There are also autistic people with high IQ and they don't seem to autistic at surfuse level stuff. And they seem neurotypical in everyday live activities.

I do realize Latinos, us Mexicans specifically, oftentimes really don't mind stereotypical depictions (we famously begged American broadcasts to keep airing Speedy González, for example). However, we're not a monolith, and I've definitely seen fellow Latino/Mexican folks be very deeply affected by depictions like these. The fanfic is so very painfully 2010's Tumblr White Fan, even though the author meant no ill will I think we absolutely have the conversation about how this nerd subculture treated racial and sexual minorities .
Well, the preachers also used the whole "As a mexican!" argument to get irrationally pissy at a fanfic whose worst crime would be _being bland,_ in all honesty. while i do enjoy a lot of works that tend to be canon-adjacent, i don't think that should be _all_ of what fanfic is. if that was the case, then it wouldn't be as interesting. it's like eating a burger for every meal, every day; it's going to get boring. AUs exist for a reason, they're insanely popular for a reason, and i do quite enjoy shoving characters into universes that are completely different to their source material to see how they react. that being said, i do agree that characterization must be done right, but that should be a given with _every_ fanfic, otherwise you just have a story with characters that happen to have names similar to ones in a given piece of media. i think characterization is the important bit, not the universe it's set in
Listen this specific fandom was pretty wacky with how they handled things but fanfic is an outlet it allows people to have characters they like and put them in a scenario that they find fun and interesting yeah sure characterization might not be one to one but sometimes you just have to move past it there are a lot of people who are newer to this kind of thing and are getting used to characters personalities by writing fanfics but the take of “fanfic has to be one to one with the tone and genre” is just boring ngl cause say you have a horror franchise and you really like two specific characters as a pairing together if someone wants to write say a romance in a modern setting with them I don’t see a harm it doesn’t have to be another horror story
