Pink Floyd have created so many amazing tracks, so many works of absolute genius, but in my humble opinion, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever created. It may not have the epic guitar solo of Comfortably Numb, or the vocal power of The great gig in the sky, but from the very first haunting note of the guitar, it grabs your soul and proceeds to gently rip it apart. Gilmore's smooth voice, the lyrics, the guitar, the progression... everything just flows so beautifully.

The beginning solo you can close your eyes and be in the dark and it sounds cosmic; starts out slow and then gets faster and confident, like coming back to life, overcoming a bad situation perhaps. Really? They had Clare Torry on Great Gig.

Best way to get an idea of pre or post Roger Waters song is the directness of the lyrics and the stronger hopefulness...both are melancholy but David's songs are less cynical...this song would not fit nearly as well on Dark Side but right in line with The Division Bell or Momentary Lapse of Reason
