for new players, it is recommended that you change pawns often, every few levels at least, because if you recruit them and keep them in your party they remain stagnant but if you favorite them and recruit them again later they will have any levels, vocations ranks, skill changes, equipment changes, and so on that their arisen gave them between when you last recruited them and when you recruit them again. 10:47 he's incorrect, you can see the bar on the downed pawn with ten smaller sections. it's basically just a better visual representation of the system in the first game. those will decay with time as a pawn remains down and when they are revived their health will restore in direct proportion to the remaining bars each representing 10% hp increments. if those sections of the bar all disappear, a downed pawn will be sent back to the rift. if it's your main pawn you will instantly get them back, the next time you touch a rift stone, but other pawns will have to be replaced or summoned again if you can find them or simply summon better ones or ones with similar vocations/skills if that's what you are after. it's one of the reasons marking pawns in your favorites is useful so you can always get them back. it looks like the likes are for showing the pawn's popularity amongst arisen that have used them and the hearts is the old favorites system.
I liked the star rating system in the first game, it helped you know what to improve on. For example my pawn got a 5 star visual rating from someone but only 3 star for battle efficiency, that told me I needed to adjust my pawns inclinations to something that works better for mage.
you can change their class, vocation as the game calls it, at any time just like your character @@JojosBizzareAdventure. the only restriction is that only the player can use hybrid vocations, ones that have 2 colors. if you want to min max, keeping them the same vocation may give them more specialized stat growth but no need worry too much about that. another key feature to consider is as the pawns watch you they will learn how you fight specific enemies so if they switch to your vocation they will favor the same moves you do in those fights. using that to your advantage to train them in the class you want them to use can help or have a friend that uses the vocation of your pawn teach them for you.

I don't go online with games really and I loved the original Dragons Dogma but on the first point, I don't understand why it needs to be one or the other. Surely you could have pawns but just swap one out for an actual person if you wanted. Anyway it's not an issue for me but I just think it's a bit of an odd reason not to

I already pre ordered it, the whole creating your own team that can experience the journey with you from the beginning is very appealing. Also the AI that's being used for the pawns is going to help with the immersion. This game has the potential to be goty for 24 and top 10 games of all time.

In dd1, you can hire your friend's pawn for free even if that pawn is at very high level, hope it will scale in terms of stats, for example 10 levels max above your level. As to how the stats is computed, ill leave it to the devs

I highly doubt this but I would really love it if we could make our own 3 main pawns instead of just 1 and renting 2 others that other players created. I really like the idea of actually being able to create and customise my own adventuring party and have it personalised to my own play style and pick the party composition I think works best for me and that also included being able to change the pawns inclination on the fly through a simple menu or just being able to ask the pawn through dialogue. I found the chair of wisdom in DDDA very annoying because I had to sit in the chair 12 different times just to wait for the pawn to ask the right questions. So I really really hope at some point they allow us to make 3 main pawns that level up with us like the Main pawn we create down and allow us to swap their inclination/behaviour quickly without elixirs.. The pawns understand speech so why can't we just ask them to behave a certain way and I also don't like having to reply in other player created pawns spending hours looking for the right inclination, appearance, voice and other things... I want to be able to just create 3 party members and get on with the game instead of renting hundreds of pawns over and over again

5:45 i wonder what this means for healing springs if there are any, spring water was pretty potent as an AoE heal early game but fell off due to the low/flat rate of hp gained for carrying them. Chirurgeon looks really nice if we can't customize hotkey items for the d-pad up and down since it's kinda vague on what items we can use it for, hopefully it's any healing/stamina item
Healing springs should be useful at any part of the game. But how? It's really simple, really- by making healing items NOT repair the player's damaged health bar. Players and pawns should only be able to replenish the maximum HP by sleeping at inns, camping and of course- spring water; hell a higher tier anodyne spell should also repair your max HP, this way, the spell won't be useless after you get a tier 2 vocation.
@@navi8801 yep, 1st tier vocations- even though they fall off mid to late game- should have at least a few viable exclusive spells that's good even in late-game dungeons. They may be situational but at least they are no longer completely unneeded unlike in DD1
Hey just fyi that in the itsuno interview at 1:32 they showed the pawn menu and they showed all the vocations that the pawns can be. and there were 4 empty slots so looks like at the very least we’ve got 4 more vocations on the way. Obviously not including the hybrids so I’d say we have 5 more on the way to be safe but looks like your opinion on there being 18 wasn’t to far fetched. Also it’s pretty obvious those spots are there for a reason I doubt they’d make positions for no reason that’s just illogical.
The empty slots don't seem to indicate a hard and fast vocation limit. If you compare it to the slots with the skill and augments off to the right of it, seems like it's more of a placeholder that you'll be able to scroll through. Side note, idk how people seriously think there will only be 9 vocations. Makes no sense to me.

Pawns are supposed to be as close to an approximation of multiplayer as possible... but no multiplayer? Wtf? Even assuming those throwaway problems were an issue, why not just add multiplayer as an option if it's the exact design intention to have it? There's no justification for this.
Can you beat/play the game without any pawns at all? And would it ruin the experience if I do? I get kinda confused when there’s a lot of stuff happening on screen so I always prefer playing alone without friendly ai or companions in games
It'll probably be a really rough start but I'm sure it's possible at a certain point with some grinding just like in the first game. Warfarer seems like the perfect solo vocation since you can cover all your basics, though I'd still recommend playing with at least your main pawn so they can help you get out of enemy grabs/stuns/sleeps

Playing around elemental resistances/weaknesses was a big part of the first game. I'm making my main pawn a mage so I can customize their skills whenever I want instead of having to worry about looking for pawns with specific skill loadouts only to replace them over and over again
Your pawn can get to a point where it makes so much money that you can't help but feel like a pimp.

They act as AI players in a party. They can do things independently, but will also follow your commands

Probably 18. There's a good balance of basic to advanced to hybrid vocations there. Definitely more than 9, though.

In DD a pawn that belongs to someone on your friend list is free regardless of level. Do you know if this will continue to be true in DD2?

I've started to do the same thing on DDDA and it's so fun I was surprised how well you can do solo runs.
