Improve Your Defense in Two Minutes - Quick Guide for SFV Defensive Options

  • It's no secret that SFV is a game where defensive options are limited by design but it doesn't mean that the game always ends up in a 50/50 guess situation. There are many options that you can use to escape the common guess situation in this game. By mixing these defensive options, it should be difficult for the opponent to catch you every time. This might be a very short video but it should give you some ideas on what you might miss in the defensive approach.

@@jeremiahwise2076 His first language isn;t English, he gets a break for not phrasing things in an absolutely concise fashion. And again, you're ignoring the context provided by the 2nd half of the sentence. "I have to guess, block or throw tech?" is pretty obviously asking if there are only two options to choose from while "I have to guess" is you making up something to criticize him for when he's making good content for your scrub ass to learn from.
Calling me mad won't win you any fights here bub, I really think you should consider tic tac toe if solved games and preschool insults are all you can grasp. Go ahead, do it again I'm sure it'll make you right this time!

@@qfrostbite5041 "Preschool insults"? I didn't even say anything the slightest bit hostile. You seem to be the one with an emotional stake in this, what with the "competitive tic tac toe" "scrub ass" and "bub". Context or no context, every thing he teaches in this is another coin flip decision. If you're making any kind of assumption about what I meant then that is on you.
To be clear, ADDITIONAL COIN FLIPS will certainly help, but any sort of defense against this fundamental flaw of the fighting game genre being riddled with coin flips, especially from wake-up, is simply a weak one. I prefer skill over guessing, which is why I prefer (The mostly disliked) parry system of Third Strike over the defensive options of most other games.
Pros like to dump on Third Strike's parry system because its the end all be all best defensive option by far, but those same pros can't even come close to being able to parry even half of all attacks thrown at them, weakening the validity of their complaint. Skillful inputs are more interesting than reads, especially in fighting games with bigger combo strings where guessing wrong results in you setting your controller on the floor for 10 seconds while the opponent slaps over 50% of your health away.
So you go ahead and keep enjoying the game, just like I do, but lets not get emotional over criticising a game over it's inferior defensive options.

Quickrise is about 5 frames faster than backrise (Can't confirm the hard numbers right now, this was just a quick google search), so any option that covers both will have a frame gap if you quickrise. @@floofyharu5875 The term "Meaty" is used to describe an attack that hits the opponent very late, which is most easily done while they're waking up from a knockdown. The benefits to this include beating an opponent whos mashing (in lower ranks they almost always mash) or in the case that they block it, they get to be stuck in the normal amount of blockstun while you recover from your attack animation faster than usual.
A "shimmy" is pretty straightforward. As your opponent is getting up, you make your character walk backwards a split second before walking forwards and throwing them. This beats people who like to mash throw on their wakeup, since you step just outside their throw range before tossing them, and it also psyches out those trying to block. The name comes from the fact that you're literally making your character shimmy back and forth.
And by Juri stuff, do you mean specific terms people use when talking about her, or are you just asking about general tips and tricks?
