Great vid Rich! I really like the slo-mo and how you break it down. I've grown a lot as a rider with your help. One of my struggle areas is when there are multiple obstacles. I might get up the first one ok but then stall out on the second. Maybe a thought for a future show.

I hit up Shawnigan lake and Sooke this winter. Did some damage to the bike, had a blast, that said I didn't find it slick by my standards with the exception of ice flows. I was down when Victoria got those two dumps of snow in Jan. Honestly found it to be pretty grippy and good fun compared to what I am used to up north where it's mostly clay or loose gravel/glacial deposits.
Good stuff, hardly what i call winter here in the north-east though. I put out a video a little over a month ago of my birthday ride in about a foot of snow of varying freshness, some frustration, some joy, but an interesting experience all the same.
Nice video! Good explanation, with correct information. The key to these situations is the one thing you keep saying and I will repeat: MOMENTUM is key! Even if you make small mistakes while climbing, momentum will forgive some of these. Good job again, and I feel you with the camera thing. Same here! 😂 Keep it up. Regards from Greece

I'm surprised you recommend to fully release the clutch at any point during a slippery climb. You sound like a guy that has traction! Wish i could put you on a wet slick clay hill climb out east and see if you still think. I do agree that if your rpm isn't high enough and you're not slipping the clutch hardly at all, then you may benefit from fully releasing the clutch as it almost forces more power to the ground and can potentially result in more speed... However generally ive found it causes a break in traction more easily. And for c class rider like me , once i lose traction and my rear tire slides a foot dowm the side hill, im defeated at that point. So for me, when its slick, my clutch rarely gets fully released during a climb. If i can release clutch fully then i know its not slippery.
I’ve definitely spent time on the east. Raced/rode/trained. I’ve also raced on terrain slicker than the east…. Hawaii. It’s the same Only when you establish momentum is the clutch fully released or nearing the end of the friction zone. Could be that I’m establish more efficient momentum. Either way establishing the momentum is where important clutch control comes into play. After you’re up to speed, riding the end of the friction zone works. Thanks for watching

Here in the U.K. It's deep muddy and wet, I struggle in these conditions going down hill, I'm super nervous of tucking the front end and grab loads of front brake . Is speed your friend in these conditions. Love your videos mate.
Your mentioning how you use the clutch made me realize you don't say much about gearing and gears. Do you run stock gearing and when do use 1st vs 2nd?
Not related to your vid topic, but I couldn't help but notice just how much the rear did 'not' squat as much as one would expect on that rocky uphill. Do you find it a bit stiff for that terrain? It looks like it was stiff enough to not squat and apply traction.
I talk about this at the end of the video. I would soften it a little bit more although the mousse was modified for this terrain I’d want it even softer.
@@IRCTireUSAMoto I meant the actual shock (travel) itself. If you watch @5:25 through 5:35ish you can really see this. Especially the little 'splat' @5:33 it (appears to) barely even compress the suspension. It looks like the rear just bucks/deflects off each rock on the way up, when the suspension could have been helping out a bit by soaking some of those up.

Yeah, most of the time it’s a foot of snow here and no riding. We are at high elevation.

The reason to be off the clutch in slime is because it's hard to tell the difference between a slipping clutch and a spinning wheel.

Yeah, I bled them into a couple other things ended up making them work better. It’ll be in a video early next month.
