How to Make Your Own Animated Series: Don’t Ruin the First Episode

- So I'm about 30 episodes deep into my animated series Somewhere in Nowhere, and there are a LOT of things I wish I would have known before starting my own animated series. This video goes over all of the lessons learned from 30 episodes. From character rigs to software to audio, I go over quite a bit.
The last tip hits hard, because i have so many unfinished projects and some that are just text notes.
I found this at the perfect time. Im currently making my first object show episode, and i feel like this will help a ton.
oh wow me too!! good luck on yours :)
@@asa_andromeda thanks!
legit same, i'm working on my first episode, i hope good luck for y'alls object shows as well
@@40Ccents I wish you luck as well!
Same bro! Except I’m working on my second episode. I wish you all good luck on your object shows!
I really need to keep that last tip in mind because I procrastinate TOO much! I just daydream about the shows and characters Im making instead of working on anything, because the moment i realize I'll have to make a hundred shitty projects to make one decent project I instantly give up:/
Even though i'm not an animator, I found the audio tips (especially with recording voices) very helpful!
Your pacing and comedic timing got better too
Thanks for sharing this! Lesson 6 is especially important to me. I'm scared of making a bad cartoon, so I've only attempted very small projects so far. Here's to hoping I build up the courage like you did some day.
Thanks for your advice
Thank you for making this! As somebody who's lacked any motivation to make another big animated project (despite having a very clear idea for one), this definitely helped inspire me a bit. I've also been a fan of your cartoons since the beginning - I remember thinking "Okay this has massive potential to be the next Homestar but it definitely needs some polish." I especially thought this for the audio quality. Really respectable to see how much you've taken critiques from your family and from people online.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you Ben!! I’m excited to see what your next big project looks like.
I don’t use Flash, but I decided to watch this video anyways because I like seeing other workflows and tips from animators.
That last tip is extra important. Sometimes, we just have to make something without fear of failing. It’s better to have something than nothing at the end of the day. I started my current cartoon with the intent of it being really messy and “bad on purpose”, but it’s become a project near and dear to my heart.
Nice video! I hope it helps many others to start their own projects.
This is helpful
I litteraly found this at the right time. I plan to make a show soon, so this info will definitely help out alot.
Been watching your show since I saw it on the Homestar Runner subreddit years ago.
You do it for the love of it and I think it shows, in a timeless way.
Thank you for this video. I'm more of a 3d animator, but this is useful information
Very helpful. Thank you!
You're so underrated man, this will really help me with my comics...
thank you, random recommended internet stranger! i am making videos in 3D style, but most of your advices was invaluable. will wait for a new series of The Green Show!
This is weirdoy convenient! Have plans for my own pilot,, will be helpful
Great share and awesome learning tips...
WOWOW THANKS YAY
Ngl, i had no idea what i was doing with my show and its going well so far, 😂
I love all the shorts but man I'd love to see full on 5-10 minute episodes to unleash the full potential
Great insight on the tiny nuances of animating! God, I hate audio mixing, man, I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with that. I'll check out the green show!
This was pretty cool, had no idea what all went into to an episode
I plan on making an Indie show, and this video was very helpful. I have 2 questions for you.
1. What are your tips on music. I don't have instruments or anything at home. I don't know how to compose music. And I have almost no budget. I feel like music is very important in a cartoon. How do I make good music for my cartoon on a low budget?
2. How do I get publicity? I want my pilot to be popular?
Thank you for reading. I plan on watching your show soon. Its ok if you can't answer these questions.
lol today i was thinking "what if i make an animation where i get mauled by a bear and i say bro is da moneys"
really cool video, very helpful, also, did you know you can make symbols using symbols in adobe animate? this could help alot with moving the whole character becuase they can be contained in their own symbol, i didnt know about it when i first started using adobe and i think its a really good think to know becuase it alows you to have more layers in that symbol, it can also help with orgization, it also makes tweening alot easier
Hey this was really insightful! I'm learning 2d animation at the moment and when I start on a project I'll defo keep this in mind.
Good luck with your animated series!
Already did. Just getting people to know about it is the challenge...
thanks, I'm uploading mine soon...... its called ANTI FANTASY
This is insightful. I've wanted to start writing my own show for a while but I lack animation skills. However, this is some great tips for anyone starting out. Thanks!
If you ever want someone to voice a character btw 👀👀
Thank you so much, this is super helpful!!!!
I don't know how to use animation software so I'm using blender
It’s still animation software, just not 2d
Kid Chameleon nostalgia!
I would have a question, how do you plan and storyboard your Episodes? If you would answer my question i would really appreciate it, and keep it up your show looks awesome, need to check it out!👍
Great tips
Heck yeah dude
I dont even have a thought of naking a show but i find this bid interesting nontheless
This is great I love this alot Iam trying my own show as well lol 😢 its not easy at all
Hahaha im remaking mine in um this year. First full season being remade
Also, i may make a similar video soon going behind the scenes on 5:00 and tips i have
I need all the tips I can get
what is your best advice for making short little plots into longer form animations without running outta steam midway through writing the script ??
Be realistic an pace yuorself. If you are going to loose motivation then you scope is too big. Always think about what is the smallest the project could be.
You could also do MAPs Basically, a get-together or whatever that people can attend where they follow it a script or something or just freestyle from one animation.
(from what I heard)
Is that the Kid Chameleon - Woods OST?
Are you planning a series where you will review other people's cartoons and giving criticism?
can you make a more in deoth tutorial on syncing your animation when characters are talking, it would be very helpful to me as a beginner who wants to learn how. especally explaining the hotkeys and tools you use!
i cant learn it by watching other people because i use a literal editing software to animate. first epsiode is kinda crappy but i am already finished with it and im tooo lazy to start over.
Fr it really can be hard
thianks
ur what was pulled back?
Good thing that I
Do you have a discord server?
Nice nice nice nice
Its likerock paper scissors
I have no money, like, I'm using bandicam -_-
Just Do it
Smear frames
Bruh i am too late
What’s with the 30 second outro??? It’s a bit too long don’t you think?
No
Oops
what do you use to animate? Nevermind
If that makes you happy the rest won't matter
This show is the epotime of anti humor.
thank you, random recommended internet stranger! i am making videos in 3D style, but most of your advices was invaluable. will wait for a new series of The Green Show!
