About the part where they talk about combat, I think they’re just missing part of the systems. It’s not impossible to go hitless. After you dodge an attack, you’re given that slow motion window where you can tap X and it’ll give you another dodge using the web, and you can easily hit another dodge by the time you’ve moved out of the way. The gadgets are also huge for stunning enemies and stopping incoming punches/gunfire
The not-Spider-Man sequences would’ve been better as one-offs, specifically the one with the penthouse and Rhino. They’d be more polished and remembered more fondly if they didn’t oversaturate them as much as they did.

The combat looks amazing when you know every single thing you can do. My first play through was fairly smooth but my new game plus a year later was crazy. Spoodlerman was zipping and zooming everywhere, jumping off dudes, off walls, pulling them up in the air, swing kicking them and then ground pounding to knock them down before swinging a grenade around half a dozen times to keep them down and blowing it up in an enemy's face. It feels great when you pull it off like that
i swear most movies and some games do that nowadays in the trailers they feel they have to put like every single of the best bits in to hook you in and then you watch/play it and you are disappointed...
I like how a lot of Spider-Man villains are science experiments gone wrong, it fits thematically with Peter himself. Responsibility and accountability on a micro and macro level, abusing power in the broadest sense possible. I think Mr. Freeze and Vulture should trade villain roles between Spider-Man and Batman.
Yeah but Spider-Man has so many of those, it's kinda lame, and not many of them have unique or interesting personalities to compensate. Like majority of Batman's villains could be boiled down to a generic description like "ingenious people who went nuts and adapted a certain quirk" but the difference is the variety of their personalities, what aspects of Batman's being they challenge etc. Batman despite being a superhero, a compassionate, selfless, man of honor and order, is a dark, shadowy, stoic demon looking man and his arch enemy is a colorful, charismatic, funny clown who despite all of that is a sadistic monster. Joker is a high tier nihilist who sees the world as so meaningless that you might as well make a parody of it, he doesn't respect the world's rules enough to follow them and seeing Batman, someone who is as theatrical and as radical as he is, just in the opposite way, brings him joy, and Joker tries to challenge Batman on a philosophical level. Batman wouldn't be half as effective if it wasn't for his ingenious tactics and deductions, but what if there was someone on that level who used it for wrong purposes? Riddler is an incredibly ingenious man who likes to put on the act of puzzles and solvable mysteries man, but is in fact a cheater who doesn't actually care about stimulating his brain, he cares about showing everyone how smart he is, so seeing someone presenting himself as the world's greatest detective immediately scratches his itch. Riddler tries to challenge Batman on an intellectual level. Despite the fact that majority of Batman's villains are highly intelligent, once it comes to a brawl after Batman figures out their tricks, he can just destroy them and apprehend them easily, but what if there was someone he couldn't? Bane, similarly to Bruce, was a child with a lot of trauma with identity crisis, but unlike Bruce, grew up in the dirt, and refused that dirt to engulf him, so he trained his mind and body to the absolute peak, similarly to Bruce. However Bane is actively adding poison to his body to make himself an immediate death sentence in a fair 1v1, but oh no, it doesn't stop there, Bane is also a master strategist, making him an ultimate challenge for Batman. Despite all of Batman's skills, he's still at the end of the day a mortal man, so he has to use some other clever tricks on order to make himself ingrained in the minds of psychos by turning himself into an urban myth, a fear, criminal boogeyman. Scarecrow however flips that notion on it's head, using everyone's fears to exploit them, showing what could Batman become if he was monstrous. You can keep going with these parallels all day, easily. With Spider-Man however, it's just like a scientist nerd who either uses science for evil or accidently gains powers and is using it for evil and characterization varies very sparingly also
Fun fact: Technically the Rhyno fight wasn't a ripoff of the Arkham Bane stuff. Arkham was actually the first to apparently be inspired by a previous Spider-Man game (I think AM 2?) and its (you guessed it) Rhyno fight. Regardless, loved this podcast. It always feels nice to hear Alex and the guys talk about stuff they genuinely enjoy.
I know im a bit late to this video, bit i just got to the gameplay section and youve just said there arent ways to shortcut your gadgets. I believe tapping L1 cycles you through the last few youve used like in Insomniacs Ratchet games. Using the right gadgets at the right times to web up enemies near cars and walls or even each other is basically how you should approach your battles, rather than focusing on depleting enemy hp. Web bomb and then the fus ro dah air blast near a wall one shots an entire group of enemies for instance.

Excellent is fighting Vergil for the final battle in Devil May Cry 3, excellent is fighting The Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3, masterpiece is fighting Armstrong in Revengeance, excellent is scaling and riding on the 5th colossus in Shadows of The Colossus, excellent is pretty much most of the bosses in Godhand.
