enough damage to close out the game. You could be right though if a playgroup knows what you are up to you might start getting more attention, depends how many other scary commanders are at the table. You're welcome to build him however you like this just made sense to me and felt strong in playtesting.

    • @chrismirati2106
      @chrismirati2106 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree kill the commander and the deck just crumbles, whenever I build decks you need to think of your commander like icing on the cake not needed but nice when they stick around

    • @OnlyLands-MTG
      @OnlyLands-MTG  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @chrismirati2106 I dont think the deck crumples without Kambal. This deck wins by generating a critical mass of bodies on the board. If you have most of those bodies that's great but if your opponents have them all that's fine too. Vein ripper and massacre wurm are gonna kill people either way. Like I said in the video Kambal is basically just a token doubler with a little drain attached he isn't crucial to winning just makes it much much easier.
